Hosea 12
Comments |
The name Ephraim is sometimes a used name for the northern kingdom (Hosea or Isaiah). In Hosea 11:12 Hosea 11:12 "Ephraim compasseth me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the saints." |
Verse 1 and 2 "Ephraim feedeth on wind" which they reaped according to Hosea 8:7 "For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind:" This suggest a divine Karma resulting from our own deeds, As we judge so we are judged. |
V3 Hosea is saying this will apply to Judah and with Jacob who took his brothers heal "according to his ways; according to his doings" and contended with God so that he will suffer the recompense for those deeds. |
Now in Jacob's returning to his brother Esau after his years in debt to Laban has Jacob learned something? What has he learned during his dependence and debt to Laban? Faced with the fatal consequences in Genesis 32 he goes alone to pray, to weep in supplication and endures the message of the divine messenger. |
This word supplication is from the original chanan meaning to stoop in kindness showing grace[1] (ChetNunNun חָנַן)[2] but the word we see in the text is unique to this verse and 2 Kings 1:13 where the Captain begged for the life of fifty who he calls servants of "Elijah O man of God" . The Hebrew word is wayyiṯḥannen (VavYodTavChetNunNun וַיִּתְחַנֶּן־) and is translated "and sought favor". |
In his humility Jacob will receive the message of truth from God. This understanding will be essential to become true Israel. The knowledge he does not reject will lead him in the peculiar path to become true Israel. He does not war against his brother. He has learned something. What? |
His sons will take a path that will lead them into the bondage of Egypt before they can be come Israel. |
Those who seek to be Israel may be in need of repentance and seek The Way of righteousness through that same supplication as priests to all nations according to the way of Jacob which was the way of Christ before they can be Israel in Spirit and in Truth. |
The workers of iniquity were the lovers of the reward of unrighteousness who through covetous practices make merchandise of men and curse children and are devoured because they take a bite out of one another. |
Those who make a covenant with the Assyrians who are those men who offer benefits who call themselves benefactors but exercise authority one over the other go into the bondage of Egypt. |

Like FDR and LBJ and others verse 7 tells us "He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress." |
All those who sign up with them also love to oppress their neighbor rather tan love their neighbor as Moses and Christ commanded. |
Deuteronomy 17:16 But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way. |

Lies of the east wind
1 Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians,[3] and oil is carried into Egypt.
The Lord's Indictment of Israel and Judah
2 The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.
3 He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:[4]
4 Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spake with us;
5 Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial.
6 Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.
7 He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.
8 And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin.
9 And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.
10 I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.
11 Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.
12 And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.
13 And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.
14 Ephraim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return unto him.
