In James chapter 4 we find the same word translated buy and sell. <Ref>James 4:11 "Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of [his] brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.  There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?  Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell<nowiki>[emporeuomai]</nowiki>, and get gain:  Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. In [[Proverbs 1]] we are told to [[Consent not|consent not]] in relationship to making gain at the expense of others. That [[consent]] makes the people have [[One purse|one purse]].  What they are really talking about is a system of [[Welfare]] where everyone pools their wealth under someone who can exercise authority, e.g. force their contributions. These systems, like the [[Corban]] of the Pharisees, are a snare and they make the word of God to none effect.

We should take care of the real needs of our neighbors but in a way that gives life through a liberty of individual choice and does not weaken the poor nor strengthen the beast in us all and kills the soul.

The people in Egypt belonged to the Pharaoh. They were Employed in a State bondage system called Corvee. It is not bankers and politicians that make the citizens a surety[1] for debt but the covetous practice of desiring benefits from men who call themselves benefactors but exercise authority one over the other at the expense of your neighbor. It is our own covetousness for those benefits that have made us merchandise.
Denying that we are snared and entangled in the elements of the world nor by being unfaithful in the unrighteous mammon will not set us free from that bondage of Egypt we find ourselves in again.
We must Repent and seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness by doing what Jesus commanded, providing a daily ministration through pure Religion like the early Church.

Merchandise

"The history of the birth of freedom... Are men to be ruled by God's law, or the whims of dictator..? Are men property of the state? Or are they free souls under God? This same battle continues throughout the world today. " -Cecil B. DeMille (Producer/Director), The 1956 movie “The Ten Commandments” .

The people were human resources and the property of the Pharaoh when they were in the Bondage of Egypt when Moses came to set the captive free.

Why did Peter warn the people that they could be made merchandise again?

Do you own your own body?

Do you own the right to your labor?

Have you become a human resource, a possession, a surety for debt?

Peter predicted that we would become "merchandise" and told us why.

  • "And through Covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not." 2 Peter 2:3 [2]

Why does this covetousness make us merchandise?

We also know that in 2 Peter 2:14 we are told "Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:"

How do we curse our children with covetous practices?

The answer is that we make them a surety for debt.

While we find the word Merchandise in the Bible numerous times. You become merchandise for a number of reasons. Spiritually you become a tradable thing[3] is because you gave your power of choice given to you by God to a ruler who exercise authority, not love, over your neighbor.

the Greek word translated merchandise in Peter's second epistle only appears in one other verse of the Bible, but that Greek word is translated only once as merchandise.

It is from ~ἐμπορεύομαι~ emporeuomai [4] from two words en meaning "in, by, with" and poreuomai meaning "to lead over, carry over, transfer"; v

  • 1) to go a trading, to travel for business, to traffic, trade
  • 2) of a thing, to import for sale
  • 3) to deal in
  • 4) to use a person or a thing for gain

The word Canaan in the Bible is from the Hebrew word Kanaan[5] It could mean merchants, but also merchant of men.

Cities of bondage

In James chapter 4, we find the same word emporeuomai is translated buy and sell in relationship to gain. [6]

In Proverbs 1 we are told to consent not in relationship to making gain at the expense of others. That consent makes the people have one purse. What they are really talking about is a system of Welfare where everyone pools their wealth under someone who can exercise authority, e.g. force their contributions. These systems, like the Corban of the Pharisees, are a snare and they make the word of God to none effect.

In Ezekiel it talks about building a civil structure where the people become the flesh in the caldron of that legal institution.[7]

These cities of blood as they are called in the bible included legal systems of welfare that used the power of the State to create a social safety net that Moses and Jesus led the people from. Paul and David said those tables were a snare and a trap which is why Proverbs tells us to put a knife to our throat if we have an appetite for their dainties and that is why we should consent not to their common Purse.

And as we see in Micah, the people eat the flesh of one another by such civil structures we see mentioned in Ezekiel.[8]

The same idea is mentioned in Galatians 5:15 as a warning that we do not do that in any way.[9]

Is the World inhabited by Zombies that take a bite out of one another through socialist schemes and Welfare?

Matthew 22:32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

People of the world have become very selfish. They believe that they can covet their neighbor's goods and go about and take from others so that they will have what they want.

