Colossians 1

1 ¶ Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother, 2 To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 ¶ We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, 4 Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints, 5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel; 6 Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth: 7 As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ; 8 Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit.

The Church in Colossae was situated in a small Phrygian city near Laodicea and approximately 100 miles (160 km) from Ephesus in Asia Minor.
Someone may have helped pen this epistle for Paul because of the liturgical hymnic style rather than the Stoic-diatribal or Jewish-scribal manner that we see in the 'major Pauline letters'. In Die Probleme der Kolosser- und Epheserbriefe Ernst Percy demonstrates that this style is present in other Epistles but is more dominant in Colossians and Ephesian due to the subject matter of Prayer and thanksgiving. The Epistle to the Colossians does have 48 words appearing in Colossians that are found nowhere else in his writings and 33 of which occur nowhere else in the New Testament. Paul was well schooled in complex eschatologies and theologies and would probably disappointed in the use of these styles and vocabulary to unmoore the doctrines of Jesus and sail away into the many distracting theologies and eschatologies that often compose many of the distractions of modern Church teachings.
Chapter 1 has the usual Greetings and comments about the fruit which was so important to Christ. The kingdom of God had been taken from the false Jews because they did not bear fruit and appointed to the "called out" disciples who became the early Church.
He continues to advocate the doctrines of Jesus first and was certainly not attempting to replace the teachings of Christ with the teachings or rhetoric of Paul as many in the Modern Church often do with new teachings like dispensationalism.
Being the Church was a job which provided services in the world to those who would sit down in the network of Tens commanded by Christ but their daily bread was not of the world of Rome.
Chapter 2 Speaks of a "faith in Christ" which should compel all to "walk" "stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught abounding therein with thanksgiving." A daily ministration through charity locally and throughout the Christian network of Tens was at the core of The Way of the early Church.
Verses 8–23 are said to be about "Freedom from Human Regulations through Life with Christ" yet the unusual rhetoric of Colossians is often used to justify modern Christian neglect of the Eucharist and the daily ministration of the early Church which made the Christian "walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God" and the source of the Christian conflict with Rome
Christ's death allowed His followers to separate from the rudiments of the world which also freed them from many of the ordinances of that world of Rome and its covetous practices.
When the Corban of Rofferedered their gifts, gratuities and benefits, its free bread, true followers of Christ would "Touch not; taste not; handle not" for they had their own system of welfare through charity.
In verse 18 " humility and worshipping" the word worshiping is the word normally translated religion and the word angel is also translated messenger and can mean "sent from God to execute his purposes".[2]
Paul continues to warn and plea that we reject the false teachings and covetous practices that have led many modern Christians back into the bondage of Egypt to again be entangled in the elements of the world.
In Chapter 5 Paul is not trying to set up "Rules" for living but trying to paint an unselfish picture of what a holy life in Christ should produce in every household.

What verses in the Bible express an idea of being wary of rulers offering free bread or benefits?
Proverbs 23, 2 Peter 2:15, Psalms 69:22, Romans 11:9, Revelation 2:6 and 2:15 concerning the doctrine of the Nicolaitan and all verses concerning coveting and covetous practices which makes you merchandise or benefactors who exercise authority or even the Fathers of the earth.
The kingdom of God was an Intentional Community that operated by faith, hope and charity which is love through the perfect law of liberty as another form of government according to the righteous doctrines of Jesus. Those who sought that kingdom of God had to repent of the covetous practices of the socialist governments of the world and return to the charitable practices of the early Church who continued daily with one accord in the temple, and dividing bread from house to house[3] in a righteous welfare of pure Religion.
Has modern Religion become the opiate of the people teaching the doctrines of men? The denominations of the Modern Church and modern Christians are entangled in the rudiments of the world, and have become subject to ordinances because of their wantonness for its benefits even though they were told to "Touch not; taste not; handle not; Which all are to perish with the using."

9 ¶ For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

12 ¶ Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; 20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. 21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled 22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: 23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister; 24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church: 25 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God; 26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: 27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: 28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: 29 Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.
