Heave offering
The phrase heave offering[1] appears only 20 times.
The heave offering תְּרומָה (t’rumah)[1] and wave offering תְּנופָה (t’nuphah)[2] worked together to formed part of the provisions[3] for a nation that made them a peculiar people that if fully understood would demonstrate the uniformity of and agreement between Moses and Jesus the Christ. It would also indict the modern Church and false religion just as Jesus accused the pharisees of His day.[4]
The heave-offering[1] was a portion of the offerings of the people freely given to the purposes of the house of the LORD. It is from the word ruwm (רוּם)[5] which means to raise or give in an upward manner which in the=is case would be passing up toward the highpriest in a network of service.
The heave-offering of all their 'gifts” would move up through this network until the family of the highpriest received it and then had the right to choose to make it a wave-offering.[2]
There may have been a ritual but the truth is this waving was a public act where the people could see what the priest did with the heave offering that came up to them. The term wave offering is from the word nuwph (נוּף)[6] meaning to move to and fro or "to shed abroad".
A heave offering was a separated portion of an ancient Israelite religious offering that was ceremonially raised or passed up in dedication to God and after it was received it was reserved for the officiating priest's use or distribute publicly as they saw fit and righteous.
