Garments

The warp and weft of our minds may weave a pattern of confusion that weakens the fabric of society. Israel and the Altars of clay and stone of Abraham, Moses and the early Church all formed a network of people who came together in Free Assemblies bound by a doctrine of love instead of authority of one over the other, charity instead of force, forgiveness instead of vengeance. It was an government supported and funded by voluntary contributions which was an uncommon form of government in those days and these.
The early Christian Church was private religion, a welfare system of "Pure Religion". It was not just what people thought about God or a supreme being according to the doctrines of men but it included what you did according to the way. Weaving the Network

Weaving Garments

From the beginning of sin man has attempted to cover his nakedness with garments[1] of fig[2] leafs to animal skins. Like the rituals of robe and breeches of the men who were to provide the services of priests and levites the reference by words have often become unmoored metaphors in the meaningless performance, pomp, and pride of many who choose to sit in darkness.

We see them sewing fig[2] leaves[3] together to remedy their what we have been told is nakedness. Fig is normally TavAlefNun but in the original text we see TavAlefNunHey תְאֵנָ֔ה ṯə-’ê-nāh, which is translated occasion.[4] AlefNunHey is numbered 0579[5] and translated deliver or AlefNunHey as 0578[6] is translated lament but as 05927[7] it is translated up, offer, come, bring, ascend, go, chew, offering, light, increase, burn, depart, put, spring, raised, arose, break, exalted, and 33 other miscellaneous ways.

If this is an allegory the point is they tried to remedy the situation by covering it up and hiding rather than admission, confession and repentance.

Aaron and his successors were to be men of who brought light and liberty to a free nation. They were men who ordered the wood/counsel of unhewn stones of living altars of charity and hope according to the Song of Moses.

The threads of the soul

For though the soul gives a man his worth, the world first beholds the garments[1] in which he walks. Clothing, like language and gesture, becomes a sign, a symbol by which others measure dignity, authority, and belonging.

“Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society.” Mark Twain

Tailored coverings

Unmooring the purpose of the altars, priests and the Levites from their purpose and function in a free society is first the product of vanity which is the absence of the virtue of humility.
A nation of priests and kings is where the people are not slothful in their responsibility to give and forgive in the care of their neighbor through a social safety net of charity and attention to the weightier matters.
: Why are the ministers of a nation considered naked and need the people to sew them "Breeches" and what are the cloths of service described in Exodus 28 and Exodus 29 based on the intent of Moses in the scriptures?

In Exodus we see priest were told to take of the blood. Blood is the seat of the soul and the soul of a man includes his corporeal and incorporeal Hereditaments of his personality. The priest can only recieve what is freely given.

Exodus 29:21 "And thou shalt take (וְלָקַחְתָּ֞)[8](Root verb לָקַח)[9] of the blood(life/right)[10][11] that is upon the altar, and of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it upon Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon the garments of his sons with him: and he shall be hallowed, and his garments, and his sons, and his sons' garments with him." [12]

  • Used approximately twenty-six times in the Old Testament, mishchah denotes the consecrated anointing oil. Every occurrence underscores its exclusivity for divine service, marking people, places, and objects as belonging wholly to the LORD. The Hebrew verb anoint מָשַׁח occurs about sixty-nine times and always involves the deliberate application of oil (or occasionally other substances) to set apart a person, object, or place for sacred service. The act signifies divine choice, empowerment, and sanctification.

Leviticus 6:10-11,“‎‭10 And the priest shall put on his linen garment(מִדּ֣וֹ)[13], and his linen breeches(וּמִֽכְנְסֵי) shall he put upon his flesh, and take up the ashes which the fire hath consumed with the burnt offering on the altar, and he shall put them beside the altar. ‎‭11 And he shall put off his garments[12], and put on other garments[12], and carry forth the ashes without the camp unto a clean[14] place.”

Leviticus 8:2 "Take Aaron (the enlightened) and his sons(children of light) with him, and the garments(הַבְּגָדִ֔ים habbegādîm)[12] and the anointing(הַמִּשְׁחָ֑ה) oil, and a bullock for the sin offering, and two rams, and a basket of unleavened bread;

Why is the Hebrew word בֶּגֶד for garment[12] also the word for treachery?[15]

Psalms 104:1-2 exults, “O LORD my God… You are clothed with splendor and majesty, covering Yourself with light as with a garment,” elevating beged as a metaphor for divine glory. Proverbs links virtuous character to clothing: “Strength and dignity are her clothing” (Proverbs 31:25).

Later, we will see where Malachi indicts husbands who “cover their garments [1] with violence”. (Malachi 2:16)

Simlah

There is another word for garment sometimes which is (שִׂמְלָה‎) simlah[16] which is related to something that gives a covering and can be more symbolic than just cloth.[17]

Simlah שִׂמְלָה denotes an outer garment, mantle, or cloak. It can be worn by men or women alike, it functioned as a means of warmth, modesty, and even social identity.

But more importantly in Scripture it can be symbolic like a covenant mantel of faithfulness, mercy, and redemption, like the full armour of God.<Ref name="armour">“‎‭12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. ‎‭14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.” Romans 13:13-14

</Ref Roughly twenty-nine Old Testament verses employ the word, spanning narrative, law, poetry, and prophecy.

Lady Godiva, what did she really take off and did she put on the wedding garments? Are your wedding garments woven with righteousness and the love of Christ which is the sacrifice of fervent charity or are your garments woven with the warp and weft of the pleasures of unrighteousness and the covetous practices of the world which is idolatry[18]? Also see Matthew 22.

