Metonymy

Hebrew contains idioms that are semantically motivated by conceptual metaphor forms or Metonymy which is the substitution of the name of an attribute or adjunct for that of the thing meant, for example suit for business executive, or the track for horse races.

Metonymy is a figure of speech in which something is referred to by the name of something closely associated with it.

For example, “The White House announced…” uses the White House to mean the U.S. president or administration.

A metaphor or Metonymy are symbols that act as something representing ideas and concepts.

Knowing these unique representative symbols in the sacred texts and their meanings and what these forms of expression represent are often essential in the process of understanding the meaning of the authors of the text and the spirit by which the were written.

While we can study to get a better understanding of words as they were intendeď the key to understanding inspired scripture is to be inspired by the same spirit that wrote when we seek to read the text.

Those tactics and ideas that block the light of that spirit blind the seeker so that in their seeing they do not see.[1]
