Sarpanitu or Zarpanitu and other goddesses were associated with fertility which required regular and healthy diet. In the Mesopotamian pantheon many goddess names were closely associated with social welfare, justice, healing, and grain. Ishtar and other Goddesses like the Turtledove goddess or Nanshe have been linked to social welfare as a Sumerian deity who presided over justice, compassion, and administrative tasks like weighing and measuring grain and other goods. She was a protector of "orphans, widows", and anyone who became were socially vulnerable. Nanshe Hymn[1] describes her care of the poor and needy.

Succoth-benoth

Succoth-benoth is literally "the daughter of booth" סֻכּוֹת בְּנוֹת‎ or Cukkowth bënowth who an Assyrian or Babylonian deity worshipped by the Babylonians in Samaria after being resettled. This may be a Hebrew spelling of the goddess Sarpanitu (also spelled Zir-banitu) who is the female counter part to Marduk.

2 Kings 17:30
"And the men of Babylon made Succothbenoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,
31 And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.
32 So they feared the LORD, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.
33 They feared the LORD, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations[2] whom they carried away from thence. [3]
34 Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the LORD, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;

By any names

Sarpanitu's other names were Erua, Papnunanki, Elagu, and Laḫamun. She was was also called šarrat Bābili or "Queen of Babylon" and the "Queen" ofthe Esagila temple complex which was the most important religious center in ancient Babylon.

These temples in ancient Mesopotamia were major economic and social institutions that managed large-scale granaries and food redistribution systems.

Yes, the temple was more than a place of worship but worship meant to bow down and serve. Their religious priest did organize a vast household with the city's deity as its symbolic head. Temples controlled vast resources, including agricultural land, livestock, workshops, and significant personnel.

Food supplies, especially grain, could be collected from the temple's own estates and as taxes or offerings.

"The word temple is expressed in Mesopotamian languages as “house of the god” (Sumerian: e-dingir; Akkadian: bit ilim)... The most complete picture from the third millennium b.c.e. is provided by an archive of some 1,800 inscribed tablets from the temple of the goddess Ba’u, a second-rank temple in the Sumerian city of Girsu, part of the larger city-state of Lagash. Dated to the first half of the twenty-fourth century b.c.e., the tablets detail the economic activities of the temple: cultivation of cereal crops, vegetables, and fruit trees; maintenance of irrigation systems; husbandry of sheep, goats, cows, and donkeys; and fresh- and saltwater fishing. Beware of the Welfare

Temples "frequently functioned as a form of charity, extending welfare by distributing food during times of scarcity. A notable example from another temple shows the institution taking in orphans and widows."

These systems of rulers under deities like Marduk offered the welfare that was a snare and a trap warned of by the Prophets and Paul.[4]

She has been associated with prostitution but may simply be a personification of the Harlot or Whore who rides the beast. In this case that would be the government that would be holding up Marduk as the God of their religion.

Such systems were like the Corban of the Pharisees which was the covetous practices that make men merchandise and devour children with debt, and is idolatry.[5]

The rulers that used these temple systems that collect the funds through an exercising authority of the state are often called Benefactors like Herod but the bread they is often full of oppression or what the Bible calls leaven. And like the Corban of the Pharisees it made the word of God to none effect.

The Altar of Abraham and Jacob's altar of El-Elohe-Israel[6] were the alternative to the Bondage of Egypt and the cities of blood.

  5. Covetousness is idolatry

    Ephesians 5:5 "For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God."
