Genesis 20
Abram had had learned to walk in faith and not eat the dainties of the city states. He was not of the way of Sodom nor Nimrod's Babylon and his altars formed the social bonds of liberty. Abraham formed a free "Polis" through a network of Altars funded by freewill sacrifice that strengthen the bands of a free society like Moses through the practice of pure Religion? |

Abraham had been commanded to traverse the whole land (Genesis 13:17-18V "V1 And Abraham sought to dwell between Kadesh[1] and Shur[2], and sojourned in Gerar."[3] We saw in Genesis 14 Verse 7 that Enmishpat (עֵ֤ין ‘ên מִשְׁפָּט֙ mispat)[4], which is Kadesh [5],means a fountain of justice.
-"[6]
What did it mean to dwell (וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב)[7] between[8] Kadesh Holiness [1] and Shur[2], and sojourned in Gerar.[9] The word Gerar in the text is בִּגְרָֽר which includes a Beit at the beginning of the Gimel double Reish which expresses the cause and effect of living within spirit and truth. Beit means "God's Dwelling Place Below - a house or God's house here" and the verse is about where he dwelled.
Gerar[9] is not geographically “between Kadesh and Shur” but the dwelling in the righteousness of God and not the ways of the world.
Shur's[2] counter word in Greek is eremos as seen in Luke 4:1 "And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness (eremos)," can mean a place where spiritual revelation is often found while in a state of separation. The term is related to strength, progress, protection, or destruction where there can also be spiritual clarification.
Dwell between Kadesh[1] means holy and holy means separate from something while consecrated to something else. Composed of ק Kuf a "Redemption of Fallen Spark" in a union power (Reish) of the devine and separatness from that which falls short (Zayin) by way (ד Dalet) Charity opening a door or pathway to that (ש Shin) Spiritual Revelation that comes with the pursuit of righteousness, which is the Divine Essence.
3 Abimelech, a king of the Philistines, received a dream from God, warning him, concerning the danger of adultery which he knew was not righteous by some moral standard.
4 He speaks of a righteous nation and is king of the Philistines.
in V6 God takes the credit for keeping Abimelech from the act and is told that Abraham is a prophet and must restore her or die along with everyone who is his.
V8-V10 Abimeleck wastes no time but scholds Abraham
V11-V13 Worrying about the fact that others do not fear God is failing to respect the power of God but the person you fear. Fearing a person is the same as being a respecter of persons and the same as being a dis-respecter of persons.
Gerar is the place between being a respecter of persons or even a dis-respecter of persons and being righteous kings of peace.
Abimelech , king of the Philistines, gave Abraham gifts.
V17 The journey and confessions of Abraham and the blessing of the way of Melchizedek gave power to the prayers of Abraham.

Abraham journeyed
1 And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled(וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב)[7] between Kadesh[1] and Shur[2], and sojourned in Gerar.[3]
2 And Abraham said of Sarah [10] his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech [11] king of Gerar [12] sent, and took Sarah.
Abimelech dreamed
3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife.
4 But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?
5 Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.
6 And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
7 Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.
He repents
8 Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.
9 Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.
10 And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?
Feared the place
11 And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake.
12 And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
13 And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness[13] which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.
The recompense of Abimelech
14 And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.
15 And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.
16 And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, he is to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reproved.
Blessed by a prayer
17 So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.
18 For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham's wife.

- יָשַׁב Yasab more than a thousand times across every major section of the Old Testament. Moses repeatedly used the verb to describe the goal of the exodus: “that you may live long in the land” (Deuteronomy 5:33). It frames the conquest narratives—“no one will be able to stand against you in the land where you live” (Deuteronomy 11:25). To dwell at Gerar between Kadesh and Shur in the tent of Shem. In summary, the Old Testament’s pervasive use of this verb binds together space, authority, rest, and relationship, tracing a redemptive arc from Eden’s loss to the New Jerusalem’s glory.
