Chazah Chazeh Chozeh

Chazah can mean to see, perceive, look, behold, or prophesy, while chazeh is said to mean breast and chozeh which can mean see or even agreement are all spelled in the Hebrew ChetZayinHey (חֹזֶה).

Chazah

Chazah, (חֹזֶה) a primitive root verb 02372[1] can mean ‎to see and provide with intelligence to prophecy with true sight.

Chazah חָזָה[1] occurs about fifty-one times and spans the spectrum from ordinary looking to extraordinary, God-given revelation. Its uses revolve around three main arenas: contemplative observation, prophetic disclosure, and moral accountability to what is seen.

Mindful worship

Several occurrences describe the act of simply beholding what God has done.

  • Job 36:25 “All mankind has seen it; man beholds it from afar.”
  • Psalms 46:8 “Come, see the works of the LORD, who brings devastation upon the earth.”
  • Psalms 63:2 “So I have seen You in the sanctuary and beheld Your power and glory.”

Here chazah invites thoughtful worship. The heart that gazes upon the pattern of God's creation, natural law and providence, or the charitable worship within the living temple of God and is drawn by its practice of Pure Religion to adoration and obedience.

Prophetic uses

The majority of uses refer to any revelation entrusted to God’s spokesmen.

  • Numbers 24:4 “The oracle of one who hears the words of God, who sees a vision of the Almighty.”
  • Isaiah 1:1 “The vision Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.”
  • Obadiah 1:1 “The vision of Obadiah. This is what the Lord GOD says about Edom.”

Such seeing is not self-generated by religious imagination but authoritative communication by way of the Holy Spirit. In keeping with Proverbs 29:18, “Where there is no vision, the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law,” moral direction flows from genuine revelation within priest or people.

Responsible judgment

We are to seek the kingdom of God at hand and the righteousness of God that comes by the way of His Holy Spirit. Chazah also frames scenes of judgment and righteousness.

Psalms 11:7 “For the LORD is righteous; He loves justice. The upright will see His face.” • Psalms 97:6 “The heavens proclaim His righteousness; all the peoples see His glory.”

To see God in this revealed dimension means vindication for the righteous and exposure for the wicked.

But there are also false prophets may claim to see, but because they sit in darkness their is no true vision.

Lamentations 2:14 “The visions that your prophets saw for you were empty and deceptive.” • Micah 3:6–7 “The seers will be ashamed... for there is no answer from God.”

The verb therefore serves both as an invitation and a test for we should test all things[2]

True sight conforms to the consistent revelation of God’s character and word. There will be many who will say Lord Lord[3] or speak in tongues but are they of God or a false faith that is actually dead to the Holy Spirit.

Chazeh

The term Chazeh is translated breast as a portion of sacrificial animals that was separated, waved before the LORD, and assigned to the priests is the same word Chazah meaning true sight and composed of the same Hebrew letters ChetZayinHey (חֹזֶה) and numbered 02373.

In every occurrence, the word appears in what we are told is a legislative narrative surrounding the consecration of Aaron and his sons and successors as apart of an the ongoing priestly service of the tribe of the Levites. And we are expected to believe that the service in question is to burn up livestock to make God happy because we create a sweet savour when we burn up animals with fire.

In our study of the word Kidneys we saw the same word for kidney[4] is also translated reins of control or “A means or an instrument by which power is exercised. Often used in the plural: the reins of government.”[5].

Are we being told in the text that the Levite priest is taking control of what is now seen as an offering burnt up to the giver and will now distribute the value or fat of it by fire to the needy of society?

The same letters for the word fat (חֶלֶב‎)[6] also mean milk(חֶלֶב‎)[7] and is a metaphor for abundance.

In truth all of the testament of Moses is actually setting up a system of social welfare operating by fervent charity exactly as we see with Jesus with the lively stones of the Church. All societies need some system of social welfare, a social safety net. It is either established by freewill offerings through love, or it is established by men who exercise authority one over the other through contracts, covenants and constitution depending not upon love but force through covetous practices that make men merchandise or human resources.