  • Luke 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
  • Deuteronomy 24:6 No man shall take the nether or the upper millstone to pledge: for he taketh a man’s life to pledge.
  • Proverbs 1:19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

The Sacrifice of fools

This welfare is foolishness in our thinking;[10] this way of thinking does not give life, but it deadens our hearts to the compassion needed in a free society. To set up systems that give men the power to take from our neighbors for our benefit is dead works and the work of the dead.

  • Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Every man has a right to their labor for just compensation, and no one should take that away without his or her consent. We should not take from others, but we should let them choose freewill giving. As we take what is not rightfully ours, we will be taken from by others until we cry out, and no one hears us if we do not repent.

Some will say they have not consented, but they have assented.

  • It is immaterial whether a man gives his assent by words or by acts and deeds. 10 Co. 52.
Non refert an quis assensum suum praefert verbis, an rebus ipsis et factis.
  • He who does not forbid what he can forbid, seems to assent. 2 Inst. 305.
Qui non prohibit quod prohibere potest assentire videtur.
  • No one is obliged to accept a benefit against his consent. Dig. 50, 17, 69. But if he does not dissent he will be considered as assenting. Vide Assent.
Invito beneficium non datur

  • Ecclesiastes 5:18 Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion.

We should take care of the real needs of our neighbors in a daily ministration of pure Religion through fervent charity, but we should do so in a way that gives life through the perfect law of liberty of individual choice, and in a way which does not weaken the poor nor strengthen the beast in us all. The beast in us marks our mind with a thinking from which we should repent. It will degenerate the soul. But the unselfish sacrifice feeds the soul.

  • Luke 20:38 "For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him."

This was the message of all the prophets unto Jesus and the early Church. The message of sharing our life with others through a network of living souls caring for one another is a system grandfathered in by the blood of Jesus Christ.

Is becoming a human resource the same as becoming merchandise?

Are we being told that we would become a mere commodity or property to be bought and sold through our own covetousness?

How does covetousness make us merchandise?

  • Psalms 69:22 "Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap."
“The real destroyers of the liberties of the people is he who spreads among them bounties, donations and benefits.” Plutarch

Or how about Polybius who said almost 200 years before Christ:

"The masses continue with an appetite for benefits and the habit of receiving them by way of a rule of force and violence. The people, having grown accustomed to feed at the expense of others and to depend for their livelihood on the property of others... institute the rule of violence; [11] and now uniting their forces massacre, banish, and plunder,[12] until they degenerate again into perfect savages and find once more a master and monarch." [13] [14]

Polybius saw the downfall of the republic by way of their free bread and welfare a 150 years before the first Emperor of Rome and 175 years before the birth of John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ who opposed these same systems of free bread at your neighbor's expense.
The authoritarian State often uses force and violence to become the Benefactors of the people if the covet what is their neighbors'. They make a social contract where one class of citizen is forced to provide for another class through "legal charity" which is not true charity. The writings of the Apostles warned along with countless passages of ancient writings of the prophets including Proverbs 23 which warned them about what Christ forbid which was the covetous practices of socialist forms of government.

Is Proverbs 23:1 [15] telling us not to take benefits from men who can exercise authority one over the other?

If it is, then that explains why Jesus said "And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. But ye shall not be so:" Luke 22:25

What it does not explain is why Churches say that is okay now.

Could they be teaching us a damnable heresy?

When Proverbs 1 talks about "one purse"[16] were they talking about socialism where everyone puts their hand in everyone else's purse through the exercising authority of men who call themselves benefactors but are just taking from your neighbor to satisfy your own desires, wantonness.

Isn't desiring those benefits a form of covetousness?

Is the right to collect those benefits the result of a contract where you are also a surety for the debt of the provider?

Proverbs 22:26 “Be not thou [one] of them that strike hands, [or] of them that are sureties for debts.”
Romans 13:8 “Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.”

If we go back to 2 Peter Chapter 2, it sounds like people can lose their liberty and become collateral for debt simply by applying for benefits from a system of forced contributions.

Have the people been conquered through covetous means?

Is that not the error of Balaam and the Nicolaitan God hates?

The Corban of the Pharisees did this in the time of Christ, making the word of God to none effect and the Modern Corban of the World has done it today.