Wedding garments

The Hebrew word for garment which is beged[12] is also the Hebrew word for treachery[15].

"And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: 12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. 13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast [him] into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 14 For many are called, but few [are] chosen." Matthew 22:11 -14

In eastern customes the wedding clothes or garment was often provided by the host but had to be put on by the guest.

Whose garments

What are the garments of God and of treachery against God and His Way?

In Isaiah 64:6... we see, "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away."

Augustine of Hippo said the garment was symbolizing charity but Martin Luther suggested that the garment represented Christ.

But what would that look like to put on Christ?

John Calvin says it is faith and good works because James repeatedly emphasized that faith without works is dead.[19]

"As to the wedding garment, is it faith, or is it a holy life?

This is a useless controversy; for faith cannot be separated from good works, nor do good works proceed from any other source than from faith. Christ intended only to state that the Lord calls us on the express condition of our being renewed by the Spirit ... and that, in order to our remaining permanently in his house, we must put off the old man with his pollutions ... and lead a new life." [20]

Other verses in the Old Testament is related to this one of Matthew.

In Isaiah 64:6 the condition of our garments is the result of the fact that our righteousness is actually iniquity:

"But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. 7 And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities."

Many say they call upon the name of the Lord but they do not make Him Lord because they do not seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness.

When they pray for their daily bread they do not pray to their Father in heaven but to the conscripted fathers of rhe earth. They seek the wages of unrighteousness that are provided through the covetous practices which Paul says is idolatry[18] and therefore iniquity.

The masses may want to deny the truth of this because they have become comfortable with extortion. They are under a Strong delusion because of their blind guides.[21]

But if they were to repent of the covetous ways of the world and come back to the Father's house of faith, hope, and charity He will forgive their iniquity.

Isaiah 64:8  But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay(הַחֹ֙מֶר֙)[22], and thou our potter(יֹצְרֵ֔נוּ)[23]; and we all are the work of thy hand. 9  Be not wroth very sore, O LORD, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech[24] thee, we are all thy people."

Time is passing and it is time to:

"Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean. 2 Shake thyself from the dust; arise, [and] sit down, O Jerusalem: loose thyself(הִֽתְפַּתְּחִי֙)[25] from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion. 3 For thus saith the LORD, Ye have sold yourselves for nought; and ye shall be redeemed[26] without money[27]. 4 For thus saith the Lord GOD, My people went down aforetime into Egypt to sojourn there; and the Assyrian oppressed[28] them without cause[29]. 5 Now therefore, what have I here, saith the LORD, that my people is taken away for nought? they that rule over them make them to howl, saith the LORD; and my name continually every day [is] blasphemed " Isaiah 52

The people needed to wake up and put on the beautiful garments. They needed to loose themselves by living by righteousness and not iniquity because that is the keys of the Kingdom. They were not wearing the righteousness of God because they sold themselves for the wages of unrighteousness through covetous practices and received from those men who call themselves benefactors but who rule over them and have gone back into the bondage of Egypt and followed the way of Assyria. Instead of living by the perfect law of liberty through faith, hope and charity and a daily ministration of pure Religion they lived by the covetous practices of force, fear, and fealty. Many thought they were doing great things in His name saying LORD, LORD but in fact were not doers of the word but rather workers of iniquity blaspheming his name in vanity.

    • Isaiah 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh [himself] with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth [herself] with her jewels.

    • Isaiah 59:17 "For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance [for] clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke."
    • Jude 1:21 "Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. 22 And of some have compassion, making a difference: 23 And others save with fear, pulling [them] out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh."
The warp and weft of Christ weaves a garment of righteousness through faith and mercy but the vanity of man's mind may weave a pattern of confusion that weakens the fabric of society. Free Assemblies bound by a doctrine of love instead of the authority of one over the other allows charity instead of force, forgiveness instead of vengeance. Through love the people may weave a network of righteousness.

The verb laqach (לָקַח) serves as Scripture’s primary verb for “taking” in any sense—physical, relational, covenantal, judicial, or spiritual. Its semantic reach supplies the Hebrew canon with a vocabulary of transfer, highlighting how persons or things move from one sphere of authority to another. This breadth allows the reader to trace a theology of divine and human initiative across redemptive history.

  10. The Hebrew word translated “blood” appears roughly 360 times in the Old Testament and functions as a theological thread that unites narrative, law, poetry, prophecy, and typology. It can denote literal blood coursing through veins, shed blood in violence, or sacrificial blood applied to altar, people, or objects. Each usage reinforces one or more biblical themes of life, covenant, atonement, purity, judgment, and redemption.
    • Blood is inseparably linked to life. “For the life of the flesh is in the blood” (Leviticus 17:11). Shedding blood is therefore tantamount to taking life (Genesis 9:4-6). Scripture treats blood not merely as a biological fluid but as the God-given essence of living beings. To violate blood is to violate life that belongs to God; to protect blood is to honor the Creator’s ownership of life.

These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them. 17 They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye [are] our gods. 18 Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see."
Isaiah 30:20 "And [though] the Lord give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers: 21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This [is] the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. 22 Ye shall defile also the covering of thy graven images of silver, and the ornament of thy molten images of gold: thou shalt cast them away as a menstruous cloth; thou shalt say unto it, Get thee hence. 23 Then shall he give the rain of thy seed,..."
Matthew 13:13 "Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand."
Matthew 15:14 "Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch."
Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recoveing of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
John 9:39 ¶ "And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind."
Luke 6:39 "And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch? 40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master."
Acts 13:11 "And now, behold, the hand of the Lord [is] upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand."
