- noun: apostasy; plural noun: apostasies
- the abandonment or renunciation of a religious or political belief.
Middle English: from ecclesiastical Latin apostasia, from a late Greek alteration of Greek apostasis ‘defection.’
"The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute."
The early Christian Church before it was corrupted and went into apostasy was a way to depend upon each other through a network of small intimate groups that operated by faith, hope and charity which is the Perfect law of liberty talked about by Paul.
They did not force their neighbors to contribute to their benefits as the socialist state of Rome were beginning to do but formed a free way to govern themselves and take care of their social welfare.
Christians knew that if they followed those covetous ways that "... their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.
This precept was repeated over and over but modern coreligionists are the blind led by the blind.
The do not listen to men like Paul in Romans 11:9 "And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:" Nor Peter 2 Peter 2:3 "And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not."
or Proverbs 23 "When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat."
They do not even keep the ten commandments Exodus 20:17 "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that [is] thy neighbour’s."
or seem to want eternal life or know and keep any law "What shall we say then? [Is] the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet." Romans 7:7

The following is from "There Be gods Many"
- Rome recognized Jesus as King and Jesus as king redeemed the people from their Roman involvement, if they would learn his ways. Jews and others who prescribed to the perfect law of liberty established by the government of servants appointed by Jesus became known in history as Christians while those who denounced Jesus as King and continued in apostasy were conquered and destroyed at the fall of Jerusalem. An exodus took place at the destruction of Jerusalem and during much of the persecution of the followers of Christ. These people who we call Christians were mostly Jews and Israelites as well as others who formed the political Kingdom of Jesus and therefore God on earth. His Kingdom was unique in history because it is not like the Kingdoms of the Gentiles or Nations. It is often over-looked because few know what the Kingdom of Heaven looks like. And there are factions that would not want you to truly understand God's Kingdom on earth and therefore they choose to keep it a “Mystery”.
- In Gibbon's Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire, he praised "the union and discipline of the Christian republic." He also pointed out that "it gradually formed an independent and increasing state in the heart of the Roman Empire."