We need to answer a few questions:

Some Questions

More Questions

To find the answers, we must seek and strive to do what Jesus said the way He said to do it... Including attending to the Weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith which include caring for the needs of our neighbors and the widows and orphans of our society through Pure Religion in matters of health, education, and welfare. We are NOT to provide for the needy of society through the Covetous Practices and the men who call themselves benefactors but who exercise authority one over the other like the socialists do.

The Way of Christ was like neither the way of the world of Rome nor the governments of the gentiles who depend on those fathers of the earth through force, fear and fealty who deliver the people back in bondage again like they were in Egypt. Christ's ministers and true Christians do not depend upon systems of social welfare that force the contributions of the people like the corban of the Pharisees which made the word of God to none effect. Many people have been deceived to go the way of Balaam and the Nicolaitan and out of The Way of Christ and have become workers of iniquity.

The Christian conflict with Rome in the first century Church appointed by Christ was because they would not apply to the fathers of the earth for their free bread but instead relied upon a voluntary network providing a daily ministration to the needy of society through Faith, Hope, and Charity by way of freewill offerings of the people, for the people, and by the people through the perfect law of liberty in Free Assemblies according to the ancient pattern of Tuns or Tens as He commanded.

The modern Christians are in need of repentance.

To Enslave a Nation
How do you enslave a whole nation, even the whole world?

  2. 2 Peter 2:1 "But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;"

  13. "But when a new generation arises and the democracy falls into the hands of the grandchildren of its founders, they have become so accustomed to freedom and equality that they no longer value them, and begin to aim at pre-eminence; and it is chiefly those of ample fortune who fall into this error. 6 So when they begin to lust for power and cannot attain it through themselves or their own good qualities, they ruin their estates, tempting and corrupting the people in every possible way. 7 And hence when by their foolish thirst for reputation they have created among the masses an appetite for gifts and the habit of receiving them, democracy in its turn is abolished and changes into a rule of force and violence. 8 For the people, having grown accustomed to feed at the expense of others and to depend for their livelihood on the property of others, as soon as they find a leader who is enterprising but is excluded from the houses of office by his penury, institute the rule of violence; 9 and now uniting their forces massacre, banish, and plunder, until they degenerate again into perfect savages and find once more a master and monarch." Polybius: The Histories (composed at Rome around 130 BC)Fragments of Book at Loeb's classic library, or see our comparison of translations at Polybius#Translations_compare
  14. An alternate translation in context, "9. For no sooner had the knowledge of the jealousy and hatred existing in the citizens against them which is replaced by democracy, emboldened some one to oppose the government by word or deed, than he was sure to find the whole people ready and prepared to take his side. Having then got rid of these rulers by assassination or exile, they do not venture to set up a king again, being still in terror of the injustice to which this led before; nor dare they intrust the common interests again to more than one, considering the recent example of their misconduct: and therefore, as the only sound hope left them is that which depends upon themselves, they are driven to take refuge in that; and so changed the constitution from an oligarchy to a democracy, and took upon themselves the superintendence and charge of the state. And as long as any survive who have had experience of oligarchical supremacy and domination, they regard their present constitution as a blessing, and hold equality and freedom as of the utmost value. But as soon as a new generation has arisen, and the democracy has descended to their children’s children, long association weakens their value for equality and freedom, and some seek to become more powerful than the ordinary citizens; and the most liable to this temptation are the rich. (which degenerates into rule of corruption and violence, only to be stopped by a return to despotism.) So when they begin to be fond of office, and find themselves unable to obtain it by their own unassisted efforts and their own merits, they ruin their estates, while enticing and corrupting the common people in every possible way. By which means when, in their senseless mania for reputation, they have made the populace ready and greedy to receive bribes, the virtue of democracy is destroyed, and it is transformed into a government of violence and the strong hand. For the mob, habituated to feed at the expense of others, and to have its hopes of a livelihood in the property of its neighbours, as soon as it has got a leader sufficiently ambitious and daring, being excluded by poverty from the sweets of civil honours, produces a reign of mere violence. Then come tumultuous assemblies, massacres, banishments, redivisions of land; until, after losing all trace of civilisation, it has once more found a master and a despot." 15. Proverbs 23:1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what [is] before thee: And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat. Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.
  16. Pr 1:10 "My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse: My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives. So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.
  17. Matthew 20:25-26 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;
Mark 10:42-43 But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:
Luke 22:25-26 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
