Brutish Pastors
- "For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered." Jeremiah 10:21
Brutish is defined as "resembling or characteristic of a brute."
Brute is defined as a noun as "a savagely violent person or animal." and as an adjective it is defined as "unreasoning and animallike."
It is from the Latin word brutus meaning dull or stupid rather than savage.
In the Bible the word brutish can be translated from the Hebrew word ba‘ar[1] which is a noun. The Hebrew word baar consists of the letters BeitAyinReish (בָּעַר)and is defined "to burn, consume". But seven times it is translated "brutish".
In Jeremiah 10:21 we see niḇărū (נִבְעֲרוּ֙) with the spelling NunBeitAyinReishVav.
In verse 8 we see yiḇărū (יִבְעֲר֣וּ) and spelled YodBeitAyinReishVav.
- "But they are altogether brutish <01197> and foolish: the stock [is] a doctrine of vanities." Jeremiah 10:8
In verse 14 we see niḇar (נִבְעַ֤ר) and we can see it spelled YodBeitAyinReish.
- "Every man is brutish <01197> in [his] knowledge: every founder is confounded by the graven images: for his molten image [is] falsehood, and [there is] no breath in them." Jeremiah 10:14
There are at least 95 occurrences of the word Baar translated commonly as a form of burn or waste. The first place this term is Exodus 3:2 "the bush burned <01197> with fire, and the bush [was] not consumed."[2]
A brutish pastor burns but does consume and does not satisfy or quench.
In Jeremiah 7:20 we see "Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn <01197>, and shall not be quenched."
This could be interpreted as the modern Church pastor who tickles the ears[3] and takes the money of the people but does not actually preach the whole gospel of the kingdom and the way that draws us near to the Holy Spirit who is the true comforter.

NotebookLM begins to explains
Today we are going to break down a single powerful phrase that might just change the way you think about spiritual leadership forever. We're talking about the idea of the brutish pastor. Let's dive right in.
So, let me just start by asking you a question. When you hear the word pastor, what image pops into your mind?
A preacher, right?
A spiritual adviser, maybe the head of a church.
Well, what if I told you the original meaning was something way more practical and that getting this one word wrong has had, well, massive consequences. So, to get to the bottom of this, we've got to peel back the layers on this modern title and see what's underneath. You know, get to its ancient meaning.
This isn't just about semantics. It's about a major fork in the road where the idea of a pastor split from the original concept of a shepherd. And this right here, this lays out the whole issue perfectly. On one side, you've got the modern pastor.
We see them as a position of authority, focusing on spiritual stuff, usually within a formal institution. But the original shepherd, totally different.
They were seen as a servant of the people, and their job to feed the flock both spiritually and physically by organizing a real living, breathing network of people helping people. And listen, this isn't just some new interpretation. It's baked right into the original language. The Hebrew root word for pastor is rah. Now, yeah, it's sometimes translated as shepherd, but way more often it's translated as to feed or to be fed. So, the core idea isn't about leading from a pulpit. It's about providing for the community.
But providing what exactly?
Well, that brings us to our next big point. What did feeding the flock actually mean for the first century church?
I'll give you a hint.
It was a lot more than just a good sermon. It was about building a system of real tangible support. You know, the early church had a whole system for this. It was this amazing voluntary grassroots network. People were organized into these small groups, maybe 10 families each. Then those groups were linked up into bigger networks of hundreds and thousands. And the ministers, the pastors, their job was to serve this network. They organized what was called a daily ministration of charity. They were literally coordinating the distribution of food, of bread from house to house.
This was their social safety net. And don't just take my word for it. We have historical records. Back in the second century, a writer named Justin Martyr explained this whole system to the Roman Emperor. He described a complete welfare system based entirely on free will offerings. Everything collected went to the person in charge whose job it was to take care of everyone in need. We're talking orphans, widows, the sick, prisoners, strangers, everyone. This was pure religion in action. But this beautiful system of pure religion built on love and charity, it eventually ran head-on into a totally different model.
What the Bible calls the tables of rulers. And this is where things start to go wrong. It's the shift away from voluntary care and toward a system of control.
