V1 These words that were spoken include at least John 16 concerning the Expediency or profitability of Jesus departure to draw the Holy Spirit and the faithful together.
And also John 17 concerning those who remained in the name of God and did not become of the world. They became a part of the kingdom of God where in verse 2 Jesus and therefore His Holy Spirit were "given the power"[1] i.e. the governmental power and authority.
And where He proclaimed the logos of God which His [[Divine Will] and Right Reason.
V1 Cedron was a brook between the Mt Olives and the Dead Sea. The garden was according to Matthew 26:36, a garden of the estate of Gethsemane (the oil press). The owner must be conceived as being friendly to Jesus.
V2 Jesus often gathered.[2]
V3 Judas took in hand[3] a band[4] and officers[5] from the chief priests[6] and the elders who brought weapons and staves[7] which are mentioned in Matthew, Mark, and Luke.[8] of the Pharisees who came with weapons and staves[9].
V4 Jesus, knowing asked, Whom seek ye?
V5-6 I am he. and they fell backward to the ground.
V7 is a repeat of V4-5
V8 Jesus's repeating himself is so they will let these go their way:
V9 There are countless verses about the good shepherd protecting his flock. But how is God that protector?[10]
V10 Simon Peter smote the high priest’s servant.[11]Cite error: Closing </ref> missing for <ref> tag, and struck a servant of the high priest’s, and smote off his ear. 52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. 53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be? 55 In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. 56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.</Ref>
V11 Jesus said to Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath:... What does it mean "to live by the sword?"[12]
V12 The band[4] took Jesus, and bound him with those staves.[7]
V13 He was led away to Annas first; for it was he who was the power who had placed his son in law Caiaphas into the place high priest.
V14 It was expedient[13] that one man should die for the people.
V15 Who was the disciple known unto the high priest? Some think this is the Apostle John because he seems to speak of himself, in the third person. Others think it may be Nicodemus, or Joseph of Arimathea, or even the man who owned the house where Christ ate the Passover.
V16 That other disciple brought Peter inside.
V17 The women who kept the door asked Peter, "Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples?" and he denied Christ.
V18 The servants and officers would also ask the same.
V19 shifts to the high priest asking the disciples doctrine but this may not be real time.
V20 and V21 seem to be a common or stock reponse by Jesus, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing. Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.
V22 suggest a recording of an event where "officers" struck Jesus saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?
V23 Jesus states, "Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said." Natural Law cannot compel testimony against your self and Jewish law required witnesses to warrant a trial. And those witness become responsible for their testimony.
V24 Annas had sent Jesus to his son-in-law who was the highlriest.
V25-V27 returns us to Simon Peter by the fire where he denied Christ.
V28-V29 returns us to their attempt to judge Christ where they go from Caiaphas to the hall of judgment and Pilate avoiding this process because of passover and the violation of the law since Aristobulus.
V30 A malefactor[14] is considered an evil-doer but what are the elements of that evil? The accusation on two levels. One is the Christian conflict. But the reason Rome had to be involved was the charge of the claim to be king which again goes back to Aristobulus.[15]
V31 We have seen a portrayal of Pontius Pilate that may not be accurate based on what we read and other historical sources.
V32 (John 3:14;[16] John 12:32[17]; and Note on Matthew 20:19[18] rather than on the technical charge of blasphemy which required stoning according to the doctrines of the Pharisees like we see with Stephen (Comp. John 8:59;[19] John 10:31;[20] and Acts 7:51[21].
V36 Jesus words concerning this "world" saying Pilate's world as no jurisdiction.
V36-38 Pilate finds in Jesus "no fault at all".
V39-V40 But the corrupt government of the Pharisees which had been elected by people who were addicted to the free bread and legal charity of Herod and the Pharisees even though it was their sin of that Corban which included the leaven of those those covetous practices that brought them back into bondage again, seared their conscience, made them workers of iniquity and degenerated the masses.
V40 They cried for Barabbas who was "malfactor" although they say he was a "robber"[22]. The Greek word is lēstēs is translated as "an insurrectionist". "is a thief who also plunders and pillages – an unscrupulous marauder (malefactor), exploiting the vulnerable without hesitating to use violence." The Discovery Bible.
Was Jesus' kingdom at hand, on the planet, but just not of the world of Rome? Nor did it function like the government of the Pharisees with their system of Corban[23] which was a perversion of the qorban[24] of Moses.
The qorban of Moses was a of his own voluntary will [25]
The Corban of Herod and the Pharisees was compelled and collected by their Gabbai and the Mokhes minister who became publicans or the tax-gatherer for those Jewish citizen who chose to abandon the precepts of Moses for the covetous practices of Cain, Nimrod, with their Turtledove Goddess of Sumer which weaken the poor[26] and degenerate the masses.
Jesus' government returned to the people to a system of Social welfare funded by the Corban of love and mutual charity with grace and forgiveness[27] and His followers were told to not be like the governments that provide welfare through tables of governments that exercise authority.[28]
Did Jesus say he would take the kingdom from those who did not bear fruit?
Were they not bearing fruit because their Corban was not The Way?
Did Jesus say he would appoint a kingdom[29] to others who would bear fruit?
Did He appoint that kingdom of God?[29]
What did early Christians do that modern Christians fail to do which was the Christian conflict with Rome?

John 18

Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus

1 ¶ When Jesus had spoken these words[30], he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.

2 And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted[2] thither with his disciples.

3 Judas then, having received[3] a band[4] of men and officers[5] from the chief priests[6] and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.

Whom do you seek?

4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?

5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am[31] he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.

6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am[31] he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.

7 Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.

