Calendar psychosis
I have never fully pursued the Calendar issue.
- Calendars fall into three types, lunisolar, solar and lunar, besides calendars with "years" of fixed length, with no intercalation. Most pre-modern calendars are lunisolar. The Islamic and some Buddhist calendars are lunar, while most modern calendars are solar, based on either the Julian or the Gregorian calendars.
There can be sub-types like the Sidereal solar calendars that also uses the stars and constellations of the Zodiac.
When the sun is reckoned with the equinox and the crossing of the celestial equator the seasons are synchronized with the declination of the sun. That calendar is called a tropical solar calendar.
Gregorian, Julian, Coptic calendars fall in this category. A typical lunisolar calendar has a year made up of a whole number of lunar months, it can't indicate the position of Earth on its revolution around the sun as well as a pure solar calendar can.
The Islamic calendar is a purely lunar calendar and some Jews like the Pharisees used lunar calendars. Today some Christians and of course messianic Jews are beginning to use the Lunar calendar. It sets them a part and gives them a sense of identity and a feeling of separation from the world.
The truth early Israel used all these calendars. They were great navigators as the sea kings but to determine feasts they used the Lunar calendar so they would have the benefit of a full moon on the way to and at the festivals.
Before there were clocks and cell phones along with global communication at our finger tips, before we harnessed electricity with lighting on every street and laced our civilization with highways and rails and traveled through the air the idea of meeting when the moon was full was practical and had a viable purpose.
Even into the 15 and sixteenth century it was common for Ten Tithingmen, a Hundredsman, and a clerk of the Kingdom of God, a clergyman of the Church, often met on the full moon at the time of the filling of the butts. The "filling of the butts" referred to target practice with their bows and arrows. The full moon, marking the time of the meeting, aided all in returning home when the meetings ran late. This intimate group derived from the Tens set a gathering of twelve men that was the foundation of the national government.
The phases of the moon allowed for a natural time keeper visible to all to assist the people in gathering at the most practical time.
So why do people latch on to odd calendars?
- psychosis is from the Greek word psukhōsis ‘animation,’ from psukhoun ‘give life to,’ frompsukhē ‘soul, mind.’
- It is defined as "a severe mental disorder in which thought and emotions are so impaired that contact is lost with external reality."
People often unmoor the purpose of what God was telling us through Moses and Jesus so that they may feel justified in the practice of some ritual and avoid the burden of seeking true righteousness.
They may be simply ignorant of the real purpose of these rituals and ceremonies but when they hear about the real Corban of the prophets of God before the Pharisees twisted it, when they understand why there were Freewill offerings and a Daily ministration through Pure Religion and the Perfect law of liberty and accept in their hearts and minds what and how the governments of God fed the sheep of that God of creation and life it should awaken them to that true purpose of Christ and His government.
The only reason they used a lunar calendar was to help the people gather on feast days for the purposes of establishing and renewing a network of social charity that provided a daily ministration throughout the nation.
All these rituals had a purpose that provided for society in a certain way that would bind the people by love instead of force and contracts as the other governments of the world commonly do.
Even the Sabbath was not a day as much as it was a way...
We are to be separate but that separation should be based on our love for one another and not on symbolic Rituals and ceremonies that have been unmoored from their purpose in a personal quest for self-righteousness rather than the righteousness of God and his Kingdom of Love.
If you think you are following the prophets with your feasts and calendars I must ask
Where is your religion
- Where do you find the Daily ministration of the early Church, the Pure Religion of James and the Corban of Jesus?
- Are you following The Blessed Strategy of Christ like the Early Christians?
- Are you following The Way through Love of one another or the way of the world and the Fathers of the earth?
- Do you seek the benefits of bankrupt nations, or do you forgive and seek the benefits of Christ's appointed Kingdom?
- Do you only gather for the comfort it gives you, or do you gather to benefit others?
- Christ came to serve, not be served. Do you desire to be served, or are you coming in His name and according to His character to serve others?
If we desire His Grace but we only love those who love us, then there is no Grace because it is clear we do not really believe in Him.
If we do not Repent of our Covetous Practices and are not diligently gathering together in Free Assemblies of Love for all to provide for one another in Charity according to the Perfect law of liberty then we have nothing according to Paul. According to Luke 6:32 if we only love those who love us there is no "Grace". Christ also said if you do not Forgive neither will the Father forgive you.[2]
It is not enough to hate the deeds of the workers of iniquity, but we must return to Thy first love and thy first work. To break the yoke, we need to return to the ways of righteousness spoken of in Isaiah 58 which are the ways of Christ and the early Church. And His yoke is light for it is carried by our love of one another.
Abraham, Moses, John the Baptist and Christ all created Networks of charity to care for the true needy of society without force which is how they were able to help set people free. Do you gather with His Church to attend to the Weightier matters as Christ said?
- Are you gathering in a Network of righteousness?
- Do you come to love others or just be loved?
- Are your Congregations' gatherings fruitful enough so that no one has to pray to Benefactors who exercise authority one over the other?
- Does anyone in your Free Assemblies have to apply to the Fathers of the earth, or seek their many benefits?
Early Christians found themselves in conflict with these systems of social welfare because they made the word of God to none effect. Christians had repented of their covetous nature when they received the Baptism of Christ. They heard and became Doers of the word not hearers only.
Remember Proverbs 12:24, "The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the Slothful shall be under Tribute."
We know that liberty under God is not for the covetous who are Biting one another but it is also not for the slothful. If we are not congregating together in free assemblies bound together in a broad network by faith, hope, and charity alone according to the perfect law of liberty then we are not truly seeking the Kingdom of God nor His righteousness..
Calendars of men
One Hebrew calendar is said to be a combined solar/lunar calendar, in that it strives to have its years coincide with the tropical year and its months coincide with the synodic months. This is a complicated goal, and the rules for the Hebrew calendar are correspondingly complex.
Some of these rules were set down by the Sanhedrin president Hillel II in approximately AD 359 but the original details of his calendar conclusions are uncertain. The question of what day it is or which calendar to use has plagued man more than the catastrophic events of his known and unknown history.
Besides the era of Noah's flood there is evidence that around the eighth century BC something happened that affected the measurement of times and seasons. Something was changing the relationship of the earth and the heavens that forced men to rethink their calendars.
- "Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods. But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage? Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain." Galatians 4:8-11
Whenever people speak of the calendars of men I am afraid for them.
Why is your calendar so important?
Men may say they seek to know the calendar of God but it is often their opinion that is worshiped and to the God of creation.
Why is it not their walk with the Holy Spirit and the will of God not foremost in their lives?
Do you think there is anything that you do in your flesh that justifies you in itself.
To put your faith in your ability to calculate the days of God or His will by the counting of days is vanity. To put your trust in the opinions of men about how to count the days of the heavens from the earth is idolatry.
The calendar is a tool but giving and forgiving is a talent granted by God Himself. Do not neglect the talent of the LORD in search for the tools of men.
If you be observers of days, and months, and times, and years do not let it tear you apart or divide you as a people but only use it so that you may come together as you walk with the leading of the spirit. Take no pride in your calculations by moon or sun or the stars but seek to know God in your hearts and minds by walking in the service and forgiveness of Christ Jesus.