The scriptures actually warn about this over and over. They talk about the dainties offered by rulers, calling them deceitful meat. It's such a powerful metaphor, right? Think about it. Government benefits can look so tempting like a free lunch, but they come with strings attached. They create dependency. Let's just put these two systems side by side because the difference is night and day. On one side, you have pure religion, the table of the Lord. It's all based on charity, on love. People give freely. This binds everyone together in fellowship and promotes real liberty. But then you have public religion, the tables of rulers.
This is based on force, on taxation. It demands contributions. And instead of fellowship, it creates bondage, debt, a system the Bible calls a snare that can even curse future generations. And this wasn't just some philosophical debate.
This was real life
The early Christians were actually persecuted by the Roman Empire, not just for what they believed, but because they refused to enroll in Rome's welfare system. They wouldn't take the government's free bread because they saw it for what it was, a trap that would take away their freedom and make them dependent on the state instead of each other. So when that original mission, that mission to feed the flock through a network of charity is abandoned, well, that's what leads us directly to the core concept of today's explainer, the brutish pastor. The prophet Jeremiah just lays it out so clearly. When pastors become brutish, what happens? They don't prosper and their flocks are scattered. But what does that word brutish actually mean? I promise you the answer is probably not what you're thinking and it is absolutely fascinating. Okay, so first let's just look at the English word brutish comes from the Latin word brutus.
Now we hear that and we think savage, violent, right? But that's not its original meaning. It actually meant dull or stupid or unthinking. So that's our first clue. But here, here is the real mind-blowing part. The original Hebrew word that gets translated into English as brutish is ba and its primary meaning has nothing to do with being dull or stupid. It means to burn, to consume. So, how in the world do we get from to burn all the way to brutish?
Well, look at this. The numbers tell the story. The words bar shows up in the Old Testament around 100 times. And a whopping 94 of those times it's translated as to burn, to consume, or to kindle. Only seven times does it get translated as brutish. The main idea here is clearly about fire and consumption. So when we put all the pieces together, the picture becomes crystal clear. A brutish pastor isn't a violent or cruel leader. He's a pastor who burns. He's busy. He's active. Maybe he gives amazing fiery sermons. He consumes resources, time, energy, money, but he doesn't actually feed the flock.
The fire is burning, but no one's getting warm. The real needs aren't being met. He is failing at the number one job of a true shepherd. And the result of that failure, it's exactly what Jeremiah predicted. The flock gets scattered. When the church stops being that practical support network, people are going to look somewhere else for help. You could argue that this very disconnect is a major reason we see the fragmentation of today with literally tens of thousands of different denominations.
The Solution
So, if that's the problem, what on earth is the solution?
Well, the answer is to return to the way of Christ, to get back to rebuilding that original network of pure religion. So, the work of a true shepherd becomes pretty clear, doesn't it?
It's about caring for the whole person, spiritual and physical needs.
It's about actively organizing people into a voluntary welfare network based on real charity. The goal is to free people from being dependent on government systems, and ultimately to make those forced systems obsolete through the simple power of love and community. So look, this isn't just a history lesson.
If this idea of a living, breathing, supportive network is something that speaks to you, there is a next step. Brutes and fools

The brutish pastor comes about because of the vanity of vanities[4]but they are also altogether foolish and tempt the people to make the "sacrifice of fools" written of in Ecclesiastes which is the Corban of the Pharisees which makes the word of God to none effect.
Christ told us not to go to the benefactors of governments who exercise authority one over the other to obtain our daily bread provided by the Fathers of the earth who encourage the covetous practices that make men merchandise and degenerate the masses. But the modern Church pastor fails to rightly divide the bread from house to house[5] like the early Church through Pure Religion by the practice of fervent charity.
The ministers of Christ were commanded by Christ in order to distribute bread needed by the people to have them organize in a network of Tens much like what Moses had done in Exodus. At that time a synagogue was ten families and it was through the synagogues which was the congregation of the day through which the people received their daily bread in time of need since Religion was the way you cared for the needy of society.
Rome and all the city-states offered some form of social welfare for it citizens. Some of those systems were based on freewill offerings but at the time of Christ most had transitioned to systems of Legal charity where there was an accounting and the use of an exercising authority[6] to obtain the reserve funds in a treasury to provide those benefits.
