Verse 1 includes the word massa’ is from 05375 נָשָׂא NunShinAlef means to lift, bear up, carry, take. The term massa’ is translated burden 57 times but also exaction, carry away, and even tribute. |
We know that there is a burden to the word of the law,[1] |
Verse 10 is not talking about actual fire when it says "kindle fire on mine altar" because the altars was not about burning things up. |
The Sacrifices on the Altars of Clay and Stone were an allegory describing a social structure through freewill sacrifice to bind society through the practice of faith, hope and charity according to the perfect law of liberty through Practice of Pure Religion. |
If altars are not just piles of dead stone upon which we were to incinerate dead sheep then neither is kindle fire about burning stuff up. |
God will not accept an offering [2] at your hand not freely given. |
They had profaned[3] and polluted[4] |
Why? Because "ye brought [5] that which was torn [6]". The first place in the Bible we see the Hebrew word translated "torn"[7] is in Genesis 21:25 "violently taken away" and Genesis 31:31 "take by force". |
The terms lame[8] and sick[9] which we also see in verse 9 as "beseech" and really means, with the word lame, the weak or those compromised. |

The Lord's Love for Israel
1 The burden[10] of the word of the LORD to Israel by Malachi. 2 I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob, 3 And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness. 4 Whereas Edom saith, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath indignation for ever. 5 And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say, The LORD will be magnified from the border of Israel.
The Priests' Polluted Offerings
6 A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name? 7 Ye offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible.[11] 8 And if ye offer the blind[12] for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts. 9 And now, I pray you, beseech[9] God that he will be gracious unto us: this hath been by your means: will he regard your persons?[13] saith the LORD of hosts. 10 Who is there even among you that would shut the doors for nought? neither do ye kindle fire on mine altar for nought. I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering[2] at your hand. 11 For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered[14] unto my name, and a pure[15] offering:[2] for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts. 12 But ye have profaned[3] it, in that ye say, The table[16] of the LORD is polluted;[4] and the fruit[17] thereof, even his meat, is contemptible. 13 Ye said also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought that which was torn[6], and the lame,[8] and the sick;[9] thus ye brought an offering:[2] should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD. 14 But cursed be the deceiver, which hath in his flock[18] a male[19], and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the Lord a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and my name is dreadful among the heathen.

- Romans 11:8 "(According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day. 9 And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them: 10 Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway."
- 1 Corinthians 10:20 "But [I say], that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. 21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils." - 1 Peter 2:8 "And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, [even to them] which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. 14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:" (see merchandise)
