Celebrate? Are we "here for the party..." or the righteousness of God? If you want to Celebrate the Feasts you need to find out what the word Celebrate in the Bible means.


We see the word "celebrate" three times in the King James Bible.

In the English language the word celebrate is defined "publicly acknowledge (a significant or happy day or event) with a social gathering or enjoyable activity." Each of the three appearances of the word celebrate in the Bible is actually translated from a different word which mean something more especially in context.

The first place we see it is in Leviticus 23:32 "It [shall be] unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth [day] of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath."

Here the term is in reference to the Sabbath. The Sabbath is a way not a day. The Sabbath is about working 6 days and then taking your rest as opposed to taking your rest and then owing 6 days of labor. The Sabbath is about avoiding debt.

So how should you celebrate your sabbath?

The word celebrate in this verse is from the Hebrew word that is actually shabath.[1]

Yes, the Hebrew word there is composed of the letters ShemBeitTav (תבשׁ) just like the word Sabbath but it has a different Strongs number (07673) and is never translated Sabbath.

The Masoretic Text says that the Hebrew text of verse 32 should look like this.
23:32 שַׁבַּת שַׁבָּתֹון הוּא לָכֶם וְעִנִּיתֶם אֶת־נַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶם בְּתִשְׁעָה לַחֹדֶשׁ בָּעֶרֶב מֵעֶרֶב עַד־עֶרֶב תִּשְׁבְּתוּ שַׁבַּתְּכֶֽם׃ פ

Second appearance of Celebrate

Leviticus 23:41 "And ye shall keep it a feast unto the LORD seven days in the year. [It shall be] a statute for ever in your generations: ye shall celebrate it in the seventh month."

Here the word "celebrate" is from the Hebrew word chagag[3] which is connected to the idea of keeping or holding a festival but also translated dancing, holyday, and even reel to and fro.

It is a root word containing the letters ChetGimelGimel which have meanings.

The letter CHET has to do with the Life Force which is the dynamic nature of living and giving life. While the letter Gimel has to do with Reward or Punish. It really has to do with Cause and effect or the principle of doing unto others as you would have them do unto you.

The use of two Gimels emphasizes this idea as reciprocating and gives us a message of hope and charity. the Gimel is written like a Vav with a Yod as a "foot", and it resembles a person in motion; symbolically, a rich man running after a poor man to give him charity, as in the Hebrew alphabet gimel directly precedes dalet, which signifies a poor or lowly man, from the Hebrew word dal.

Celebrate the Feasts and Festival of a free society

The Feasts are not a party only. To Celebrate the Feasts those that have should be sharing with those that may need help. Love feasts are feasts of charity and since it is better to give and serve than it is to receive and be served, as Christ said, then to celebrate the feasts is done best by those who give the most.

If your Festivals are not about how much you can bring to the Ministers of the kingdom then you are not Keeping the Feasts no matter how much fun you have or where the moon is at.

The last place we see Celebrate

Isaiah 38:18 "For the grave cannot praise thee, death can [not] celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth."

The word here is halal[4] which appears over a hundred and sixty times in the Bible but only translated Celebrate once. Normally it is translated praise but also mad, boast and foolish on occasion.

It eventually produced the Greek word allelouia[5] which is seen as alleluia in the text.

Throughout the text the word halal is used to describe all sorts of praise from a word that can mean to shine or light one gives off. The letters HeyLamedLamed tell us something about its meaning.

The letter HEI is something that Expresses Thought including Speech and Action while the letter LAMED means an Aspiration of the Heart. The two Lameds in a row is an expression of the works of your hands which has done the work of the heart in praise.

To Celebrate in this sense is about something being or already done. If it is not done then there was no celebration only talk without action.