The religion of the heathen was considered idolatry because they were covetous practices.[7] The free bread of Rome decreased liberty[8] and degenerated the moral perception of the people turning them into human resources with less right to choose[9]
The whole gospel of John the Baptist was that you should take care of one another through charity and not force. Today, most of the social safety net of society is provided by the bureaucrats of those governments that call themselves benefactors but exercise authority one over the other and the "pastors" are blind guides of the modern Church, whether it is a mega institution or a home church, do not see that the legal charity of the world is the covetous practices that entangle the people back into the yoke of bondage, and like the Corban of the Pharisees is making the word of God to none effect because pure Religion has been replaced with public religion.
- "But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock is a doctrine of vanities." Jeremiah 10:8
What do they mean "brutish and foolish"?
Saul forced an offering of the people and was called foolish by Samuel. The Corban of the pharisees was the "sacrifice of fools" spoken of in Ecclesiastes 5.
Appearances
It appears five times in the Bible[10]
The adjective ba‘ar[11] appears in the Bible 94 times[12] but is only translated brutish about 7 times. It is 10 times more likely to be translated burn, kindle or burn up but also eaten, set, eat up twice each and even feed, heated, took, and wasted once each.
It would appear that what is dull or foolish or brutish can burn and waste the sacrifices of the people and even the people themselves when the nation commits adultery with the well favored harlot of their nation.
The brutish pastors of Jeremiah 10:21 scattered the flock which is why there are 40,000 denominations. But we also see God tells the son of man to prophesy against these shepherds who scatters the people but also do not feed the people but get fat themselves instead.[13]
But they also do not take care of the sick nor help those who are in bonds but in truth you bring the people into bonds and rule over them.[14]
This is what Herod and the Pharisees with their system of welfare that forced the Corban of the people who registered for their welfare system of their temples. John the Baptist opposed that system as did Christ because it makes the word of God to none effect.
Testament search for brutish
In the Old Testament we see the word brutish appearing 19 times.[15]
In the New Testament we find the word brute from the Greek word alogos[16] which means unreasonable or contrary to reason.[17]

Pastors should be like shepherds who tend to all the welfare needs of the people in a daily ministration of faith, hope, and charity, so that none of the sheep of Christ have to eat at the tables of legal charity provided by the exercising authority of the Fathers of the earth.[18]
Before Jesus was able to provide the people with loaves and fishes in Mark 6:39 He "commanded" His disciples to "make" the people sit down in Tens. And then those groups were to organize in companies upon companies in divisions and "ranks" of "fifties and hundreds".
Christ also told His disciples not to be like the rulers and princes of the Gentiles who provided benefits by exercising authority one over the other.
Everyone who got the Baptism of Christ was "put out" by the ordinance of the Pharisees of the Jewish synagogue system which was also composed of ten families through which they provided welfare with the "Corban" of the people.
Christ appointed a kingdom to His "called out" group He called His "little flock" to be ministers or servants to the people in "free assemblies" not rulers like the "benefactors" of the "world" who "exercise authority". Every man should be led by the Holy Spirit to gather in order to love one another. The minister is supposed to be serving by making or requiring the people voluntarily organize themselves in Companies of tens, fifties and hundreds, and thousands so that people may love one another through daily ministration in the practice of Pure Religion as we see the early Church doing in history for centuries.
If all the people who say they are Christians were actually doing what Christ commanded, socialism would be obsolete and no one could be or would be exploited. Socialism is the religion you get when you refuse to do what Christ commanded and have no Pure Religion.
MINISTER
The noun minister in the testaments means servant because the verb minister meant to serve.
The Old Testament uses the Hebrew word Sharath[19] which we translate minister. Those minsters served the tabernacle of the congregation through a system of altars.
Many modern Religions including many in modern Israel do not understand that the ministers and priests of Israel performed all the functions of modern government but funded those services by freewill offerings.[20] through a network of synagogues of the people where those ministers did not go up by steps nor exercise authority[6] one over the other.
When the masses[21] strayed from that voluntary system of self government advocated by Moses they would again go under tribute through "one purse" systems of social welfare offered the "dainties of rulers" through civil tables became a snare and a trap.
