AlefTav

The unique אֶת AlefTav[1] is seldom translated but has a meaning not always well understood because of the doctrines of men.

Those two letters אֶ Alef, ת Tav suggests a connection of the faith of man connected with God through God's divine inspiration when man is willing to be still and know.

  • א Alef Father-Son- begin- The Paradox: God and Man - (ox bull) [strength, leader, first] (Numeric value: 1)
  • ת Tav is a Seal of a Higher kingdom or realm through faith. The paradigm keter–malchut “The Crown of Sovereignty” from the Tree of Life spiritually linking worlds or realms through an unseen doorway of faith. The Aleph & Tav are the first and last letters. [door sign cross seal] (Numeric value: 400)

The אֶת AlefTav[1] suggest that the thing or action is modified by presence divine inspiration through the true faith. To do this by way of the divine relationship of man and God requires humility. Forgive others rather than the mere will of man, or the willful man eating from the tree of knowledge.

If it is a true act or perception of and by that granted faith it will bring the spiritual blessing of that faith in God in Spirit and Truth. Anything less would be or bring idolatry[2] and the justified elements of idolatry[3] in the world.

In Amos 5:23:

"Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols. [4] 24 But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream. 25 Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel? 26 But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch[5] and Chiun[6] your images[7], the star[8] of your god, which ye made to yourselves. 27 Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity[9] beyond Damascus[10], saith the LORD, whose name is The God of hosts."

Silent is the sackcloth weaver

In verse 27 the word Damascus is a word that means "silent is the sackcloth weaver" and appears with a Lamed[10] here in Amos 5.

The name Damascus (Dammeseq) in this text appearing as ləḏammāśeq; (לְדַמָּ֑שֶׂק) is said to means "Silent is the sackcloth weaver".

As a metaphor it may signify a divine, cause and effect that may lead to repentance or in hope of turning point, where through the "wrath of God" unbeknown to the blind[11] a rougher or humbling circumstances (hence sackcloth) is produced for individuals or even groups.

Examples could include Jacob in bondage for 20 some years to Laban or the sons of Jacob in bondage of Egypt for 400 years. Or when his sons made him stink in Genesis 34:30 and built an altar after putting away their idols and breaking of their earrings by Shechem, i.e. by consent. Genesis 35:

Or like Saul who lost his kingdom because he foolishly chose to force a sacrifice or offering of the people.

Or Saul knocked off his horse and struck blind on his way to Damascus.

These humbling events often indicates profound, often uncomfortable conditions that may lead to spiritual transformation without overt signs until the moment it arrives. It speaks to God's silent work in weaving life's difficult threads of warp and weft (mourning and discipline; neglect and sacrifice; prayer and fasting) into a greater, unseen purpose.

While the word "you" which is an accusation written as AlefTav appears as AlefTavKafMem eṯ·ḵem[1]’ אֶתְכֶ֖ם suggesting that 'you 'go beyond the AlefTav אֶת of inspirational faith because the "silent sackcloth weaver" continuing to conform or transgress.

In verse 27 The term "beyond"[12] suggest that you have flowed beyond the relationship of God and man (Alef) to the relationship with the creation of your own hands (Lamed), beyond the humble place of repentance that comes with the sackcloth of humble repentance.

So, captivity, like the bondage of Egypt or the yoke of bondage of Galatian 5[13] is not merely the wrath of God but the gift of God in hope that you might be saved through repentance.

The captivity of Pauperism

In his Memoir on Pauperism Alexis de Tocqueville attacks the British system of legal charity on a permanent basis” as a method of impoverishment that not only increased the “indigent population” but “their laziness along with their needs and their idleness"[14] with their vices.” He, like Polybius, understood that:

"[I]ndividual alms-giving established valuable ties between the rich and the poor. The deed itself involves the giver in the fate of the one whose poverty he has undertaken to alleviate. The latter, supported by aid which he had no right to demand and which he had no hope to getting, feels inspired by gratitude. A moral tie is established between those two classes whose interests and passions so often conspire to separate them from each other, and although divided by circumstance they are willingly reconciled. This is not the case with legal charity."

Legal charity abolishes the brotherly covenant of Amos 1.
