Sacrifice
To give up something for the sake of others is to freely give. The essence of charity and love is to give by individual freewill choice with no legal obligation applied.
As a noun
There are a number of different definitions of the word sacrifice as a noun and verb. One of those definitions might include:
- an act of slaughtering an animal or person or surrendering a possession as an offering to God or to a divine or supernatural figure.
- an animal, person, or object offered in a sacrifice.
synonyms: (votive) offering, burnt offering, gift, oblation
- an act of giving up something valued for the sake of something else regarded as more important or worthy.
- "we must all be prepared to make sacrifices"
- synonyms: surrender, giving up, abandonment, renunciation, forfeiture, relinquishment, resignation, abdication
- "joining a federation may result in the sacrifice of sovereignty"
As a verb
As a verb: sacrifice; 3rd person present: sacrifices; past tense: sacrificed; past participle: sacrificed; gerund or present participle: sacrificing
- offer or kill as a religious sacrifice.
- give up (something important or valued) for the sake of other considerations.
To "give up" or "surrender" is to sacrifice.
Offerings and sacrifice
The offerings of Cain and Abel were called Minchah[2] meaning "gift, tribute, offering" and were given by Cain and Abel in some manner to God. The word was not used again until Jacob gave Esau his brother a gift.[3] We will see this word used again when Joseph's brothers bring him a gift to appease him.[4]
The first time we see the word burnt offering[5] used is when Noah brings an offering[6] to an altar.[7]. The term olah, translated burnt offering,[5] will be used again by Abraham and Isaac but also throughout Exodus and the Torah.
The word mizbeach is always translated altar[7] and is from Zabach meaning to sacrifice or offer.[8]
Sacrifices that are called burnt offerings have a purpose and a functional value within society.
Kinds of sacrifice
There are two kinds of sacrifices. There are those we are forced to make or force others to make and then there are those sacrifices we choose to make out of love for others.
Saved by the blood
The sacrifice of Christ was a voluntary sacrifice of Himself that others "might be saved".[1]
People often turn the "sacrifice of Christ" and "the blood of Jesus" into a repeated sound bite, a religious chant, just hollow words often used to merely conjure up an emotional feeling or mental verification of their own self-righteousness. But they do not understand the true meaning of His blood nor even have the conversation that they might be saved.[1]
They want you to repeat those favorite religious phrases because of the ideas they associate with them. That is often merely their faith in an idea or their ideology or a religious doctrine resulting from their private interpretation, but that may not be a Sound Doctrine.
If they did understand the true meaning of His blood sacrifice they would repent of their own selfish deeds of iniquity and covetous practices which have always made the word of God to none effect. They would repent and seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness.
But we do not see them doing that. They do not even want to have the conversation about what that looks like or what it does not include.
They do not become doers of the Word nor keepers of His commandments.[9]
Many modern Christians, instead of laying down their life daily like Christ taught, remain workers of iniquity, often biting one another, saying "Lord, Lord", but not doing what Christ said to do. They do not want to see the truth about themselves nor that voluntary sacrifice made by Christ so that they "might be saved"[1] but they only want to say the words, reciting their favorite religious phrases which have become a stumblingblock and a snare because those words and phrases are the idols of their false religion.
They say they accept the blood of Christ but in truth they are far from Him. They go to blind guides for they prefer the darkness over the light of truth.
They take His name in vain when they say they are Christian but choose to not do as he said. The sacrifice of Christ is real but their faith in it is false. We know this by what they do, by their covetous practices and by their hatred of the light of the truth.
Sacrifice the lie
Like the Pharisees who said they had Moses but who did not know him, the modern Christian says they trust in the blood of Christ but still won't let go of their Corban, their entitlements, and their cities of blood in order to attend to the weightier matters through the daily sacrifice by faith, hope and charity.
Can we give up the idolatry of modern religion to receive the truth of the gospel of the Kingdom of God and His righteousness?
Can we give up our will in order to do God's will?
Can we give up pride for humility?
Can we give up comfort and convenience for righteousness?
Many people give up rights in exchange for benefits and eat the dainties of rulers at his table which has always degenerated the masses and is a snare.
Blood is life
In some ancient cultures domestic animals were part of the life blood of society.
