"Description:
Divided We Fall: A Conversation with David French
Biola University
Author David French and a panel of Biola leaders in an earnest and timely discussion of a contemporary crisis.
David French is an attorney, political commentator, and New York Times best-selling author. A graduate of Harvard Law School, he served as a lecturer at Cornell Law School and spent much of his career representing religious liberty cases as senior counsel for the American Center for Law and Justice and the Alliance Defending Freedom. He is the past president of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education and is a senior fellow at the National Review Institute. French is currently the senior editor of The Dispatch and a columnist for Time, having previously served as a staff writer for National Review. His latest book Divided We Fall: America's Secession Threat and How to Restore Our Nation.
This event was produced in partnership with the Winsome Conviction Project.
French talks about the "Law of Group Polarization" which produce "supper clusters" which define their "Overton Window" of acceptable discourse.
He ponders as to what has narrowed that window. The answer might be summed up with the phrase "the ideology of ideologues".
ideology, "a system of ideas and ideals, especially one which forms the basis of economic or political theory and policy."
ideologue is, "an adherent of an ideology, especially one who is uncompromising and dogmatic."
The distinction of the outcome of an ideology will hinge upon it's "elements".
The answer to two question may need to be explored: How small is the "l" in "small l-liberalism"?
And what are the "elements" of true "religious liberty and associational liberty" that will cultivate their success and prosperity?
A favorite quote of Washington.
Micah 4:4 But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make [them] afraid: for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken [it].
Without every man taking personal responsibility for themselves and their neighbor through the choice of charity they are not following the will of the Father. This must be done in the Micro first and not a top down social welfare through a common purse of rights.
The will of the fathers of the earth is that you sign up with them. Because the modern Church has been blinded by unsound doctrine they say it is okay to go to benefactors who exercise authority.[1]
"Justice and rights"
Do we need more authority in government to guarantee Justice and rights?
Do we need to rekindle more virtue in the citizenry?
1:20:20
Roll of pastors in guiding the Christians in their devotion within the church and there political life.
Supposed to be Salt and light but appear as the blind leading the blind who have already fallen into a pit of bondage.
David French asked will we compromise our morality to alley our selves with a leader.
He says character and policy is required for his vote but the truth is that he is the "blind" in both areas and easily manipulated by the media and suffering from the mass psychosis of modern Christianity.
1:33
While his vision is undermined by that psychosis he is right that it is far more important what we do on the local level than the presidential level.
Modern Christians have already not only allied themselves with FDR, LBJ, and others but contracted with them engaging in covetous practices.
- ↑ Not exercise authority
- Matthew 20:25 "But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you:..."
- Mark 10:42 "But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. But so shall it not be among you:..."
- Luke 22:25 "And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. But ye [shall] not [be] so:..."
