Firstborn

Exodus 12:29 And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh...

Numbers 3:2 And these [are] the names of the sons of Aaron; Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

The Kingdom of God has always been from generation to generation. In the Kingdom called Israel, God through Moses called out and set aside a certain group of people who were called Levites.^[1] They were the first born of the nations^[2] and they mostly came from the tribe of Levi.

This took place when the people were called out of the walled-in camp of the Golden calf by Moses, and most of those who came out were from one tribe. These people who came out first were separated^[3] from the main body of the nation in several ways, and for particular purposes.^[4]

By Jewish tradition, a Levite was a member of the Hebrew tribe of Levi, which became a unique part of a political structure with some limited "corporate elements"^[5] not seen in the rest of the government of Israel but used in the formation of a national community and society.
