Leviticus 9

From PreparingYou

The Book of Leviticus is about those "He called" to become the Church in the wilderness and their instructions concerning the seeking of the kingdom of God and the way of the righteousness of God for the the exercise of Pure Religion for the people in free assemblies and the priests in a network of Levites. The Called out of Christ would also institute a similar system of Lively Stones of a Living Altar through a daily ministration of fervent charity to provide all care for early Christians who would not eat at the tables of the social welfare system operated through the temples of Rome and the governments of the world because David, Paul, Peter warned that those dainties were a not only the wages of unrighteousness of a Corban that made the word of God to none effect but were also a snare and a trap that was capable of entangling the masses as captives and merchandise through covetous practices again in the bondage of Egypt. They knew that the free bread of those systems of the word were provided by men who called themselves benefactors but exercise authority one over the other.[1]

Leviticus 9 supposedly describes the dramatic beginning of the official priestly ministry of Aaron[2] (as High Priest) and his sons. This occurssuposedly on the eighth day after a seven-day ordination ceremony (detailed in Leviticus 8). The text of the chapter is believed by some to describe the newly consecrated priests performing their first public sacrifices for themselves and for the people of Israel. By the end of the chapter there is a dramatic confirmation of God accepting by sending fire from heaven and revealing His glory.
The invisble ((אֵ֚ת))
Why is the ((אֵ֚ת)) AlefTav which appears many times untranslated in the text? Is it important?
The Sophistry of Eight
1V The term "eighth" is from שְׁמִינִי‎ shemini[3] but appears as הַשְּׁמִינִ֔י (haššəmînî)

The root for eight is:

  • 08080 שָׁמַן‎ shaman[4] meaning to be make fat
  • 08081 שֶׁמֶן‎ shemen[5] sheh’-men annoint, fat, fruitful from 08080 שָׁמַן‎ shaman
  • 08082 שָׁמֵן‎ shamen[6] through the idea of plumpness or rich
  • 08083 שְׁמֹנֶה‎ shëmoneh[7] eight (symbolic completeness)
Eight שְׁמִינִי (shemini) functions as the ordinal “eighth,” pointing to what follows a complete seven-day span. Within Scripture it recurs about twenty-eight times, almost always marking decisive transitions: from consecration to service, from impurity to restoration, from celebration to renewed obedience.
  • Does שְׁמִינִי (shemini)[3] only function as the ordinal number eight?
  • Or is it pointing to what follows if "Aaron and his sons, and the elders of Israel" and their successors continue to repeat the complete direction of what Moses advocated as detailed instructions in the seven-day outline for protection and provisions for society?
Is the Eight day that comes to pass a reference to the time of plenty and riches that will come to pass if you follow this practice of welfare through freewill offering. He warns the priests who play the role of Aaron in the future they must continue with these practices of welfare by charity if they are to avoid the Fatal Sequence that always comes with prosperity and riches.
The reason welfare through charity is essential
The reason for this is you will only remain a free society if you provide for the needy with freewill offerings. "Voluntary Charity and Limited Poor Relief- For most of Christian history and in free societies influenced by it, welfare was not a governmental duty toward individuals as citizens but a personal and ecclesiastical one. Early Christians practiced communal sharing and alms (e.g., Acts 4:34), medieval monasteries and churches provided hospitals, almshouses, and aid as acts of agape (selfless love), and theologians like Thomas Aquinas framed charity as a voluntary virtue tied to personal salvation. Government involvement was minimal or local; rulers might offer sporadic benevolence, but systematic individual entitlements were absent." Welfare history
V6 Moses proclaimed the people need to do "the thing which the LORD commanded" so that "the glory of the LORD shall appear unto you." Provide the sacrifice of the people through freewill offerings. Your sacrifices are generated from an individual sense of duty and responsibility.
  1. Do not seek to manage or manipulate mankind except for moral growth, let your offerings be burnt to you.
In V23 The texts illustrates that the function of Moses and Aaron in the process is to go in and out [8] of the tabernacle of the congregation and they were to bless[9] the people so they see the glory or honor and righteousness of the LORD.
Facts about burning and consuming offerings

In many verses we see offerings are already burn.

