Communion is by modern definitions "the sharing or exchanging of intimate thoughts and feelings, especially when the exchange is on a mental or spiritual level." or "the service of Christian worship at which bread and wine are consecrated and shared."

We see the word appear three time in the King James Bible.

  • 1 Corinthians 10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?
  • 2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
  • 2 Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen. « The second epistle to the Corinthians was written from Philippi, a city of Macedonia, by Titus and Lucas. »

The word n the Greek text is koinonia κοινωνία [1] and it is not always translated communion.

It is more often translated "fellowship":

Acts 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship <koinonia>, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
1 Corinthians 1:9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship <koinonia> of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
2 Corinthians 8:4 Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship <koinonia> of the ministering to the saints.
Galatians 2:9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship <koinonia>; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.
Ephesians 3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship <koinonia> of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
Philippians 1:5 For your fellowship <koinonia> in the gospel from the first day until now;
Philippians 2:1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship <koinonia> of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,
Philippians 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship <koinonia> of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
1 John 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship <2842> with us: and truly our fellowship <koinonia> is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
1 John 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship <koinonia> with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship <koinonia> one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

We also see it translated in the form of the word "communicate " at least twice:

Philemon 1:6 That the communication <2842> of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.
Hebrews 13:16 But to do good and to communicate <2842> forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

What is being communicated?

One clue is that it is also translated "contribution" and "distribution".

Romans 15:26 For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution <koinonia> for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem.
2 Corinthians 9:13 Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution <koinonia> unto them, and unto all men;

There is little or no fellowship, communication, contribution or distribution in placing a crumb or wafer of bread upon the tongue of an individual. There is a spiritual gift of awakening and salvation in the real communion of Christ.

Jesus made it clear that i you do not forgive neither will His father forgive you. The truth is that f you do not give life to other neither will the father give life to you. People are not coming in the name of Christ if they are not coming to serve and save others. The kingdom is not in the hearts of people who are not sacrificing daily in a genuine effort to seek a Kingdom of God with a righteous fellowship and communion.

In more ancient times that sharing of bread was not merely a token communion but the the actual performance of a duty to our fellowman and God. The welfare of society in time of mutual or individual need was the practice of Religion before the definition of the word Religion was changed. The Eucharist and Corban of the early Church was the welfare of their society and community.

Christian fellowship was not just a "friendly association, especially with people who share one's interests." or showed up at your Church building professing the same ideas about God which has become the new self-serving definition of Religion.

To "drink the blood of Christ and to eat His body" is to eat of the Lord's supper and the LORD's benefits provided by faith, hope and charity in a network of believers who gather in the perfect law of liberty in a communion of charity rather than the benefits and rewards of Benefactors who exercise authority and the Fathers of the earth which offer the welfare of the world which is a snare.

If people are not freely giving and receiving in a Daily ministration provided by the freewill sacrifices of the congregations can thy really be the "us" Paul i talking to?

Who are the peculiar people that are truly seeking the Kingdom of God and His righteousness?

Who are the people in a real Christian fellowship and participating in the communion of Christ?

Those who may enjoy the Eucharist of Christ are also setting the table of the LORD by giving in the NAME of Christ.

If there is no communion that serve the needs of the people there is no congregation of God... without communion there is no fellowship or communion but only wafers of delusion but there can be the hope of congregations.

If the people are not gathering and providing and supporting one another in a networking body of mutual love and care in such a supper of righteous benefits then they have need of repentance.
