Put Out
Why were those who were baptised by Jesus's followers put out of the temple system of the Pharisees?
- "These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue." John 9:22
The word meaning put out of the synogogue is aposunagogos [2] and is composed of two words including sunagoge [3] meaning an assembly or congregation of the people.
A "synagogue" was not a building any more than a Church was a building. When someone was kicked out or"put out" of a synagogue they were actually put out not only their own local group or congregation of ten families but they were put out of an assembly of tens, hundreds and thousands through the entire system of social welfare of Judea was run.
Judea's governmental welfare system was centered around the temples set up by Herod. Those temples were government buildings providing services for the people.
These Jewish synagogues like the Roman system of hearths were centered around the temple in Jerusalem or the Temple of Roma and many other temples.
All of them were also government buildings providing what are often thought of as government services today. Even the Temples of Rome were government buildings back then through which the dainties and free bread were provided through the freewill offerings or forced sacrifice of people.
They were gathering places for religious purposes which included the Welfare systems at the time, since Religion was how you took care of the needy of your society.
The Welfare system set up by Herod to provide social welfare for the people was called Corban but it made the word of God to none effect because it depended on Benefactors who forced the contributions from the people in a system of Socialism.
Baptism and repentance
This system is what people were to Repent of when they got the Baptism of John.
The same was true with Jesus when he called the people to Repent and seek the Kingdom of God.
What John 9:22 is talking about was not just being put out of a church but being removed from that social welfare scheme of Herod that was making the word of God to none effect. To get the Baptism of Christ was to say you believe in The Way he preached. that Perfect law of liberty.
Baptism was a way of opting out after the Pharisees made this government ruling which we would see thousands doing at Pentecost.
We even see the same word aposunagogos in John 12:42[4] some of the chief rulers of the government who saw the error of their ways wanting to change the government back to what it once was before it became a socialist welfare state.
Jesus warns the Apostles in John 16:2[5] that this was going to happen to them if they followed Him and sought His government.
This being put out of that government was not much different than being put out of Egypt. It would be like setting the people free. That freedom or liberty was only for those who would practice Pure Religion of Christ with a Daily ministration of Charitable Practices instead of the Covetous Practices that had brought them into bondage.
Put out of Rome
Eventually 14,000 Jewish families were put out of Rome because the followed the Way.
- Acts 18:2 '"And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them.":
From a Christian point of view only Jews who followed The Way of Christ were true Jews. Those that opposed that way of righteousness were of the synogogues of the adversary, e.g. Satan.
- Revelation 2:9 "I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan."
This was all at the center of the Christian conflict with Rome and it's Public religion through the Imperial Cult of Rome.
If we are really followers of Christ then we need to be willing to understand the words of scripture like Religion, Pure Religion and what the were doing in temples in order to know what it means to repent and seek the Kingdom of God.

These were also used for trials and inflicting punishment.
