The Book of Habakkuk
The Book of Habakkuk is the eighth book of the 12 minor prophets of the Hebrew Bible.[1] It is attributed to the prophet Habakkuk, and was probably composed in the late 7th century BC.
Of the three chapters in the book, the first two are a dialog between Yahweh and the prophet. The central message, that "the just shall live by his faith" (2:4), plays an important role in Christian thought. It is used in the Epistle to the Romans:
- Romans 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.[1]
Epistle to the Galatians:
- Galatians 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, [it is] evident: for, The just shall live by faith.[2]
and the Epistle to the Hebrews:
- Hebrews 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if [any man] draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.[3]
So, are we starting at a point 13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.of the concept of faith like the early Church or have we degenerated int Pharisees and Sadducees and Zealots?
A copy of these chapters is included in the Habakkuk Commentary, found among the Dead Sea Scrolls. Chapter 3 may be an independent addition, now recognized as a liturgical piece, but was possibly written by the same author as chapters 1 and 2.

Summary of Habakkuk chapter 1
Though we cry out because of a burden of violence and iniquity God does not hear nor save us from the strife and contention.
The law is slacked, and judgment seems slow in coming because the wicked surrounds us with injustice because the people heard not the cries of their neighbor neglecting the weightier matters.
But the terrible and dreadful judgement will snare the people in captivity everywhere and grind the people into dust as they "deal treacherously" even when they "sacrifice unto their net".
They will serve the curse that snares them and the wicked surround the righteous because the people are snared by their appetite and serve the system that captures them until the nations are slain.
Summary of Habakkuk chapter 2
The faithful prophet goes into his high tower,[4] and listens to hear the LORD's will. He is to write it down and make clear and plain, "the just shall live by his faith". Nations will be spoiled[5] because they make a city of blood. The people will become "bootie", merchandise. They will be bitten because they "coveteth an evil covetousness" to set his nest on high. Many woes for those who make no room for the Lord in His Holy Temple.[6]
Summary of Habakkuk chapter 3
A prayer of Habakkuk is that he heard the LORD. And saw a brightness in the heavens with the authority of horns. Before that there was a pestilence, but also burning coals from his feet which effected the whole earth and the nations and people were scattered. But there were the horses[7] of salvation[8] and thy chariots[9] of salvation[10] that ran through these waves.
In the cause and effect of creation the earth is divided because oaths and the house of the wicked who devour the poor secretly.
The prayer is that I might rest in the day of trouble when there is no fruit and no meat so that I will rejoice in the LORD for the LORD God is my strength if I will sing the Song of the Lamb.
