Judgment

We can see in Exodus 21 that the hearts and minds of the people were becoming the fundamental interpreters of the law with a right of appeal to a network of men who did not go up by steps but were ranked by system of charitable service to the people.

This was a major change to what had been seen and experienced during the rise of the earlier Hammurabi codification of law.

Moses was setting the captive free by replacing the human king with Yahweh as lawgiver. But that lawgiver would need to write upon the heart and mind of people who would be the jurists of a free society, who were no longer becoming accustomed to living at the expense of their neighbor nor instituting the cities of blood operating by force and violence through covetous practices.

Moses had set up the people's courts in Exodus 18 because he could not hear every dispute himself and it was right that the people were going to have to take back their responsibility for tending to the weightier matters of law if they were going to learn the the way of the kingdom of God and the righteousness of God, which is virtue[1].

Exodus 18:22 makes it clear "And let them judge[2] the people".

Statuets and ordinances

The responsibility of tending to the weightier matters would be a hot issue with Jesus. To understand what that means people may need to have a better understanding of words like "judgement", "statutes", "ordinances", and even "law".

Nullification

From the movie 12 Angry Men. Those men were "ruling judges" in a court of law for at least the "facts" but early juries in America and England decided "fact and law" it what was called Jury nullification.

What these words actually mean in the context of the cities of refuge were and what being on a Jury in America use to mean especially concerning the power of jury Nullification, which is the power of the people to decide fact and law.

Precedents

Moses wrote these "judgement", "statutes", and"ordinances" to form the "precedents" needed to guide the hearts and minds of the people who take back their moral resposibilities to attend to the weightier matters.

Spellings

The word Judgment's spelling varies based on whether you are writing in the UK or US English. In US English, “judgment”, with no “e”, is the only correct spelling. In the UK the English, “judgement”, with an “e”, is standard, but the term “judgment” is used in legal contexts. Since much of American law originates in England and the King James Bible is used extensively in many countries the terms are virtually interchangeable.

The word Judgement[3] appears in the biblical text over 400 times and at least least eighty times in the Torah.

The true children of Abraham are the people who walk in the way of the faith of Abraham and not in the ways of force, fear, and fealty which we see in the bondage of Egypt, the Babylon of Nimrod, Caesar's Rome, nor the covetous practices of FDR's Great Society which has become cities of blood.
