The word "sacred" descends from the Latin sacrum, which referred to anything in the power of or consecrated to God or the gods or within their power or the power of those who belong to God such as the Levites or ordained ministers of the Church established by God through Christ. It is also related to sacerdos and sanctum, set apart.
It was generally conceived spatially, as referring to an area, temple, rather than a building. The Temples and altars were meant to help manage the welfare of Society to bring the people together in a practical way through charity and honor.
