Amos was a shepherd.
Amos 3 Summary
The people return to Egypt and the Levites who should belong to God but have their horns of the altar cut off, and fall to the ground. And the great houses shall have an end.

Again he states that the people were "brought up from the land of Egypt".
The reference to "one take up a snare. Has to do with Proverbs one purse systems of social welfare where rulers offer you deceitful meats and we are to put a knife to our throat and consent not and David and Paul warn us that what should have been for our welfare is actually a snare.
So is the "store up violence and robbery in their palaces" talking about those men who call themselves benefactors offering the wages of unrighteousness. So, it is those who love the wages of unrighteousness more than forgiveness who rob themselves of their own soul.
It is difficult to understand Amos if you do not understand the Altars of Clay and stone as well as the roll the Levites played in early Israel when they practiced pure religion instead of the public religion of the Pharisees who made the word of God to none effect with their Corban.
Those kings who offer those deceitful meat cause the people to error and return to the bondage of Egypt but the punishment will come and make them merchandise and curse children and calamity.
The people who say they believe in Jesus are not producing the fruit of the faithful. They are actually workers of iniquity.
It also might help to understand the Horns of the altar which have fallen from the Modern Church.
When an altar looses it shine it is because their Corban is making the word of God to non effect.
The Mountains[1] of Samaria[2] seems almost redundant since Samaria by itself means "watch mountain". It is from the word Shamar[3] to keep guard through observation as in keep watch like watchmen. Everywhere you see ShinMemReish it has something to do with sight, observation and being a watchmen. The word mountain appears in the text as hare (הָרֵ֣י) which appears several time in the Biblical text but is almost always translated "My mountain"[4]
V9 The palaces at Ashdod[5] is the palace of the powerful from shadad (שָׁדַד)[6] a verb meaning "to deal violently with, despoil, devastate, ruin, destroy, spoil"‎,[7] and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria. This is the same call for the people[8] to consent to one purse, to sit with rulers to eat their dainties. It is the call of Cain and Nimrod, and of course in our time it was the same call of FDR and LBJ. It is the call to an appetite of coveting[9] what was your neighbors for your own gain through men who exercise authority[10] over what should be your power of choice. It is a call to idolatry.[11]

Israel's Guilt and Punishment

1 ¶ Hear this word that the LORD hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family[12] which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying, 2 You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities. 3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed? 4 Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing? 5 Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is for him? shall one take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all? 6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it? 7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. 8 The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD hath spoken, who can but prophesy?

Assemble yourselves with the house of thieves

9 Publish in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great tumults in the midst thereof, and the oppressed in the midst thereof. 10 For they know not to do right, saith the LORD, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.

Weaken the people

11 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; An adversary there shall be even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be spoiled. 12 Thus saith the LORD; As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus in a couch.

House of Jacob

13 Hear ye, and testify in the house of Jacob, saith the Lord GOD, the God of hosts, 14 That in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel[13] upon him I will also visit the altars of Bethel: and the horns[14] of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground. 15 And I will smite the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall have an end, saith the LORD.

  7. Destroyers of liberty
    "That the man who first ruined the Roman people twas he who first gave them treats and gratuities. But this mischief crept secretly and gradually in, and did not openly make it's appearance in Rome for a considerable time." Plutarch's Life of Coriolanus (c. 100 AD.)