The phrase life blood of society is a metaphor that expresses the idea that owning domestic animals is an essential element to survival in society.
Were the Altars of ancient societies and the ritual killing of animals just an allegory and metaphor of customs that actually had a practical social purpose? Were the altars of Clay and Stone symbols of systems that provided a social service that bound society together?
This was understood by the Essenes who read the Torah. They understood the Sophistry of Sacrifice.
Even the sacrifice of the Red Heifer was merely a metaphor for foreign aid. The only true sovereign is God but God has given us choice from the beginning. We may eat from, or be guided by, one of two Trees. One is the Tree of Life and the other of our own Knowledge of Good and Evil. Gods are ruling judges. Will we wait upon the LORD or serve other gods by making Contracts, Covenants and Constitutions with them to obtain their Grace and Benefits?
If we join "a federation [which] may result in the sacrifice of sovereignty", our personal right to choose, or our liberty of choice we may be required to sacrifice or serve the gods many of the World. That service and allegiance comes in many forms including taxation, military service, and even service in civilian work projects.
Have we sacrificed our God-given liberty for the comfort and dainties provided by rulers - the wages of unrighteousness?
Have we looked to be Saved by Benefactors of the World and the Fathers of the earth who with One purse take from each of our neighbors bringing us closer to damnation as Merchandise through our Covetous Practices?
Have we returned to the Bondage of Egypt in a Corvee system through a Corban that makes the word of God to none effect like the pig returning to the mire?
Saved by
What are we really Saved by?
Christ died that we "might be saved"[1] but not without our repentance.
Do we have real Faith in Christ without Probity of The Way of Christ who came to serve and save others?
Are we gathering to save others or just ourselves?
Do we love others as much as ourselves? Do we value other people's life as much as we value our own?
Is not our Faith dead without the works of Jesus Christ in our life?
If we do not daily sacrifice for others in service of righteousness then we do not have true faith in Christ or The Way and we are not saved by His grace.
God will give
Exodus 6:4 "And I have also established my covenant with them, to give[10] them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers."
The word give[10] in verse 4 appears in a variety of forms throughout the Bible. In Deuteronomy 7:3 we see Marriages[11] is not ChetTavNun חָתַן chathan but is TavTavChetTavNun תִתְחַתֵּ֖ן ṯiṯ-ḥat-tên which is about making contracts, covenants and constitutions with them in Spirit and Truth because of the double Tav.
In Deuteronomy 7:5 we see a word for destroy but not from shamad ShinMemDalet[12] nor Abad AlefBeitDelat[13] nor charam ChetReishMem[14] which are the most common Hebrew words translated destroy.
Here the word destroy reated to altars nathats formed with the Hebrew letters NunTavTzadik.[15] But in the text we see tit-tō-ṣū (תִּתֹּ֔צוּ) formed with the letters TavTavTzadikVav, again containing the Double Tav which means to not just destroy the form of their altars with violence but with the "Spirit and Truth" which only comes with faith in The Way of God which is the way of righteousness.
In Mark 7:10-13 We see Corban, or (Sacrifice), should be a gift to God through charity as explained by John the Baptist, not by force like Herod and the Pharisees. Even King Saul foolishly thought he could obtain the sacrifices of the people by force and reap the same results; that is to say ( רצון לתת Ratzon La’Tet), "by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free of charge.” But Samuel told him that was foolish and for that reason his kingdom would not stand.
To take away the right of your neighbor to choose to give in the liberty of true charity is the foolishness and covetous practices that will entangle the people in the yoke of bondage.[16]
There are well over a hundred variations in the Hebrew text for this word give[10]. In Exodus 6:4 and 8 we see the word La’tet is written Lamed-Tav-Tav לתת, also with a double Tav and us said to mean to give which includes the will to receive on condition. We see the words I will give assigned the Strongs number 05414 which is normally nâthan, NunTavNun[10] but in the text of verse 8 we see a second variation of La’tet appear as wənāṯattî with the letters VavNunTavTavYod (וְנָתַתִּ֨י) with another double Tav which means that Israel must be willing to accept the gift on the conditions of their conformity to the righteousness of God in "Spirit and Truth".
