A definition of the word Abomination could be "a thing that causes disgust or hatred."

Samuel Johnson agreed with that definition but also included his third and forth definition as "Pollution, defilement" and "The cause of pollution".

In the Bible we see a Hebrew word translated abomination is tow‘ebah[1] appearing over a hundred times.[2]

It was derived from the three letter root word ta‘ab[3]

Another word containing similar letters is ta‘ah[4]

Also the word sheqets [5] and shiqquwts [6] translated abomination. They are from the verb shaqats [7]meaning to detest.

There is another very different word that is also translated abomination which is piggul[8] from an unused root meaning to stink. There is another word for stink which also produces the a word translated abomination, which is ba’ash.[9]

In the New Testament there is only the word bdelugma[10] which is consistently translated abomination ll of only 6 times.[11] It is from bdelusso [12] Thee are both derivative of the Greek word bdeo to stink.