Take the breast

Exodus 29:26–28 "26 And thou shalt take the breast of the ram of Aaron's consecration, and wave[8] it for a wave offering[9] before the LORD: and it shall be thy part. 27 And thou shalt sanctify the breast of the wave offering[9], and the shoulder of the heave offering[10], which is waved[8], and which is heaved up[11], of the ram of the consecration, [even] of [that] which [is] for Aaron, and of [that] which is for his sons: 28 And it shall be Aaron’s and his sons’ by a statute for ever from the children of Israel: for it [is] an heave offering:[10] and it shall be an heave offering[10] from the children of Israel of the sacrifice of their peace offerings, [even] their heave offering[10] unto the LORD. 29 And the holy garments of Aaron shall be his sons' after him, to be anointed therein, and to be consecrated in them. • Leviticus 7:30–34 formalizes the rule for peace offerings: the breast is to be presented as a wave offering and becomes the perpetual due of the priests, “because it has been lifted up from the Israelites as a contribution to the LORD” (Leviticus 7:34). • Numbers 6:20 extends the practice to the Nazirite’s fellowship offering. • Numbers 18:18 incorporates the same principle into the perpetual priestly provisions.

The Wave Offering

The Breast as Wave offering symbolizes affection, love, and the heart but as a practice that fed a national atmosphere of atonement.

The Right Shoulder as a Heave offering symbolizes strength, action, and service in a government of, for, and by the people that forms the social bonds of a free society through which the national blood flowed.

We are told that "waving the breast before the LORD dramatized that the portion first belonged to Him and only afterward to the priest. The forward-and-back motion symbolized presentation and reception, underscoring divine ownership and priestly stewardship."

But the truth is the stewardship is not waving things in the air but about the responsibility of distributing this surplus evenly and justly before the people with an enlightened heart in the site of God is essential in a free society.

When the government of God is not transparent it will become as corrupt as modern governments that we see today who do not take care of the needy with freewill offerings[12] but through men in government who exercise authority.[13]

Allocation to Priests and Their Families

We are told that Leviticus 10:14–15 charges that the breast “shall be eaten in a clean place—you and your sons and your daughters with you”. Unlike most sacrificial meat, this portion could be shared with daughters, reflecting the breadth of God’s provision for the priestly household. By reserving a choice cut rich in nourishment, the LORD guaranteed the physical sustenance of those whose life work was spiritual service (cf. Numbers 18:21).

Symbolic but Significant

Ancient Near Eastern cultures viewed the breast as the seat of affection and compassion. By granting this portion to His priests, the LORD visibly tied pastoral ministry to His own heart of mercy. The ordination narrative (Leviticus 8–9) highlights the breast directly after anointing with blood and oil, suggesting a progression from atonement to communion.

Christological Fulfillment

Hebrews 7 and Hebrews 10 are said to portray Jesus Christ as the consummate High Priest who both offers and embodies the sacrifice. As followers of Christ we should be doing as Christ did and said for us to do.

The consecrated breast, emblem of divine love and priestly privilege, finds its ultimate reality in the Savior who “loved us and gave Himself up for us” (Ephesians 5:2). And we should love one another with the same fervent charity and not the covetous practices of the world.

Believers, described as “a royal priesthood” (1 Peter 2:9), now partake of the true fellowship that the wave breast anticipated.

Ministry Principles Today

  1. God ordains that those who minister His Word be supported by the free offerings of His people (1 Corinthians 9:13–14).
  2. Provision for ministry families rather than the provisions of Nimrod and Babylon is a biblical and moral concern.
  3. Worship integrates reverent presentation to God with grateful reception from Him; service and sustenance belong together as a completed cycle of life by means and method of the righteousness of God.

Summary

The breast offering embodies the generosity of God in the hearts of the people in s theocratic republic toward His priests by the people, models the intertwining of worship and provision of the people, and anticipates the fullness of communion for the people who follow the doctrine of Jesus and secured by Holy Spirit of Christ.[14]

Chozeh

The word Chozeh, spelled the same חֹזֶה is said to be a God-appointed visionary who receives and communicates divine revelation, whether through dreams, visions, or immediate inspiration. The word appears twenty-one times, spanning royal courts (2 Samuel 24:11), prophetic confrontation (Amos 7:12), liturgical direction (2 Chronicles 29:25), and denunciation of apostasy (Ezekiel 13:16). חֹזֶה is a God-appointed visionary who receives and communicates divine revelation, whether through dreams, visions, or immediate inspiration. Ezekiel 13:12 "Lo, when the wall(haqqîr;הַקִּ֑יר)[15] is fallen, shall it not be said unto you, Where is the daubing wherewith ye have daubed it?" the word for walls[16] is connected to hedges in Psalms 40 "Thou hast broken down all his hedges(גְּדֵרֹתָ֑יו)[16]; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin(מְחִתָּה)[17].” Psalms 89:40

Choshen

The word Choshen is translated breastplate.[18] That breastplate is designed to hold the Urim and Thummim.