  • 10 " he burnt upon the altar",
  • verse 11 "flesh and the hide he burnt with fire without the camp.":
  • v13 "with the pieces thereof, and the head: and he burnt them upon the altar"
  • v14 "inwards and the legs, and burnt them upon the burnt offering on the altar"
  • v17 meat offering, and took an handful thereof, and burnt it upon the altar
  • and in vs 19 and 20 everything and "he burnt the fat upon the altar:"
  • Yet in V24 there is nothing left to burn up since they had "burnt" things on the altar as expressed in the previous verses.

And since God does not eat these item though it said in verse 24 "consumed"[10] since it was all burnt before they went in and out of the tabernacle of the congregation. When God consumes your sacrifice it is more in the sense of Jeremiah 15:16 when people ate or received the word.[11]

Questions
Why in verse 24 does it say "came a fire out from before the LORD, and consumed[10] upon the altar the burnt offering[12]" if those offerings were already burnt in the previous verses?

What does it mean consumed?

  • ותצא אש מלפני יהוה This Hebrew phrase is "And came out fire" not just before the LORD but (millip̄nê (מִלִּפְנֵ֣י)) meaning "out from the presence" of the LORD. This fire that comes "out from the presence of God" is Divine fire. It power of fire that only comes if we draw near God or God draws near to us.
This is what the Corban of Christ through fervent charity and the Corban of Moses through freewill offerings can accomplish that the Corban of the pharisees cannot.
Is this divine fire any different than the fire that comes with the baptism of fire.[13]
Obedience Leads to God’s Presence but what does it mean to obey?

There is a repeated emphasis on being a doer of the word.[14]

Obey “as the LORD commanded.”

The chapter 9 stresses that true worship and God’s blessing come only through careful obedience to His instructions which are hidden in the sophistry of the flesh and pride of men.

Moses had promised the people would see God’s glory if they followed the commands exactly in Spirit and in truth — and it happened. But what were they really doing?
Was Israel an effectual doer[15] at the time of the Corban of the Pharisees and Herod?
There is no ideology intended in the Bible of Church and State as presented here. There was the concept of free and bond. Wise and foolish, faithful and sinner. The Church was part of the kingdom of God which was in the world but not of the world, secular being the Latin for world.
In the kingdom of God the power of the State remains in the hand of the individual. It is the Libera res publica who Tacitus says was impossible and of course it would be impossible except for the "called out" which is appointed to provide a daily ministration, social safety net, a welfare system through what Moses called free will offerings and Jesus called charity. It was called "pure Religion". When the State becomes the benefactors of the people liberty is destroyed.
There is an idea of nature itself as a moral guide may teach us if honestly observed. But this was shaped by key historical and intellectual movements, particularly the Enlightenment. Nature reflected God's ordered creation (e.g., natural law as part of eternal law), yet morality ultimately derived from interpretations of scripture through grace, in other words through revelation of that fire and spirit.

During the Enlightenment, thinkers redefined morality by shifting from religious doctrines to secular, naturalistic foundations. Philosophers like John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau developed theories of natural law derived from a hypothetical "state of nature," where human rights to life, liberty, and property were seen as inherent. Rousseau argued that "everything is good as it comes from the hands of the Author of Nature; but everything degenerates in the hands of man," positioning nature as a moral ideal corrupted by society.

Jean-Jacques Rousseau's Discourse on Inequality, which argues that private property is the source of inequality, and The Social Contract, which outlines the basis for a legitimate political order, are cornerstones in modern political and social thought.

In truth it is not private property that brings Inequality but it is the dependence on political power that is also the result of centralizing power in the hands of government and the degeneration of the masses.

The Lord Accepts Aaron's Offering

1 And it came to pass on the eighth (haš·šə·mî·nî, הַשְּׁמִינִ֔י) day, that Moses called Aaron and his sons, and the elders of Israel;

2 And he said unto Aaron, Take thee a young calf for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering[12], without blemish, and offer them before the LORD.

3 And unto the children of Israel thou shalt speak, saying, Take ye a kid of the goats for a sin offering; and a calf and a lamb, both of the first year, without blemish, for a burnt offering;

4 Also a bullock and a ram for peace offerings, to sacrifice before the LORD; and a meat offering mingled with oil: for to day the LORD will appear unto you.

