The term Joshua appears some 196 times and consists of the Hebrew letters YodHeyVavShinVavAyin.[1] 17 times it appears as wî·hō·wō·šu·a‘ VavYodHeyVavShinAyin[2] suggesting the meaning "and Joshua" and 4 times as lî·hō·wō·šu·a‘ LamedYodHeyVavShinAyin [3] suggesting the meaning that something was told or given "to Joshua". One time it appears as bî·hō·wō·šu·a‘ BeitYodHeyVavShinAyin in Zechariah 3:6 "And the angel of the LORD protested unto Joshua, saying,".
Joshua was one of the twelve spies of Israel sent by Moses to explore the land of Canaan. After the death of Moses, he led the Israelite tribes into Canaan some time in the Bronze Age died at the age of 110.
