In the Bible we see the word soul translated from the word ''nephesh''<Ref>{{05315}}</Ref> which is from the same [[Hebrew]] letters [[05314|NunPeiShin]] meaning to "take a breath". The Nun has to do with the "Heir to the Throne" while the Pei is about "Communication" through the breath ending with the Shin or "Eternal Flame of Revelation bound to the Divine Essence".

To the Greeks the soul was the psyche or "psyühē", of "psychein" meaning "to breathe" which included mental abilities of a living being such as reason, character, feeling, consciousness, memory, perception, thinking, etc.

Plato, Socrates,  and Aristotle, saw the soul (ψυχή psūchê) as have a logical and divine faculty effecting human actions. Some  considered this soulful essence to be an incorporeal and eternal occupant of our corporeal being and even live on beyond the death of the body.

Almost every culture believes in a soul that connects us with if not determines our fate in an after life. While The soul (psyche) is often considered distinct from the body (soma) that distinction is less when it comes to the idea of a spirit (pneuma) which is often used interchangeably.

Augustine described the soul as "a special substance, endowed with reason, adapted to rule the body". in  Matthew 10:28 we see the words of Jesus saying "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." The word destroy can simply mean "to devote or give over" and hell or ''geenna''<Ref>{{1067}}</Ref> being an undesirable  juridical place of decay and filth, the opposite of heaven where life comes from.
It is sometimes said to be different than the spirit, which is often relegated to being a mediator between body and soul. The spirit, which is considered more transitory, may manifest the nature of the soul which is considered immortal like energy itself.

The Hebrew word ''nephesh''<Ref name=nephesh></Ref> in the Bible refers to a living, breathing conscious body, which would include both the corporeal and incorporeal hereditaments of a given personality rather than the immortality of the soul.

We should note that both words for ''Soul'' are also translated ''life''.

What is the mind, the soul and how are they used in the quest for right reason and righteousness? What are some questions concerning terms used in the Bible?

Soul defined

The term soul can be defined as:

1. The spiritual or immaterial part of a human being or animal, regarded as immortal.

It is sometimes said to be different than the spirit, which is often relegated to being a mediator between body and soul. The spirit, which is considered more transitory, may manifest the nature of the soul which is considered immortal like energy itself.

The Hebrew word nephesh[1] in the Bible refers to a living, breathing conscious body, which would include both the corporeal and incorporeal hereditaments of a given personality rather than the immortality of the soul.

In the Greek Septuagint the term psyche[2] is used to translate each instance of nephesh.

Soul

The soul can also be defined as the essence or embodiment of the specified quality of a man.

Yes in the Bible we see the word soul translated from the word nephesh[1] which is translated soul" but also "life, person, mind, heart and numerous other ways. The root word nephesh[1] is from the same Hebrew letters NunPeiShin meaning to "take a breath". The Nun has to do with the "Heir to the Throne" while the Pei is about "Communication" through the breath ending with the Shin or "Eternal Flame of Revelation bound to the Divine Essence".

If the soul is separated from that "eternal flame" like our separation from the tree of life then the corporeal and incorporeal hereditaments may be altered.

To the Greeks the soul was the psyche or "psyühē", of "psychein" meaning "to breathe" which included mental abilities of a living being such as reason, character, feeling, consciousness, memory, perception, thinking, etc.

Plato, Socrates, and Aristotle saw the soul (ψυχή psūchê)[2] as a logical and divine faculty affecting human actions. The Stoics held that the soul consists of eight parts.[3] In addition to the eight parts of the soul, the human hêgemonikon, a faculty of the mind, itself was characterized by four basic powers: presentation [phantasia],[4] impulse [hormê],[5] assent [sugkatathesis],[6] and reason (logos). Some considered this soulful essence to be an incorporeal and eternal occupant of our corporeal being and even live on beyond the death of the body.

Aristotle saw the soul as having three defining capacities:

  1. Nutritive soul or common to all life,
  2. Sensitive soul or perception which is essential to pursue or even consume nutrition, and
  3. Rational soul or the intellect (human beings).

We should note that both words for Soul are also translated life.

Aristotle also addresses the 5 powers of soul in his De Anima where he begins by speaking of “psychic” powers, or the powers of the soul.

His division of these five powers of the soul include:

  1. Nutritive,
  2. Appetitive,
  3. Sensory,
  4. Locomotive, and
  5. Mind (power of thinking).

But there is another word for life which we see in the phrase "the tree of life" [7] That word is from completely different Hebrew letters ChetYodHey meaning something different than the word for soul NunPeiShin.

  • "But flesh with the life (soul) thereof, [which is] the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. And surely your blood of your lives(soul) will I require; at the hand of every beast (life) will I require it, and at the hand of man(adam); at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life <05315> of man(adam)." Genesis 9:4-5

Almost every culture believes in a soul that connects us with if not determines our fate in this life and even afterlife or eternal life.

