Pray
The word to pray is defined as an "address a solemn request or expression of thanks to a deity or other object of worship." As an adverb it may be defined or "used as a preface to polite requests or instructions."
In the Bible we see the word used many times but translated from many different words.
Basically a prayer is an application for help from God or gods. Their are gods many according to Paul. We are to pary to our Father in Heaven and not the Fathers of the earth. We certainly should not be praying to the governments of the world for their benefits because they are Benefactors who exercise authority one over the other.
Such Covetous Practices would make Merchandise of us and curse our children with debt.
- Another word parakaleo [3] appears over a hundred times [4] but only 6 times as pray but 43 times as beseech and also as desire.
So just the desire or application for the possibility of benefits is a form of prayer.
We see the same thing in a less used word of deomai [5] and erotao [6] appearing some 58 times in the Bible. [7]
Other words like euchomai [8] appearing only 7 times [9] denotes prayer as just wishing for something.

Ephesians 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech <3870> you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, Ephesians 6:22 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort <3870> your hearts. Philippians 4:2 I beseech <3870> Euodias, and beseech <3870> Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord. Colossians 2:2 That their hearts might be comforted <3870>, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; Colossians 4:8 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate, and comfort <3870> your hearts; 1 Thessalonians 2:11 As ye know how we exhorted <3870> and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children, 1 Thessalonians 3:2 And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort <3870> you concerning your faith: 1 Thessalonians 3:7 Therefore, brethren, we were comforted <3870> over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith: 1 Thessalonians 4:1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort <3870> you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more. 1 Thessalonians 4:10 And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech <3870> you, brethren, that ye increase more and more; 1 Thessalonians 4:18 Wherefore comfort <3870> one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 Wherefore comfort <3870> yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. 1 Thessalonians 5:14 Now we exhort <3870> you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. 2 Thessalonians 2:17 Comfort <3870> your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work. 2 Thessalonians 3:12 Now them that are such we command and exhort <3870> by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. 1 Timothy 1:3 As I besought <3870> thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, 1 Timothy 2:1 I exhort <3870> therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 1 Timothy 5:1 Rebuke not an elder, but intreat <3870> him as a father; and the younger men as brethren; 1 Timothy 6:2 And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort <3870>. 2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort <3870> with all longsuffering and doctrine. Titus 1:9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort <3870> and to convince the gainsayers. Titus 2:6 Young men likewise exhort <3870> to be sober minded. Titus 2:15 These things speak, and exhort <3870>, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee. Philemon 1:9 Yet for love’s sake I <3870> rather beseech <3870> thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ. Philemon 1:10 I beseech <3870> thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds: Hebrews 3:13 But exhort <3870> one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting <3870> one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Hebrews 13:19 But I beseech <3870> you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner. Hebrews 13:22 And I beseech <3870> you, brethren, suffer the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words. 1 Peter 2:11 Dearly beloved, I beseech <3870> you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; 1 Peter 5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort <3870>, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 1 Peter 5:12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting <3870>, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand. Jude 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort <3870> you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
