In the New Testament
In the New Testament the Greek word charis [2] from which we get the English word charity is translated grace but also translated favour[3], thanks[4] and even pleasure[5].
It says in Luke 6:32 "For if ye love them which love you, what thank <grace> have ye? for sinners also love those that love them."
What is being asked is what "grace" do we have if we only love those who love us. The truth is there is no grace if we do not love those who may not love us. This is why Forgiveness is so important.
Grace and forgiveness
One of the words we see translated forgive is χαρίζομαι charizomai[6] which contains the Greek word Charis.
Grace is often granted because we show grace to others and condemnation may come when we fail to show true grace to others. We see this in several parables of Christ, including the parable of the servant who had been given grace for the asking but failed to give grace to others.[7]
It should be absolutely clear to Modern Christians that if you are not forgiving, then you are not forgiven.[8]
And then there was the servant who merely failed to act upon that which he was given; he not only had it taken away but was cast into darkness.[9]
We are saved by grace, but that grace comes through faith. [1] And Faith is more than thought and words or foolish imaginations.
If you have repented and Christ is in you, loving others whether or not they love you is easy. You can do nothing else. It is not about works, but it is the manifestation of the fruit of your repentance.
How do you love those who do not love you?
One way is to cast your bread upon the water.[10] There are two ways to do this. The waters in prophecy often represent the people in general.
God's kingdom of heaven is within you, as Christ should be in you.[11] But if Christ is in you, then you should be acting in accordance with His name. He came to serve, so you should be serving others as if you loved them as much as your self.
The kingdom is from generation to generation, too.[12] It is not just within you, but also within others. So each family coming together[13] shall manifest the kingdom of God with the testimony of what is in their heart. And so, the second way of casting the bread upon the waters casts it specifically to the children (both children in families and children in the kingdom of heaven) and to the hungry, in contrast to casting it randomly to all people.
Matthew 15:26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table. 28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
Luke 17:33 Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.
Mark 7:27 But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it unto the dogs. 28 And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs. 29 And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter. 30 And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.
Isaiah 58:7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?[14]
In the Old Testament
In the Old Testament the Hebrew word translated grace commonly is chen[15] and can mean "favour, grace, charm".
The word "grace" is often define as "unmerited favor". While the favor extended may not be merited it may be due to some change, choice or action taken by the individual receiving the "unmerited favor". Like the prodigal son who had done nothing for his father before forgiveness was granted but he had left his old life and began the process of returning with the true intent to serve and honor his father.
The first place we find grace mentioned in the Bible is with Noah in Genesis 6:8.
- "But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD."
Noah was not a perfect man, but he believed[16] in God, and God counted that faith as if it were righteousness[17] and extended grace to him so that he was saved when the world went through a catastrophic deluge.
But this belief or faith is not merely the result of Noah thinking a thought; it was the result of actions of faith taken by Noah. Throughout the Bible there are stories and parables of men receiving grace because they did something for others. Because of some act of kindness or favor or grace to others, grace is extended to them. This is not salvation by works, for the action alone is not payment; rather, it is evidence of true faith.
Grace is faith in action
Hebrew verbs were action words because action is required in nature. Faith is probity[18], not merely thinking a particular idea or even saying or professing a particular idea with your mouth. This is why Jesus is so adamant about the faithful being Doers of the Word and bearing the Fruit of repentance.
Modern Christians want to think they are saved by what they say or think, while they are still indulging in deeds of the Nicolaitan which God hates and doing contrary the things that Jesus says even though they say they love Him, and are doing contrary to The Way of Christ including engaging in Covetous Practices and being Workers of Iniquity
Finding grace in the sight of the "lord" did not always mean in the sight of God the Father, as we see in Genesis 47:25:
- "And they said, Thou hast saved our lives: let us find grace in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh’s servants."
Israel went into bondage, not because there was a famine but because they were ill prepared for a famine. They would have known the famine was coming if they had not thrown their brother in a pit and sold him into slavery. Have we sold our brothers into the bondage of Egypt?
True faith compels action
The people who receive the grace that Paul is talking about in Ephesians are no longer walking in the course of the world.[19]
The phrase "course of the world" was the way of the World of Rome and the Pharisees and their Corban which made the word of God to none effect and did not bear fruit which is why the Kingdom of God was taken from them[20] and appointed to the Apostles.[21]
They were under grace because they had repented and no longer walked in that way, choosing instead the way of Christ. They no longer coveted the benefits of Herod's Baptism or lusted after those benefits provided by force at the expense of their neighbor from Benefactors who exercised authority.[22]
The Modern Christians are walking more in the ways of Rome and Nimrod than in the ways of Christ and the early Church.
Where is your religion
- Where do you find the Daily ministration of the early Church, the Pure Religion of James and the Corban of Jesus?
- Are you following The Blessed Strategy of Christ like the Early Christians?
- Are you following The Way through Love of one another or the way of the world and the Fathers of the earth?
- Do you seek the benefits of bankrupt nations, or do you forgive and seek the benefits of Christ's appointed Kingdom?
- Do you only gather for the comfort it gives you, or do you gather to benefit others?
- Christ came to serve, not be served. Do you desire to be served, or are you coming in His name and according to His character to serve others?
If we desire His Grace but we only love those who love us, then there is no Grace because it is clear we do not really believe in Him.
If we do not Repent of our Covetous Practices and are not diligently gathering together in Free Assemblies of Love for all to provide for one another in Charity according to the Perfect law of liberty then we have nothing according to Paul. According to Luke 6:32 if we only love those who love us there is no "Grace". Christ also said if you do not Forgive neither will the Father forgive you.[24]
It is not enough to hate the deeds of the workers of iniquity, but we must return to Thy first love and thy first work. To break the yoke, we need to return to the ways of righteousness spoken of in Isaiah 58 which are the ways of Christ and the early Church. And His yoke is light for it is carried by our love of one another.
Abraham, Moses, John the Baptist and Christ all created Networks of charity to care for the true needy of society without force which is how they were able to help set people free. Do you gather with His Church to attend to the Weightier matters as Christ said?
- Are you gathering in a Network of righteousness?
- Do you come to love others or just be loved?
- Are your Congregations' gatherings fruitful enough so that no one has to pray to Benefactors who exercise authority one over the other?
- Does anyone in your Free Assemblies have to apply to the Fathers of the earth, or seek their many benefits?
Early Christians found themselves in conflict with these systems of social welfare because they made the word of God to none effect. Christians had repented of their covetous nature when they received the Baptism of Christ. They heard and became Doers of the word not hearers only.
Remember Proverbs 12:24, "The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the Slothful shall be under Tribute."
We know that liberty under God is not for the covetous who are Biting one another but it is also not for the slothful. If we are not congregating together in free assemblies bound together in a broad network by faith, hope, and charity alone according to the perfect law of liberty then we are not truly seeking the Kingdom of God nor His righteousness..
There is also the Hebrew word tᵉchinnah [25] which can mean "supplication, favour". It is created by adding the letter Tav to the beginning, which is usually associated with faith while chen is created by removing one of the Nun[26] letters.
Both chen and tᵉchinnah come from the Hebrew word chanan[27] which means "to be gracious, show favour, pity".
