Logocracy

Logocracy is a system of government or social organization where words hold the ultimate ruling power. Derived from the Greek logos ("word," "speech," or "reason") and kratos ("rule"), the term can be applied positively, negatively, or ironically depending on the political context.

In some modern theoretical discussions, the term is occasionally repurposed to mean the rule of reason or logic (relying on the original definition of logos rather than the Greek word Rhema).

Laic logocracy

But in some Islamic studies scholar like Belgium Islamicist Yahya Michot described Sunni Islam as a "Laic logocracy" (sometimes called a "popular logocracy")," meaning a community governed fundamentally by the literal, sacred Word of the Koran rather than a centralized human priesthood. This would depend upon the Koran and the interpretation of men as to its true meaning. Of course, assuming that the Koran is the inerrant word of God and Sunni people (85% of Moslems, 1.7 billion) agree as to the true interpretation, which is already a departure from "Right Reason".

Ruled by Reason

In the context of the "rule of Right Reason", logocracy would describe an idealized meritocracy where political decisions are guided strictly by verified facts, rational debate, and institutional truth over emotional politics, religious, or ideological bias devoid of any Ideological subversion.

But again the outcome would depend upon that right reason of those who honestly, without emotion, determine what is "fact, rational, and the truth" devoid of emotional bias which creates a cognitive bias and therefore cognitive dissonance when confronted with the actual truth.

Key elements

The key elements of his logocracy might include:

  • The Rule of Scientific Truth: The system rejects rigid, unnatural political ideologies ("extrinsic doctrines"). Instead, statecraft is guided by empirical, psychological, and sociological facts about how humans actually function.
Recently the mantra of "follow the science seems to have led to a mass psychosis
  • The "Council of Wise Men": A core institutional feature of his logocracy is a meritocratic council or objective body of experts. Their primary function is to scientifically and psychologically screen potential political leaders to ensure individuals with severe, empathy-lacking personality disorders (like psychopathy) cannot gain power.
  • One of the first question is how to determine a "merit of wisdom".
  • Obviously a college degree does not determine merit nor morality.
  • Getting elected by itself proves neither as well,
  • Since voters are often bias, emotional, and without much wisdom.
  • Influenced by Media Madness.
  • Elderly men have often been chosen not merely because of maturity but history of wise activities.
  • A Evolution of Law: Rather than a purely punitive legal system, a logocracy relies on laws structured around understanding human behavior and the genesis of societal evil, aiming for systemic defense rather than simple retribution.
  • Should law punish or protect?
  • What effect human behavior?

An Early Logocracy

Moses was setting up his own Logocracy and needed his own "Council of Wise Men" which was called the Sanhedrin.[1]

Did they have power?[2]

How were they chosen by the people, their merit and wisdom determined?