8 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am[31] he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:

9 That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none.

Peter strikes

10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.

11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?

Jesus Faces Annas and Caiaphas

12 Then the band[4] and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,

13 ¶ And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.

14 Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient[13] that one man should die for the people.

Peter Denies Jesus

15 And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.

16 But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.

17 Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He saith, I am not.

18 And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.

The High Priest Questions Jesus

19 The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.

20 Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.

21 Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.

22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?

23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?

24 Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.

Peter Denies Jesus Again

25 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.

26 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?

27 Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.

Jesus Before Pilate

28 ¶ Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.

29 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?

30 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor[14], we would not have delivered him up unto thee.

31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:[32]

32 That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die.

My Kingdom Is Not of This World

33 Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?[33]

34 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?

35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?

36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world[34]: if my kingdom were of this world[35], then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then?[33][36] Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth.[37] Every one that is of the truth[37] heareth my voice.

38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.

39 But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?

40 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber[22].

    1) chief priest, high priest
    • He above all others was honoured with the title of priest, the chief of priests. It was lawful for him to perform the common duties of the priesthood; but his chief duty was, once a year on the day of atonement, to enter into the Holy of Holies (from which the other priests were excluded) and offer sacrifices for his own sins and the sins of the people, and to preside over the Sanhedrin, or Supreme Council, when convened for judicial deliberations. According to Mosaic law, no one could aspire to the high priesthood unless he were of the tribe of Aaron and descended from a high priestly family; and he on whom the office was conferred held it till death. But from the time of Antiochus Epiphanes, when the kings of Seleucideae and afterwards the Herodian princes and the Romans arrogated to themselves the power of appointing the high priests, the office neither remained vested in the pontifical family nor was conferred on any for life; but it became venal, and could be transferred from one to another according to the will of civic or military rulers. Hence it came to pass, that during the one hundred and seven years intervening between Herod the Great and the destruction of the holy city, twenty-eight persons held the pontifical dignity.
    2) the high priests, these comprise in addition to one holding the high priestly office, both those who had previously discharged it and although disposed, continued to have great power in the State, as well as the members of the families from which high priest were created, provided that they had much influence in public affairs.

21 ¶ But do thou for me, O GOD the Lord, for thy name’s sake: because thy mercy [is] good, deliver thou me. 22 For I [am] poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me. 23 I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust. 24 My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness. 25 I became also a reproach unto them: [when] they looked upon me they shaked their heads. 26 Help me, O LORD my God: O save me according to thy mercy: 27 That they may know that this [is] thy hand; [that] thou, LORD, hast done it. 28 Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice. 29 Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle. 30 I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude. 31 For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save [him] from those that condemn his soul.

  26. The sin the Sodom
Genesis 18:20 "And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;..."
Genesis 13:13 “‭13 But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.”
Ezekiel 16:49 "Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy."
Genesis 14:21-23 "And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself. 22 And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth, 23 That I will not [take] from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that [is] thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:
Deuteronomy 32:31-33 “‭31 For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges. ‭32 For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah: their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitter: ‭33 Their wine is the poison of dragons, and the cruel venom of asps.”
Isaiah 1:9-19 “‭9 Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah. ‭10 Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah. ‭11 To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats. ‭12 When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts? ‭13 Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting. 14 Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them. ‭15 And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood. ‭16 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; ‭17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. ‭18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. ‭19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:”
Isaiah 3:8-9 “‭8 For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the LORD, to provoke the eyes of his glory. ‭9 The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.”
Jeremiah 23:14 “‭14 I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.”
Lamentations 4:5-10 “‭5 They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills. ‭6 For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her. ‭7 Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire: ‭8 Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick. ‭9 They that be slain with the sword are better than they that be slain with hunger: for these pine away, stricken through for want of the fruits of the field. ‭10 The hands of the pitiful women have sodden their own children: they were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people.”
Jude 1:7-8 “‭7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. ‭8 Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.”
  27. “‭5 So he called every one of his lord’s debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord? ‭6 And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty.” Luke 16:5-6
Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

  31. 31.0 31.1 31.2 ==The I AM == We know we exist because we think but what is the source of our thinking? What guides or leads our thoughts? Is it really the Empirical knowledge through our sense as we perceived the world or is there a connection to that which is the unmoved mover that moved upon the waters of creation or the formation of what we perceive as the universe? Is there a meaning found in the allegory of the two trees where that ancient and naked couple fled the light into the darkness of the world? Is it that light of the I AM that reveals the truths of I am in our own hearts and minds if we have the humility to see our own nakedness?

    Reference I am

    Exodus 3:14 "And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. ";
John 8:24 “I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.” (present tense)
John 8:28 “‭Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.” (future tense)
John 8:58 “‭Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.” (past tense)

Jesus honoured, which is to magnify the Creator, rather than himself.

John 8:54 "Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:"

The Creator is the Father who gives life. To take life is contrary to the Logos of the I am The I am is the preexisting breath of the Creator of the Divine Will. Jesus was one with the logos of the "I am" of God made flesh.

The people did not know the God that gave them life because the did not want to see themself in the light of His truth. Jesus brought the light and those that hated the light hated Him.

John 8:55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.

Many may think they are born again but they do not love the light. They say Lord, Lord but are under a strong delusion and invent the doctrines of men so they may remain in darkness and in denial about the true Logos of God.

John 9:9;“‭Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.”
John 10:9 “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”
John 13:19 “Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.”
John 14 “‭3 ... where I am, there ye may be also. ‭4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. ‭5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? ‭6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way(Egō eimi hē hodos), the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me(emou)... ‭9 ... Shew us the Father? ‭10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? ... but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. ‭11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: ... 21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.”