In the New Testament the use the Greek word for minister is diakonos[22] which also mean servant. There are other Greek words like huperetes[23] and leitourgos[24], both of which can mean a public servant of the governments of the world, are also referred to as the ministers of Christ.[25]
The purpose of joining the networks of tens set up by Moses and by Christ is to create an environment to help teach the people the way of sacrifice. John the Baptist and Jesus called the people to repent. That prosses incudes Fasting from their appetite and desire for those benefits and dainties coming from the tables of the unrighteous mammon which may allow them to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness through that sacrifice and love.
The people and ministers of the modern Churches must confess to God and men that they have often chose to tickle the ears in their gatherings and justify eating at those tables of the princes of the world, men who call themselves benefactors but who exercise authority[6] one over the other until the whole world has returned to the bondage of Egypt, which is Mystery Babylon.
We must seek righteousness of God because the people have not been doing what Christ said for at least a hundred years and more. Preachers have not been teaching the way of the Corban of Christ but have remained blind guides[26] far to long.
Christ commanded that His disciples make the people gather in tens, hundreds, and thousands like the Early Church, like early Israel and love one another in the practice Pure Religion. They provided a daily ministration and rightly divide bread from house to house. When there were disasters and famines they sent aid all over the world to those within that network of followers of the way. The Church was to provide tables of welfare that were not a snare, did not make people human resources and curse children through covetousness which is idolatry.
But the failure of the masses and the apostate churches to follow the way has made them both subject. They are again entangled in the yoke of bondage and curse children as surety for debt to the unrighteous mammon. Those who feel the sting of the whips and scorpions of that bondage may want to get out of Egypt but should more earnestly seek the kingdom.
Both Moses and Jesus taught the people to care for one another before they were free. They taught them to walk in faith first as the first steps toward the kingdom as they learned what it meant to repent. The purpose of the network was and is not to give you sense of belonging or feelings of security, nor comfort on the road to destruction nor escape your existing civil obligations of Egypt but to return to your duties and responsibilities willingly and seek righteousness.
You were not to covet the social welfare of governments that exercise authority[6] but instead gather to provide a daily ministration for society through charity by personal sacrifice.
That requires what was called repentance so that the individual learns The Way of Christ which is the way of sacrifice and doing your duty to God and your fellow man. Even when doing what is righteous does not produces desired benefit for you you accept the consequences and do the will of the Father.
If you truly did that you would create the social bonds of a free society and by the grace of God you might have the power to be competitive with and even overcome the corporation states of the world, those cities of blood.
Types of living Altars
In the Church there are two types of altars, Clay and Stone.[27]
These terms like altars of stones or earth are metaphors for elements of a system by which men may remain free souls under God the Father in Heaven with no other gods before them.
While reading the Old Testament we may believe that we are being told to pile up stones and kill sheep and oxen as if by doing so we will create the loyalty and honor required to maintain and protect a free society. The truth is much simpler and far more practical once we understand the Sophistry of false teachers.
We know the Pharisees had strayed from the teachings of Moses. We know that Jesus, as the Christ came preaching the Kingdom of God at hand and appointed that Kingdom to His titular servants.
Have Modern Christians and their ministers also been led astray into a state of apostasy and under a strong delusion?
Moses and Christ were in agreement.[28]
Every man is an altar of earth. The Hebrew word for earth when talking about altars of earth is "adamah". We are the Adamah. We are all sons of Adam. Each man plays his part in the kingdom of God by being a conduit for the sacrifices of his family in the practice of "pure religion".
If the ministers called out by God the Father will gather the people in companies as Jesus "commanded" in Mark 6:39 and "make" them sit down in companies upon companies in divisions and "ranks" of "in fifties and hundreds so that they may love one another in the practice of Pure Religion the Holy Spirit will come and bless His peculiar people.

- "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, [and] to keep himself unspotted from the world." James 1:27
The Elder of each family chooses how his family is to serve his congregation and the whole community.
Religion is the performance of our duty to God and our fellow man. Everyone in the kingdom or seeking the kingdom must realize that they are ministers to each other. Ministers of the Kingdom are those who gather together to facilitate that ministry on a national and world-wide basis.[29]
The stone altars are also men, lively stones. The living ministers of the Church chosen by men, and ordained of God are the living altars of stone of the kingdom[30]. They are titular leaders and benefactors who do not exercise authority[6] over the contributing of the people but minister their offerings for the good of those they serve with Freewill offerings in a system of Daily ministration according to the Perfect law of liberty.
