V3 The phrase "entangled (buwk(בּוּךְ))[1] in the land" suggests that the Pharaoh thinks they are confused because they did not go the common way. In Exodus 13:17 we see "God led them not [through] the way ... that [was] near... Lest they... return to Egypt." In the text buwk(בּוּךְ) BeitKaf appears as nəḇuḵîm(נְבֻכִ֥ים) NunBeitKafYodMem suggesting this was a strategic route was taken to make the pharaoh think they were cornered and he had the military advantage. |
V4 The Pharaoh and his army were emboldened to attack with a vengeance and the Israelites became afraid. |
V5 "the heart(לְבַ֨ב)[2] of Pharaoh and of his servants" means that they were reacting from their the inner heart and mind(לְבַ֨ב)[2]. |
By V11 Moses has gone from hero to zero in the eyes of the people. |
V13 "Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not..." which is one of the most common commands in the Bible |
V14 "The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace." The people will not be able to kill their enemy but the enemy will kill themselves. |
While we are told to fear not we will see the LORD bring a fear to the wicked by they being troubled and destroyed in spirit and truth. "Hamam" with a double Mem (הָמַם)[3] first seen in Exodus 14:24 as the word troubled and again in Exodus 23:27 as destroy all the people by His fear and again in Deuteronomy 2:15 are just a few of the places this word hamam appears in scripture. |
V19 "the angel[4] of God" is the messenger of God. |
"Between camps" Matthew 25:32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth [his] sheep from the goats:
|
V22 and V29 "waters [were] a wall unto them" The word "wall" is chowmah[5] normally ChetVavMemHey (חוֹמָה) but we see in the text is ḥōmāh (חֹמָ֔ה) ChetMemHey. Did the water form vertical walls or was the water like a wall unto them? Did the sand get washed up to form a long sand bar above the water where the east wind dried it out so they could walk on it? Both accounts would seem to be miraculous although the special effects in the movie would be less spectacular without the vertical walls of water. |
V24 "troubled[3] the host of the Egyptians" The word troubled contains a double Mem. |
V25 "took off their chariot wheels" If the water was coming back in and the sand was becoming soft the wheels would have sunk in ruts. Removing would allow the chariots to slide on the mud and even hydroplane on the returning water. |
Note the order of the telling of the story from V25 through V29 is not linear. |
V30 "the LORD saved"[6] |
Other students of archaeology are Kevin Fisher, Ron Wyatt, David Rohl, Tim Mahoney and the Patterns of Evidence speak of the crossing at Nuweiba concerning the rout of Moses, the Red Sea crossing the rocks producing water. Mt Sinai in the land of Jethro[7] according to Josephus, "the highest mountain" near Abad and according to Phylos in Arabia[8]. Elijah's cave, the rock upon which the Golden calf[9] was set with carvings of the god of prosperity Horath. Also the sites of the water that flowed at Horeb where he was to strike the rock[10] and to speak to the rock[11] |
Corrals of uncut stone and altars of sacrifice to provide for the people who were in need in the voluntary freewill offerings in the wilderness are also found. These sacrifices were the essence of the worship of God in Pure Religion without the leaven of legal charity and the Corban of the pharisees which was in the systems of Cain, Nimrod, Sodom, and the bondage of Egypt. |
Believing in God is not believing in miracles of a God you choose to imagine but believing in a God of life and Creation and the Law of Nature that gives life and the power to choose over the gods of the masses who bite one another, covet one another's goods through public religion. |

Crossing the Red Sea
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
A strategic route
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, that they turn and encamp before Pihahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, over against Baalzephon: before it shall ye encamp by the sea.
3 For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They are entangled[1] in the land, the wilderness hath shut them in.
4 And I will harden(chazaq)[12] Pharaoh's heart(לְב)[13], that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured(kebed)[14] upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD. And they did so.
Heart turned against people
5 And it was told the king of Egypt that the people fled: and the heart(לְבַ֨ב)[2] of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned[15] against the people, and they said, Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?
6 And he made ready his chariot, and took his people with him:
7 And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over every one of them.
8 And the LORD hardened(chazaq)[12] the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel: and the children of Israel went out with an high hand.
9 But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baalzephon.
Sore afraid
10 And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD.
11 And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?
12 Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.
Fear not
13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
14 The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
Divide the sea
15 And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:
16 But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
17 And I, behold, I will harden(chazaq)[12] the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour(kebed)[14] upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.
18 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten me honour(kebed)[14] upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.
The messenger moved
19 And the angel[4] of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them:
20 And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.
Strong wind
21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
22 And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall[5] unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
Egyptians pursued
23 And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.
24 And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled[3] the host of the Egyptians,
Let us flee
25 And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily[16] : so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians.
26 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.
27 And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.
28 And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.
Waters as a wall
29 But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall[5] unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
The Lord saved
30 Thus the LORD saved[6] Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore.
31 And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.
