The virtue of temperance[1] is often neglected in a list of virtues[2] but it is inclusive of self-control and restraint. The sacrifice often required to manifest temperance without fault will enhance Friendliness, secure Justice, and press Truthfulness.

It will often require an element of sacrifice and charity[3] to strengthen and encourage other virtues. It is also associated with abstinence from something desired like moderation in drinking alcoholic beverages, food and other sources of pleasure of indulgence.

The moderation can become habitual in regard to the indulgence of the natural appetites and passions; restrained or moderated indulgence.