  • "And he said, Bring [it] near to me, and I will eat of my son’s venison, that my soul may bless thee. And he brought [it] near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him wine, and he drank." Genesis 27:25

What you do may bless your soul in this world and in the next and even bless others.

  • "The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked." Proverbs 10:3

The same word for bless is also translated curse because what is a blessing and curse is often relative. But what you think will bless you may curse you because of the realm from which your soul draws its pattern.

  • "The enemy (Pharaoh) said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust (soul) shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them." Exodus 15:9

While The soul (psyche) is often considered distinct from the body (soma) that distinction is less when it comes to the idea of a spirit (pneuma) which is often used interchangeably.

Augustine described the soul as "a special substance, endowed with reason, adapted to rule the body". In Matthew 10:28 we see the words of Jesus saying "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." The word destroy can simply mean "to devote or give over" and hell or geenna[8] being an undesirable juridical place of decay and filth, the opposite of heaven where life comes from.

Physicists like Sean M. Carroll thinking that the idea of a soul is in opposition to quantum field theory (QFT) so that for a soul to exist "Not only is new physics required, but dramatically new physics. But if the soul is extradimensional there is no need for a collection of 'spirit particles' nor physical 'spirit forces'.

The answer to Quantum indeterminacy may be outside the reach of our scientific dipstick. Scientists know, or imagine they know, that there are other dimensions parallel to our own because they see evidence of energy coming and going into our own dimension but only theorize or imagine there must be another place it is coming from.

  • In quantum mechanics there may be multiple parallel dimensions. There may be an ability to tap into those dimensions or realms through the divine spark of the soul. If the soul's choice denies the light of one realm it may be drawn to the darkness of another realm dragging with it the spirit and body which is one of the Mysteries of the Universe.

More and more scientific observation of the complexity of the universe and life itself are statistically proving that random design is less likely than intelligent design. If there is intelligent design then we must ask how is that design projected into this dimension where in our corporeal reality resides and observes its existence?

Ray Charles who looked at the world with a blind man's eyes asked and answered, "What is a soul? It's like electricity - we don't really know what it is, but it's a force that can light a room." Electricity is not so much a particle but an energy resulting from the existence of charged particles. Are those parallel dimensions charged with an identity of their own?

Is there incorporeal pattern of existence charging the veil of these walled in realm? As our corporeal being presses against or merely approaches the veil of one realm or another we absorb the character of the realm our soul chooses or are tempted to be drawn toward.

Marcus Aurelius who persecuted early Christians believed that "The soul becomes dyed with the color of its thoughts." But it is more likely the choices of the soul actually color our thoughts and therefore our corporeal reality. That evidently seemed reasonable to Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein who said "After all as the human body is the best picture of the human soul." The same could be said of the collective soul of society.

  • Princes made violence a physical thing, but today’s democratic republics have made it as intellectual as the human will it seeks to coerce. What can we see when we seek to peer into the soul, especially our own soul? Has our soul been changed and our mind altered? What is the natural pattern of the mind of man, what was he meant to be?

  • "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth." Genesis 1:26

The mind of man has been traumatized by his sin and his pride. Trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience which may interrupt the natural physical or mental processes of an individual or group of individuals.

If sin and denial are a part of the process of dividing man from God is there a way back?

  • Individuation is a process of transformation whereby the personal and collective unconscious are brought into consciousness (e.g., by means of dreams, active imagination, or free association) to be assimilated into the whole personality.

Individuation is a completely natural process necessary for the integration of the whole psyche. Everything we do not desire to see is archived away in what we call the subconscious. The subconscious is "or concerning the part of the mind of which one is not fully aware but which influences one's actions and feelings" and "the subconscious part of the mind where unconscious is preferred.".

Sloth is a waste of the time that God has loaned to man. Greed, wantonness, lasciviousness are trauma to the mind of God and distorts the original image of man to a less than desirable nature than he was meant to have. It divides man from his creator.

  • "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:32

The truth about ourselves down to the bottom of our heart and soul will set us free from the chains of our trauma. But trauma is not merely abuse of us by others but neglect of righteousness.

  • "And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?" Luke 12:19-20

God hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans and the error of Balaam. Those covetous practice lead men away from God and disconnect their very soul from the realm of God. It makes fairly good men workers of iniquity through covetous practices which repels them from the presence of God.

So what is true and what is not true?

An axiom a statement or proposition that is regarded as being established, accepted, or self-evidently true.

Many people believe that things are true that are not true. Their mind is filled with falsehoods that they believe to be axioms of truth.

  • "And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and [toward] men." Acts 24:16
If I poke you in your axiom do you not bleed?
If so your axiom is mortal then it is not the truth of God....
  • "For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." Matthew 6:14-15

The word translated trespasses is also translated offence. This idea of forgiving trespasses or offences is essential to being forgiven. It is our unwillingness to forgive others and ourselves that keeps us from the forgiveness and grace of God. In order to forgive we must be willing to see our unforgiveness.

The Individuation of the mind of man with the mind of God is found in the process of repentance which will include active giving and forgiving in truth.

  • "And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness." 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12
