Gentiles

The first place we see the word "gentiles" in the bible is Genesis 10:5 where it appears twice.[1] The first pace it is said to mean "Gentiles" and the second place it is translated "nations."

It is from the Hebrew word "gowy" [GamelVavYod ] [2] which is only translated "gentiles" 30 times but translated "nation" 374 times.

We see the same pattern of translating the same word different ways in the new Testament with the word [3] translated Gentiles 93 times, but nation 64 times.

We also see the Greek word "Hellen" translated "Greek" 20 times, and translated "gentile" 7 times.[4]

Jew, Gentile, Christian

In Acts 10:45 we see ethnos is used in a debate about the baptism of gentiles who are not circumcised Jews. What Baptism did they need and why?

Of course water baptism by John the Baptist or the disciples of Jesus was just an outward sign or ritual stating publicly that you were repenting [5] of the baptism of the Pharisees into their system of Corban which was making the word of God to none effect.

Why did it make the word of God to none effect?

This was because it was a snare[6] which brought people[7] back into a yoke of bondage where Herod could use his exercising authority[8] of the civil the government to force the contributions of his citizens who were registered members.

Did Gentiles need to be baptized with water if they already had the baptism of the Holy Spirit?

John said Jesus did not need baptism. Jesus did not need to be saved.

Matthew 3:14 "But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?"

First we need to understand what Baptism meant at that time.

The Church, consisted of the called out disciples who were appointed a kingdom by Christ[9]

They were given instructions to feed the sheep who heard the voice of Christ as their shepherd and followed the doctrine of Jesus.

That Church replaced the Corban of the Pharisees offered through the stone temple and government institutions that were making the word of God to none effect. That system of corban was degenerating the people because the legal charity offered at those tables, and the free bread offered by Rome, were fueled or funded by covetous practices the depended upon governments that exercise authority one over the other[8].

The ministers appointed by Christ and chosen by the people according to the perfect law of liberty were replacing that idolatress[10] system of the pharisees, many of the city states, and Rome with a daily ministration of Pure Religion which could be labeled the Corban of Christ.

That system of social welfare set the captive free because it was based on the righteousness of God and was providing a daily bread and social welfare through charity and love rather than the welfare of the world that was and is reliant upon force and violence.

Like Paul, David, and all the prophets have said the tables that should have been for your welfare was a snare[6] of entanglement.

Water baptism was only to bear witness but it could be a false witness. The baptism of Jesus was through the Holy Spirit by fire.

Jesus opposed that covetous practice and the use of force because it did not bear fruit, Peter opposed it because as a snare[6] it made the people human resources. Paul says that we should not eat of their tables and to do so is a form of idolatry.[10]

Nation

A nation is "a large body of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language". While, "It may inhabit a particular country or territory", there are nations who have such strong social bonds that they survive and even prosper without "inhabiting a particular country or territory". As an example, the "North American Indian people or confederation of peoples."

A nation is often a territory where all the people are led by the same government, but the word “nation” can also "refer to a group of people who share a history, traditions, culture and, often, language—even if the group does not have a country of its own."

1 Timothy 6:9 "But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and [into] many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."
  7. "The masses continue with an appetite for benefits and the habit of receiving them by way of a rule of force and violence. The people, having grown accustomed to feed at the expense of others and to depend for their livelihood on the property of others... institute the rule of violence; and now uniting their forces massacre, banish, and plunder, until they degenerate again into perfect savages and find once more a master and monarch." Polybius 150 years before Christ.
