The Word Cult
"Words are the symbols of ideas." And while translators are often traitor their ally is often the authors of new dictionaries.
The modern word cult is borrowed via the French culte the word cult was first used in the early 17th century. It was originally from the Latin cultus which meant worship. The word worship, like the word religion, was what you did to fulfill that obligation of care for your fellowman within society.
There were different ways to do that.
The Imperial cult of ancient Rome identified emperors and some members of their families with the divinely sanctioned authority of the Roman State.
They sometimes called the leaders a god. But the word god did not mean then what many think it means today. Paul said their were "gods many". Who were these gods? Understanding that will help you understand what the Roman Cult was.
Cults often have a bases in religion but then the definition of the word Religion changes over time too.
We need to read understand what Religion was and what the two different types of religion are. If Religion has to do with the Welfare of the people then it could be said the two types of religion is divided according to the two types of welfare.
The word cult in the Oxford Dictionaries is defined as "a system of religious veneration and devotion directed toward a particular figure or object."
The word "cult" was originally used not to describe a group of religionists, but the practice of Religion done as the act of worship or religious ceremony.
In order to delude the people we only need to change the meaning of the word religion and then the symbols of the The Imperial cult of ancient Rome also change. Religion use to be how you fulfilled your obligation to God or gods to care for your neighbor.
Therefore it was said that true Christianity was Pure Religion which was the fulfillment of your obligation to care for your neighbor according to The Way of Jesus and John the Baptist without depending on the force and control used by the "World" at that time.
Cults and Corban
The framework for the Imperial cult as defined was formulated during the early Principate of Augustus, and was rapidly established throughout the Empire and its provinces, with marked local variations in its reception and expression.
Augustus' reforms transformed Rome's Republican system of government to a de facto monarchy, couched in traditional Roman practices and and feigned Republican values much like the United States has done, see. Rome vs US... The Image of Rome
A cult is also where there is a "a misplaced or excessive admiration for a particular person or thing." Misplaced is a matter of opinion. The veneration of Augustus Caesar was misplaced from the Christian point of view but the veneration of Jesus was also misplaced according to the view of many Romans. This was the Christian conflict.
It was the conflict between the Public religion of Rome supported by the compelled contributions of the genius of Caesar and the Private Religion of Jesus Christ by supported by the compelled contributions faith, hope and charity, which is love, that was at the core of all persecution of real Christians.
It is very important for people to understand things like conflict between the Corban of the Pharisees and the Corban of Christ. This was the Christian conflict with that Public religion of Rome. Because Modern Christians are not practicing Pure Religion for almost a hundred years in America and in most of the World they have more in common with the Imperial cult of the World.
- In the beginning God made man and then breathed His life into that man.
- .XII. "And God created man, taking a lump of clay from the earth, and breathed into his face the breath of life: and man became a living soul." The races of men are twofold; for one is the heavenly man, and the other the earthly man. Now the heavenly man, as being born in the image of God, has no participation in any corruptible or earth-like essence. But the earthly man is made of loose material, which he calls a lump of clay. On which account he says, not that the heavenly man was made, but that he was fashioned according to the image of God; but the earthly man he calls a thing made, and not begotten by the maker. And we must consider that the man who was formed of earth, means the mind which is to be infused into the body, but which has not yet been so infused. And this mind would be really earthly and corruptible, if it were not that God had breathed into it the spirit of genuine life; for then it "exists," and is no longer made into a soul; and its soul is not inactive, and incapable of proper formation, but a really intellectual and living one. "For man," says Moses, "became a living soul." The First Book of the Treatise on The Allegories of the Sacred Laws,
After the Work of the Six Days of Creation. Philo Judaeus.
The adjective cultus could mean inhabited, cultivated, or worshiped in the sense of how you took care of the needy members of society. It was derived from the Latin verb colere meaning to care for or even to cultivate.
Able was a shepherd that cared for his sheep but Cain was a cultivator of the soil. He tilled the ground or what was called the adamah.
- Genesis 4:2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground (adamah).
The word translated tiller is from the Hebrew word דבע , ‘abad which is a verb translated serve 227 times, do 15, till only 9 times and even worshippers 5 times but it also was translated servant, work, service, dress, labour, ear, and several other ways. While it is defined as "to work, serve" we also see it defined as "to labour" "to be worked" "to compel to labour or work, cause to labour, cause to serve" or even "to be led or enticed to serve".
"Therefore, as we found a tiller of the earth and a husbandman, though there did not appear to be any difference between them (till we came to investigate the allegorical meaning concealed under each name), nevertheless very far removed from one another in fact, such also shall we find to be the case with a shepherd and a keeper of sheep. For the lawgiver sometimes speaks of the occupation of a shepherd, and sometimes of that of a keeper of sheep. And those who do not examine expressions with any excessive accuracy, ill perhaps fancy that these two appellations are synonimous terms for the same employment. They are, however, in reality the names of things which are widely different in the meaning affixed to their concealed ideas. For if it is customary to give both the names of shepherd and keeper of sheep to those who have the management of flocks, still they do not give these names to that reason which is the superintendant of the flock of the soul; for a man who is but an indifferent manager of a flock is called a keeper of sheep, but a good and faithful one is called a shepherd, and in what way we will proceed to show immediately." A Treatise on the Tilling of the Earth by Noah, Section VI. Philo Judaeus
Adamah is what God made Adam from.
Just as the word religion has changed or been changed, so also has the word cult come to mean "a misplaced or excessive admiration for a particular person or thing."
Are public welfare schemes simply a cult run by men who call themselves Benefactors but exercise authority over the people causing them to work and serve them like Cain in his first city State?