5 And they brought (אֵ֚ת) that which Moses commanded before the tabernacle of the congregation: and all the congregation drew near and stood before the LORD.

6 And Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD commanded that ye should do: and the glory of the LORD shall appear unto you.

Masses of righteousness

7 And Moses said unto Aaron, Go unto the altar, ((אֵ֚ת)) and offer thy sin offering, and thy burnt offering[12], and make an atonement for thyself, and for the people: and offer ((אֵ֚ת))the offering of the people, and make an atonement for them; as the LORD commanded.

8 Aaron therefore went unto the altar, and slew ((אֵ֚ת)) the calf of the sin offering, which was for himself.

Life in the blood

9 And the sons of Aaron brought ((אֵ֚ת)) the blood[16] unto him: and he dipped his finger in the blood[17], and put it upon the horns of the altar, and poured out the blood at the bottom of the altar:

10 But the fat, and the kidneys[18], and the caul above the liver of the sin offering, [19]; as the LORD commanded[20] ((אֵ֚ת))Moses.

11 And the flesh and the hide he burnt with fire without the camp.

12 And he slew ((אֵ֚ת)) the burnt offering; and Aaron's sons presented unto him the blood, which he sprinkled round about upon the altar.

Altars of life

13 And they presented the burnt offering[12] unto him, with the pieces thereof, and the head: and he burnt them upon the altar.

14 And he did wash ((אֵ֚ת)) the inwards and the legs, and burnt them upon the burnt offering on the altar.

15 And he brought ((אֵ֚ת)) the people's offering, and took ((אֵ֚ת)) the goat, which was the sin offering for the people, and slew it, and offered it for sin, as the first.

Voluntary sacrifice

16 And he brought ((אֵ֚ת)) the burnt offering, and offered it according to the manner(כַּמִּשְׁפָּֽט׃ 04941).[21]

17 And he brought ((אֵ֚ת)) the meat offering, and took an handful thereof, and burnt it upon the altar, beside the burnt sacrifice of the morning(to seek, הַבֹּֽקֶר׃ 01242).[22]

Sacrifice of self

18 He slew ((אֵ֚ת)) also the bullock and the ram for a sacrifice of peace offerings, which was for the people: and Aaron's sons presented unto him the blood, which he sprinkled upon the altar round about,

19 And the fat of the bullock[23] and of the ram[24], the rump[25], and that which covereth the inwards, and the kidneys[18], and the caul above the liver[26]:

20 And they put ((אֵ֚ת)) the fat upon the breasts, and he burnt the fat upon the altar:

21 And the breasts and the right shoulder Aaron waved for a wave offering before the LORD; as Moses commanded.

A second burning from the Lord

22 And Aaron lifted up ((אֵ֚ת)) his hand toward the people, and blessed them, and came down from offering of the sin offering, and the burnt offering, and peace offerings.

23 And Moses and Aaron went into the tabernacle of the congregation, and came out, and blessed (barack(וַֽיְבָרֲכ֖וּ)[9] ((אֵ֚ת)) the people: and the glory (kabowd (כְבוֹד־))[27] of the LORD appeared unto all the people.

24 And there came a fire out from before the LORD, and consumed[10] upon the altar the burnt offering[12] and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces.

Matthew 25:11 "Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us." See Foolish virgins and Workers of iniquity.
Luke 6:46 "And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? 47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: 48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. 49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great."
Luke 13:25 "When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:" See Workers of iniquity.
John 3:19 "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God." See Born again.
John 9:31 "Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth."
  15. Effectual doer
    • 1 Corinthians 16:9 "For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and [there are] many adversaries."
    • 2 Corinthians 1:6 "And whether we be afflicted, [it is] for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, [it is] for your consolation and salvation."

    • Proverbs 1:7-19 “‭7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. ‭8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: ‭9 For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck. ‭10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: 12 Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: 13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: 14 Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse: 15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: 16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. 17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. 18 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives. 19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof."
    • Jeremiah 7:6 "[If] ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt: 7 Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever. 8 Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.9 Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;"
    • Jeremiah 26:15 "But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears."

John 15:12 "This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. 13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.”

John 10:11 "I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep... 15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.... 17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again."
John 13:37-38 “‭Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake. ‭38 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.”

1 John 3:16-18 “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. ‭17 But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? ‭18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.”
