Wave offering
The phrase "wave offering" appears 14 times but the word translated wave offering appears 28 times in the biblical text, 26 of which are in the Torah.
We are told that a wave offering was "a sacrificial offering by the ancient Jews that was elevated and swung to and fro and then reserved for the personal use of the priestly families" and became the property of the priests.
Is it about enriching the priesthood and someone in fancy robes waving things in the air in a ritual performance for all to see?
Or is there a practical and functional purpose behind the instructions of Moses?
The heave and wave offerings were about a charitable network of public redistribution of the heave offerings on a national level at the discretion of the high priests. The truth is this waving was a public act where the people could see what the priest did with the heave offering that came up to them through a network of free will giving and national service. The term wave offering is from the word nuwph (נוּף)[1] meaning to move to and fro or "to shed abroad". It had to be publicly done as a matter of record so that secret bribes and influence could be detected in this free form of government of the people, for the people and by the people.
The heave offering תְּרומָה (t’rumah)[2] and wave offering תְּנופָה (t’nuphah)[3] worked together to formed part of the provisions for a nation that made them a peculiar people that if fully understood would demonstrate the uniformity of and agreement between Moses and Jesus the Christ. It would also indict the modern Church and false religion just as Jesus accused the pharisees of His day.[4]
The Levites were taken for the Lord's service as the church in the wilderness, instead of the firstborn in Israel. The Levites did not bring a burnt-offering and sin-offering, but were some how waved by Aaron as an offering themselves. Aaron is said to "wave the Levites before the Lord ... that they may execute the service of the Lord.” [5]
The Levites actually belonged to God. They were part of the property of God like those things dedicated or consecrated to God.[6]
The Levites did "the service of the tabernacle of the congregation"[7] which meant they served the tents of the congregations.
On that day all the Levites were publicly consecrated to God's service of the nation in place of all the firstborn in Israel which belonged to God.[8]
Purpose or Pomp
Is all this describing mere pomp and ceremony or was this about the purposes of God to teach the people who to love one another in a nation where pure religion was about how you take care of a nation of people bound by the social bonds of love?
Exodus 29:27 And thou shalt sanctify the breast[9] of the wave offering[3], and the shoulder[10] of the heave offering[2], which is waved[1], and which is heaved up[11], of the ram of the consecration, [even] of [that] which [is] for Aaron, and of [that] which is for his sons:
The word shoulder 07785 (שׁוּק) here is the same as 07784 (שׁוּק) street, and 07783 (שׁוּק) give abundance.
And the word for breast (חֹזֶה) chazeh[9] is the same word for something that is seen or agreed to (חֹזֶה) chozeh[12]02374 but it is also the same as (חֹזֶה) chazah[13]02372 which is to see and "provide" something in the sense of providing with intelligence.
If Moses had set up a national social safety net made of the lively stones of a living temple then:
- Those wave offerings that came to the priest first were openly held up and redistributed by the priests to other priests where it was thought they would be best needed. At which time they were empowering their fellow priests(also stones) to be able to serve the people through the year through charity which promotes the social bonds of society.
If this was all just superstitious rituals then:
- Those wave offerings were then "a sacrificial offering" by "Jews that was elevated and swung to and fro and then reserved for the personal use of the priestly families." There would be no other purpose for those offerings but to enrich the priests as it became their personal property and they became wealthy and an aloof elitists political class.

Leviticus 7:30 His own hands shall bring the offerings of the LORD made by fire, the fat with the breast, it shall he bring, that the breast may be waved [for] a wave offering <08573> before the LORD.
Leviticus 7:34 For the wave <08573> breast and the heave shoulder have I taken of the children of Israel from off the sacrifices of their peace offerings, and have given them unto Aaron the priest and unto his sons by a statute for ever from among the children of Israel.