There is a modern use of the word cult that refers to a religious group that controls the life of the members and stops them from leaving. The public cults include almost every social welfare system but the same principle applies to small and even big religious groups that use psychological and even physical control to keep you a subject member.

Ten warning signs
Ten warning signs of a potentially unsafe group/leader.
- . Absolute authoritarianism without meaningful accountability.
- . No tolerance for questions or critical inquiry.
- . No meaningful financial disclosure regarding budget, expenses such as an independently audited financial statement.
- . Unreasonable fear about the outside world, such as impending catastrophe, evil conspiracies and persecutions.
- . There is no legitimate reason to leave, former followers are always wrong in leaving, negative or even evil.
- . Former members often relate the same stories of abuse and reflect a similar pattern of grievances.
- . There are records, books, news articles, or television programs that document the abuses of the group/leader.
- . Followers feel they can never be "good enough".
- . The group/leader is always right.
- . The group/leader is the exclusive means of knowing "truth" or receiving validation, no other process of discovery is really acceptable or credible.
Ten warning signs regarding people involved in/with a potentially unsafe group/leader.
- . Extreme obsessiveness regarding the group/leader resulting in the exclusion of almost every practical consideration.
- . Individual identity, the group, the leader and/or God as distinct and separate categories of existence become increasingly blurred. Instead, in the follower's mind these identities become substantially and increasingly fused--as that person's involvement with the group/leader continues and deepens.
- . Whenever the group/leader is criticized or questioned it is characterized as "persecution".
- . Uncharacteristically stilted and seemingly programmed conversation and mannerisms, cloning of the group/leader in personal behavior.
- . Dependency upon the group/leader for problem solving, solutions, and definitions without meaningful reflective thought. A seeming inability to think independently or analyze situations without group/leader involvement.
- . Hyperactivity centered on the group/leader agenda, which seems to supercede any personal goals or individual interests.
- . A dramatic loss of spontaneity and sense of humor.
- . Increasing isolation from family and old friends unless they demonstrate an interest in the group/leader.
- . Anything the group/leader does can be justified no matter how harsh or harmful.
- . Former followers are at best-considered negative or worse evil and under bad influences. They can not be trusted and personal contact is avoided.

Key warning signs
- Single charismatic leader.
- Instant friends. People always seeming constantly happy and enthusiastic. Especially if you discover that they have been told to act that way for the potential new recruits.
- If you are told who you can or cannot talk to or associate with.
- They hide what they teach.
- Say they are the only true group, or the best so why go anywhere else.
- Hyped meetings, get you to meetings rather than share with you.
- Experiential rather than logical.
- Asking for money for the next level.
- Some cults travel door to door during times when women are home alone. They, and this is rather sexist, think that women are easier to recruit and once they have the woman then it will be easier to snare the husband or partner.
- Saying that they have to make people pay for it because otherwise they will not appreciate it. This is of course a very silly reason, plenty of people are able to appreciate things which they did not pay for.
Safe signs
Ten signs of a safe group/leader.
- . A safe group/leader will answer your questions without becoming judgmental and punitive.
- . A safe group/leader will disclose information such as finances and often offer an independently audited financial statement regarding budget and expenses. Safe groups and leaders will tell you more than you want to know.
- . A safe group/leader is often democratic, sharing decision making and encouraging accountability and oversight.
- . A safe group/leader may have disgruntled former followers, but will not vilify, excommunicate and forbid others from associating with them.
- . A safe group/leader will not have a paper trail of overwhelmingly negative records, books, articles and statements about them.
- . A safe group/leader will encourage family communication, community interaction and existing friendships and not feel threatened.
- . A safe group/leader will recognize reasonable boundaries and limitations when dealing with others.
- . A safe group/leader will encourage critical thinking, individual autonomy and feelings of self-esteem.
- . A safe group/leader will admit failings and mistakes and accept constructive criticism and advice.
- . A safe group/leader will not be the only source of knowledge and learning excluding everyone else, but value dialogue and the free exchange of ideas.
