| There is a great deal of speculation as to the time frame of these events but there seem little understanding of the significants of the altar built by Jacob and less of Genesis 33:18 “And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem". Shalem was no more a city "in the land of Canaan" than Melchisedec was the king of Salem. |
| If we suppose Dinah to have been born in the same year with Joseph, who was in his seventeenth year at the time of his being sold as a bondslave Genesis 37:2, the events of this chapter must have occurred in the interval between the completion of her twelfth and that of her sixteenth year. |
| "Shekem" existed before the time of Abraham because consent existed.[5]They were Hivite as called in the text as descendant of Kenaan at a former period Genesis 12:6. |
| We know the suitor of Diana "Spake to the heart of the damsel" We are led to believe he robbed her of her honor first but then promised to recognize her as his wife, provided he can gain the consent of her relatives. "Shekem spake unto his father Hamor." Hamor would express a willingness to follow the ways of Jacob which were the ways of Melchizedek and Abraham.[6] |
| Two Ways |
|
“Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand." Matthew 12:25 |
|
"Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division." Luke 12:51 |
| There was the Smoking furnace and a burning lamp of the vision of Abraham. |
| Genesis is the story of two ways to forms a government. The way of Nimrod of Babylon, Abimelech, King Bera of Sodom, and Pharaoh of Egypt requires consent. These were all to become cities of blood which were cauldrons and flesh pots where the masses bite one another as men do when reduced to human resources by their appetite for benefits. |
|
"but both when he came from Padanaram; and pitched his tent before the city.” Is that not what Abraham did? |
| What to see? |
| V1 "to see the daughters" bib·nō·wt בִּבְנ֥וֹת which is used here and in Judges 14:3 concerning the woman or daughter of the uncircumcised Philistines who was desired by Samson. It could be suggested that the true meaning was that it was the circumcision of the heart that was lacking. |
| The way of righteousness requiers an circumsized heart. That was critical to be Israel. And the son of Jacob were vain, not being Israel. This vanity kept them from understanding. |
|
This HEB: וַיִּשְׁכַּ֥ב אֹתָ֖הּ וַיְעַנֶּֽהָ׃ is also scene in 2 Samuel 13:14 "Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced (וַיְעַנֶּ֔הָ) [7] by 'verse 17name' her, and lay with her." |
| Dogma blasphemes the LORD |
| V13 in Genesis 27:35 uses the word subtilty to describe Jacob's obtaining a blessing Isaac who thought Esau should have that blessing. The same Hebrew word in the same form is used here for the second time in the Bible and translated deceitfully(bemirmāh בְּמִרְמָ֖ה). This particular word is only found in Jeremiah 9:6 'Thine habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the LORD." They justified this deceit with "because he had defiled Dinah their sister:" They are unforgiving and because of their self-righteousness dogma and are literally cutting themselves off from the LORD. |
| V30 And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled(‘ă·kar·tem עֲכַרְתֶּ֣ם ) me to make me to stink la·hab·’î·šê·nî לְהַבְאִישֵׁ֙נִי֙ LamedHeyBeitAlefYodShinNunYod ⁿ making me repugnant") among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and I being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me, and slay[8] me; and I shall be destroyed[9]“, I and my house. |

Dinah and the daughters
1 And Dinah the daughter of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.
Shechem
2 And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he took her, and lay with her, and defiled (וַיְעַנֶּֽהָ)[10] her.
3 And his soul clave unto Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the damsel, and spake kindly unto the damsel.
4 And Shechem spake unto his father Hamor, saying, Get me this damsel to wife.
5 And Jacob heard that he had defiled (טִמֵּא֙) Dinah his daughter: now his sons were with his cattle in the field: and Jacob held his peace until they were come.
Hamor requests
6 And Hamor the father of Shechem went out unto Jacob to commune with him.
7 And the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it: and the men were grieved, and they were very wroth, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob's daughter; which thing ought not to be done.
8 And Hamor communed with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem longeth for your daughter: I pray you give her him to wife.
9 And make ye marriages with us, and give your daughters unto us, and take our daughters unto you.
Dwell with us
10 And ye shall dwell with us: and the land shall be before you; dwell and trade ye therein, and get you possessions therein.
11 And Shechem said unto her father and unto her brethren, Let me find grace in your eyes, and what ye shall say unto me I will give.
12 Ask me never so much dowry and gift, and I will give according as ye shall say unto me: but give me the damsel to wife.
Sons of Jacob Answer
13 And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully (bemirmāh בְּמִרְמָ֖ה), and said, because he had defiled Dinah their sister:
14 And they said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us:
15 But in this will we consent unto you: If ye will be as we be, that every male of you be circumcised;
16 Then will we give our daughters unto you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.
17 But if ye will not hearken unto us, to be circumcised; then will we take our daughter, and we will be gone.
The words pleased
18 And their words pleased Hamor, and Shechem Hamor's son.
19 And the young man deferred not to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacob's daughter: and he was more honourable than all the house of his father.
Communed with the men of the city
20 And Hamor and Shechem his son came unto the gate of their city, and communed with the men of their city, saying,
Men of peace
21 These men are peaceable with us; therefore let them dwell in the land, and trade therein; for the land, behold, it is large enough for them; let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters.
22 Only herein will the men consent unto us for to dwell with us, to be one people, if every male among us be circumcised, as they are circumcised.
23 Shall not their cattle and their substance and every beast of theirs be ours? only let us consent unto them, and they will dwell with us.
All who went out the gate
24 And unto Hamor and unto Shechem his son hearkened all that went out of the gate of his city; and every male was circumcised, all that went out of the gate of his city.
Boldly slew the men
25 And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city boldly, and slew all the males.
26 And they slew Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem's house, and went out.
Sons spoiled the city
27 The sons of Jacob came upon the slain, and spoiled the city, because they had defiled their sister.
28 They took their sheep, and their oxen, and their asses, and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field,
29 And all their wealth, and all their little ones, and their wives took they captive, and spoiled even all that was in the house.
Jacob stinks
30 And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled (‘ă·kar·tem עֲכַרְתֶּ֣ם ) me to make me to stink la·hab·’î·šê·nî לְהַבְאִישֵׁ֙נִי֙ by making me repugnant") among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and I being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me, and slay[8] me; and I shall be destroyed[9]“, I and my house.
31 And they said, Should he deal with our sister as with an harlot?

- ↑ Fathers of the earth
- Matthew 23:9 "And call no [man] your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven."
- Matthew 6:8 "Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as [it is] in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."
- Matthew 7:21 "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven."
- Matthew 12:50 "For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother."
- Luke 3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to [our] father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
- Luke 11:2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
- John 4:12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?" See Beersheba.
- John 8:39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

- 1 John 3:1 ¶ "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not."
- The Fathers of the earth assume the natural role of the father of the family. Like the Conscripti Patri or the Patronus of Rome who become the benefactors of the masses offering them benefits and dainties from their civil tables of social welfare which are not only a snare, but destroy liberty, making the people merchandise. The Church established by Jesus would seek to have a daily ministration of Pure Religion through fervent charity.

- Genesis 14:18 "And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God."
- Psalms 110:4 "The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek."

- Hebrews 6:20 "Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec."
- Hebrews 7:1 "For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; 2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;... 10 For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him. 11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need [was there] that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?... 15 And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest, 16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life. 17 For he testifieth, Thou [art] a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec... 21 (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou [art] a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)"
