Minarchism is a libertarian political philosophy which advocates for a particular variety of minimal state that acts only to enforce a universal framework of natural and legal rights essential to the functioning of a free marketplace in economy and culture, and operating through a limited government societally managed according to democratic or republican principles.

There are different models of what is sometimes called a minarchy.

One form is the "night-watchman state", which suggests that the only legitimate function would be the protection of individuals from aggression, theft, breach of contract, and fraud.

It assumes that the only legitimate governmental institutions would be the military, police, and courts.

How much power does it take to start corruption? A little power is often a little to much power.

But where does a minarchist safely draw the line?

What is too much power in the hands of government?

How much power should a government have?

Israel was a form of minarchism, although its military and police was composed of the people who were expected to provide and answer a hue and cry in time of need. Even the basic courts consisted of the local congregations and a process of voir dire when congregants from more than one congregation were involved in a dispute or claim.

The government which consisted of a priest class of Levites was supported entirely with freewill offerings, or what we call charity. Besides a welfare system dependent on charity, rather than forced offerings like the Corban of the Pharisees which Jesus would later condemn, their only other government function was a system of appeals courts for the purpose of acquittal in the case of local injustice.

The people maintained the power of government because there was no common purse or compelled taxes except one half shekel a year, just to confirm your participation in that system.

The whole nation was based on a network of Tens. Even that system could be corrupted if the people did not cultivate Social Virtues.

All that is needed for a successful minarchy or anarchy or even a Republican form of government is the people that come together in a society and community have to care about their neighbor's private property rights as much as they care about their own.

Of course, they also need to avoid Covetous Practices that lead to Social contract that might make the people [Merchandise|[merchandise or human resources]] and a surety for debt and curse their children, bringing them into the bondage of the elements of the world.

To be free, people must attend to the Weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith which include caring for the needs of our neighbors and the widows and orphans of our society through Pure Religion in matters of health, education, and welfare. We are NOT to provide for the needy of society through the Covetous Practices and the men who call themselves benefactors but who exercise authority one over the other like the socialists do.

The Way of Christ was like neither the way of the world of Rome nor the governments of the gentiles who depend on those fathers of the earth through force, fear and fealty who deliver the people back in bondage again like they were in Egypt. Christ's ministers and true Christians do not depend upon systems of social welfare that force the contributions of the people like the corban of the Pharisees which made the word of God to none effect. Many people have been deceived to go the way of Balaam and the Nicolaitan and out of The Way of Christ and have become workers of iniquity.

The Christian conflict with Rome in the first century Church appointed by Christ was because they would not apply to the fathers of the earth for their free bread but instead relied upon a voluntary network providing a daily ministration to the needy of society through Faith, Hope, and Charity by way of freewill offerings of the people, for the people, and by the people through the perfect law of liberty in Free Assemblies according to the ancient pattern of Tuns or Tens as He commanded.

The modern Christians are in need of repentance.

Footnotes

  1. Matthew 20:25-26 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;
Mark 10:42-43 But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:
Luke 22:25-26 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
