Two commandments

When asked what is the greatest commandment.[1]

"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."Matthew 22:37

People think they love everyone because they say they do. It is true that loving others is loving GOD. But do we really love others?

Do we take care of one another through faith, hope, and charity like the Early Christians did?

Do we care for the widows and orphans of our community through charity or through the "public religion" of the world like Rome and other pagans.

Do we know people love the Lord because they say they love the Lord or because they keep the commandments?

If we are not keeping the commandments like not coveting our neighbor's goods through the rulers of the world who exercise authority then we are not doing what Jesus said to do.

If we are not doing what he said nor living the way he said to live then we are not His followers.

Do people really love their neighbor as themselves?

What are they doing daily?

Where is their daily ministration?

There are a number of quotes from the Bible[2] that suggests that just because we say we love our neighbor and love God that those words do not make it so.

People imagine that confessing the lord with their mouth overcomes their works of iniquity. Jesus makes it clear that if you love Him you will keep the commandments.[2]

If they are coveting their neighbor's goods through men who exercise authority they neither love God nor their neighbor. If they desire or excuse their appetite for benefits at the expense of their neighbor through a social safety net of legal charity then they do not keep the commandments.[2]

Those benefits derived by force are not derived by love. They are the wages of unrighteousness, the dainties of rulers, the free bread of Caesar served at the tables of idolatry which is covetousness.[3]

If they are borrowing against the future to buy the benefit today they curse children and will become merchandise.

It is true that we are saved by grace but it is also true that Jesús said many would be told to get ye from him because they are workers of iniquity.

We are told that "many" will think they are saved and doing things in the name of Christ but are actually workers of iniquity. The law that was done away with was the interpretation of the teachings of Moses as the Pharisees saw him.

They were wrong.

The problem today is that many people who think they are Christians are not doing what Christ said but are doing what he said not to do. They are under a "strong delusion".

To day the daily ministration of the modern Christian is the welfare state and the Corban that Jesus said made the word of God to none effect. Their daily bread is not served on tables of charity but are the dainties of the table Paul said we should not eat because it is a snare.

Christ died that we "might be saved".

Footnotes

  1. Matthew 22:36 Master, which [is] the great commandment in the law?
  2. 2.0 2.1 2.2 Love God and neighbor
Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. 24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:... 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
Matthew 19:17 "And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? [there is] none good but one, [that is], God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments."
John 14:15 "If ye love me, keep my commandments."
John 14:21 "He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him."
John 15:10 "If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love."
Luke 6:47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:...49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
Luke 7:8 For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth [it].
John 3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Titus 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny [him], being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
James 1:23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
James 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
James 3:13 Who [is] a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
Revelation 2:2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
Revelation 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
  3. Covetousness is idolatry
Colossians 3:5 "Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:"
Ephesians 5:5 "For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God."
1 Corinthians 5:10 "Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. 11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat."