The church is an alternative government form[31] based on "the perfect law of liberty" composed of families in congregations, and ordained ministers who are servants of servants facilitating a system of welfare through faith, hope, and charity that sets men free.

Why Minister

Most modern Christians have a distorted view of religion. They also have a false view of what the role of a minister is meant to be.
Ministers are first servants of God but also servants of the people.
The Ministers of Christ are forbidden to exercise authority one over the other and therefore they are titular leaders like those of the early Church.
They were to aid the people in the practice of Pure Religion according to The Way of Christ.
While the minister who formed the ekklesia sought to conform to the commands of Christ and meet the other requirements for his disciples.
The free assemblies or congregation also assembled as Christ commanded in patterns of tens.
Together they functioned as the pure Republics of more ancient history and were "one form of government" where the leaders of the people were titular, they did not rule over the bodies and minds of the people.
It was up to each individual minister to look out amongst the people and choose a minister to their family but also minister to or serve others.
Steps
- Ministers of the people are recognized and accepted by the witness of the people.
- Ministers of the Church should then:
- Come together to obey what Christ commanded according to the will of the Father,
- Come together to serve others through love and just not yourself,
- Come together to propagate Christ's doctrines and ordinances,
- Come together in hope that the people "might be saved".
Duties =
They should be assisting in the Corban of Christ and aiding the people in their duty of Pure Religion like the early Church who were attending to the Weightier matters as Christ warned.
They should be making it possible for the people of faith who love one another not to have to depend upon any minister of the world who exercises authority one over the other.
Even Polybius warned the people of their "appetite for benefits and the habit of receiving them by way of a rule of force". John the Baptist said the same things encouraging charity among those who received his Baptism.
You cannot covet the property of others to provide your livelihood or you and your society will "degenerate again into perfect savages and find once more a master and monarch."
Authoritarian States use force and violence to become the Benefactors of the people. They force one class of citizen to provide for another. Proverbs 23 warned and Christ forbid that type of government.
Their solution was to not pray to the Fathers of the earth for their free bread and benefits which was a snare, but to set the table of the Lord through the Eucharist of Christ which was a daily ministration established by His Church through faith, hope, charity and the perfect law of liberty.
The same is true of ministers who are not rulers over the faith of true believers.
- "Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand." 2 Corinthians 1:24
Modern doctrines of men
Many modern doctrines of Churches try to dictate tenets of faith based on private interpretation rather than the actual direct doctrines of Jesus. The true minister of Christ only facilitates the people's practice of Pure Religion by connecting them in a kingdom of God and His righteousness.
The ministers of God are not rulers nor spiritual gurus nor their comforters. Every man should be led by the Holy Spirit.
In Mark 6:39 Christ commanded His called out disciples to make the people organize themselves in small "companies"[32] which are the elders of ten families. Those elders choose a minister, usually another elder. Those elder ministers gather in a congregation of elders or Deacons in "ranks".[33]
A rank of fifty would be 5 "companies" of 10 families which would add up to fifty families.
Two "ranks" of fifties would be a hundred families or 10 "companies" of elders of families which would be 10 groups of 10 families.
This practical network of free assemblies is The Way to practice pure religion in faith, hope and charity according to the perfect law of liberty as free souls under God.

- For it is written that the tables of dainties provided by rulers of the world are a snare because they cause the masses to bite one another through government systems of legal charity which are covetous practices which are a form of fornication or adultery where the people are devoured as merchandise, curse children and are "entangled again in the yoke of bondage" with the aid of the false religion of the whore who rides the beast.
- ↑ Destroyers of liberty
- "That the man who first ruined the Roman people twas he who first gave them treats and gratuities. But this mischief crept secretly and gradually in, and did not openly make it's appearance in Rome for a considerable time." Plutarch's Life of Coriolanus (c. 100 AD.) This would include Julius Caesar and eventually Augustus Caesar which is why Plutarch also reported, “The real destroyers of the liberties of the people is he who spreads among them bounties, donations, and benefits.” This was a major theme of the Bible:
- There were tables of welfare which were both snares and a traps as David and Paul stated and Peter warned would make us merchandise and curse children.
