Hivite spirit
The Hivite,[1] who or what are they?
The term Hivites חִוִּי Chivviy is composed of the letters ChetVavYod. It has been suggested that is from the word הוָּחַ chavvah composed of the root word Hebrew letters ChetVavHey said to mean a village.
Hivites חִוִּי Chivviy can mean something which is typified by the corrupting influence of the covetous culture of Paganism and the peril of thinking in the spirit of incomplete obedience due to an unchecked compromise of the way of the faithful which often leads to captivity (Judges 3:5-7[2]).
God "promised to bring you up out of your affliction in Egypt to the land of the Canaanites… the Hivites, and the Jebusites” (Exodus 3:17).
But according to the instructions included in verse 18[3] that the people, like Hivites, "are to hearken to thy voice... elders... may sacrifice to the LORD our God" and not compromise faith in the LORD because of the thinking of pagan daughters who seek comfort in the covetousness of idolatry.Judges 3:5-7[2]
Violation of Dinah
In Genesis 34 the text had narrated the violation of Dinah by Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, revealing the moral climate that led to genocide by the sons of Jacob. That unjust revenge lead them to the bondage of Egypt which was a mercy.

The mercy of bondage
How was the bondage of Egypt a mercy?
Because while they were in the bondage of Egypt they had an opportunity to repent but it took 400 years.
Jacob went into bondage to Laban who was idolater like Terah. It only took Jacob 21 years and he began to repent so that he could become Israel.
Consequence of sin
The consequence of their sin of revenge could have been much worse but for Jacob's repentance and rejection of Idolatry and his faithful building of the Altar of Bethel as Israel.
“1 And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother. 2 Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments: 3 And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went. 4 And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.” Genesis 35:1-4
The blood of Canaanite
The Gibeonite Hivites secured a treaty through subterfuge in Joshua 9. They are consistently named among the seven nations[4] of Canaan.[5] Genesis 10:17 lists them as descendants of Canaan, establishing their lineage within the Hamitic branch and explaining why they occupied the Promised Land prior to Israel.
The Canaanites way makes men merchandise The term Hivite includes the idea of deceptive covenants. The Gibeonite Hivites secured a treaty through subterfuge in Joshua 9. Israel’s leaders, having failed to seek divine counsel, were bound by oath: “The men of Israel said to the Hivites, ‘Perhaps you dwell among us; so how can we make a treaty with you?’” (Joshua 9:7).

The nature of covetous
The nature of Canaan[5] was a bloody system that reduced men to human resources through the covetous practices of Idolatry.[7] The episodes of the history of Israel and the Hivites not elevates the sanctity of vows and the necessity of prayerful discernment but also the dangers of cultures that accept the idea that lying, bearing false witness, is acceptable.

- Canaanites, Amorites, Girgashites, Hittites, Hivites, Jebusites, and Perizzites are both as literal nations/peoples in the land of Canaan, and also as a symbol of those whose practices are in opposition to God. The names can serve as “types” or “representations” of ungodliness.

- Psalms 106:“36 And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them. 37 Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils, 38 And shed innocent blood, [even] the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood."

- ↑ Covetousness is idolatry
- Colossians 3:5 "Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:"
- Ephesians 5:5 "For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God."
- 1 Corinthians 5:10 "Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. 11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat."
- For it is written that the tables of dainties provided by rulers of the world are a snare because they cause the masses to bite one another through government systems of legal charity which are covetous practices which are a form of fornication or adultery where the people are devoured as merchandise, curse children and are "entangled again in the yoke of bondage" with the aid of the false religion of the whore who rides the beast.
