Matthew was inspired to explain the kingdom of God to the Jews and the Parthians so that they might repent of the ways of error[1] which were spots in their religion.[2] They needed to repent of systems of social welfare of the cities of blood and seek the way of His righteousness.

V1 "This parable (of the householder and the labourers), recorded only by Matthew, is closely connected with the end of the nineteenth chapter, being spoken with reference to Peter's question as to how it should fare with those who, like himself, had left all for Christ."[3] Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges stated, "All who have in a true sense given up all for Christ shall have a great reward (ch. Matthew 19:28-29)."[4]
"ye which have followed me, in the regeneration" What is the regeneration?[5] and shall inherit everlasting life." Matthew 19:28-29.
Jesus says, "...the kingdom of heaven is like..." to explain how the government he is going to take from the Pharisees and appoint to his little flock of disciples is supposed to work. He calls that government the Kingdom of God or kingdom of heaven.
V2, V7 Laborers from the first to the eleventh hour are paid the same in V8, V9 so that in V10, V13 murmuring and jealousy arose. In V14 he shows God is the God of contract, do not try to take away the choice of any.
V15 But He also is pointing out each of us have a right to decide to do what we will with what we have. It is also clear He is a capitalist and wants us to do be the same. He makes it clear that we should not have one purse nor exercise authority on over the other as the gentiles do. We should not make covenants with others where they can rule over us, to become a surety by oaths or debt.
V16 Those who attempt to put themselves first shall be last:[6]
Jesus also clearly talks in His Gospel of the kingdom that we should seek, endure, persevere, strive, and be a doer of the word as stated the Doctrine of Jesus. When he asks in this parable "Why stand ye here all the day idle?" Jesus knows that those that are slothful go under tribute to the world becoming obligated to serve the unrighteous mammon. They will feed the beast of the world because the feed the Nature of the Beast in themselves by biting one another instead of loving one another.
V17, V19 Jesus tells His disciples of what is to come in Jerusalem.
V20, V21 will be a request that will bring more murmuring and jealousy because someone wants their sons to be first.
In verse 22 He mentions the baptism of the Holy Spirit which is associated with a baptism of fire we saw in Matthew 3, Luke 3, and Mark 1.[7]
The apostles who said they were "able" did not know what they were talking about yet. People often like to proclaim "Yes we can" but that is a statement born of vanity. They were actually not able at that time but they would become able when they came into one accord with the Holy Spirit.
V23 ... "to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.
V26 But it shall not be so among[8] you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:
Acts 6:3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
Within free assemblies of tens there were Elders but also Ministers, Deacon and Priests, overseers or Bishops. Like the Levites, there was a peculiar non-authoritarian who were the benefactors of a free society through voluntary service.

* What is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire?
* Is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire actually one in the same?
* Was the baptism of fire what we see at Pentecost with tongues of fire over each individual who came into one accord?
* Does such baptism occur when two or more come into a true one accord with the spirit of Christ?
V30 Blind men ..cried out "Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David." The Son of David would be king.
V34 So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.


Laborers in the Vineyard

[1] For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.

[2] And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

Third hour the idle are called

[3] And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,

[4] And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.

Sixth and ninth hour called more

[5] Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.

Eleventh hour called the idle again

[6] And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?

[7] They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.

Call the labourers and give

[8] So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.

[9] And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.

They murmured

[10] But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny.

[11] And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house,

[12] Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.

He answered them

[13] But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?

[14] Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.

Lawful for me

[15] Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?

[16] So the last shall be first, and the first last[6] : for many be called, but few chosen.[6]

Jesus Foretells His Death a Third Time

[17] And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them,

[18] Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death,

[19] And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.


A Mother's Request

[20] Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.

[21] And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.

[22] But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.

Not mine to give

[23] And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.

[24] And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren.

Not exercise authority

[25] But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority[8] upon them.

[26] But it shall not be so among you[8]: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

[27] And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:[9]

[28] Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Jesus Heals Two Blind Men

[29] And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.

[30] And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.

[31] And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.

[32] And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?

[33] They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.

[34] So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.

    The hierarchy of the kingdom of God does not go up by steps nor exercise authority one over the other but come as he that serves:
