Ephesians 6

Comments
: I do not know any better advise than Ephesians 6: but I also do not know many people who know what this means. When does the evil start being evil?
: * “The civil law reduces the unwilling freedman to his original slavery; but the laws of the Angloes judge once manumitted as ever after free.” Bouvier's, 4 Coke,71.
: If you covet your neighbor's goods you violate the commandments of God and Jesus said if you want Eternal life you should not be doing that.
God gave man rights. He does not want man to be in bondage but to have free-dominion. Man keeps losing his freedom because he is slothful in the ways of God and covetous of his neighbor's good. Repentance is the reverse of that.
If you want to have the Holy Spirit's protections and blessings there for you then you must be doer of the word... sacrificing and praying and caring daily for others so that they may be secure in the knowledge of the truth so that they may be Doers of the Word.
In verse 12 "we wrestle ... against powers". The word powers is the Greek word exousia that means the "power of choice, liberty of doing as one pleases".[1] While the word ruler is the Greek word for Lord of the world e.g. lord of the "government". The word "darkness" is a metaphor for something "of ignorance respecting divine things and human duties, and the accompanying ungodliness and immorality," The word translated world means a period of time.
Paul continue with a list of things that would make us doers of the word.
Many people who claim to be Christians are actually still choosing to be workers of iniquity.
Men often choose covetous practices over charitable practices. Or they choose to be slothful rather than diligent and end up under tribute.
Proverbs 12:24 "The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute."
We are in a war against our own high-mindedness and vanity. We are often quick to blame others for our own wantonness.
Many modern Christians are in need of repentance.

Chapter 6

Children honor Parents

1 ¶ Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honour[2] thy father and mother;[3] (which is the first commandment with promise;) 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. 4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Bondservants and Masters

5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; 6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;[4] 7 With good will[5] doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: 8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. 9 And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.

Full armor of God

10 ¶ Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might[6]. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle[7] not against flesh and blood, but against principalities[8] , against powers[1], against the rulers[9] of the darkness [blindness] of this world [age], against spiritual wickedness[10] in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

finalclosing

19 ¶ And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. 21 But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things: 22 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts. 23 Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen. <<To the Ephesians written from Rome, by Tychicus.>>
