Midwife

Exodus 1:16 And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see [them] upon the stools; if it [be] a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it [be] a daughter, then she shall live.

The word "do the office of a midwife" is translated from yalad consisting of three letters YodLamedDealeth, which appears more than 500 times in the Bible but only translated midwife 10 times. It is commonly translated beget and according to Hebrew conjugation of Hithpael can mean "to declare one’s birth (pedigree)".[1]

The word we see translated stool appears twice in the Bible and is also translated wheel which is oben composed of the letters AlefBeitNun[2] which comes from the word meaning stone or stones.[3] Which is from the word BeitNunHey which means to build, set up or establish.[4]

17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.

18 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive? 19 And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them. 20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.

In verses 17 and 18 we see the words saved and alive. Both are from the single word ChetYodHey[5] which can be compared to ChetVavHey meaning "to tell, declare, show, make known."[6]

Eventually Pharaoh charged[7] that the male children are thrown into the river. How this "charge" was enforced nor can we be sure the form of its implantation or the motivation that allowed such a thing to take place. We fill in the gaps of our understanding with our own imaginations.

There is no doubt historically that abortions and infanticide were taking place at this time in history but once we understand that the tremendous leeway has been given to translators for interpretation by translating so many words in such a wide variety of ways we may be encouraged to take a deeper look at the text.

Nimrod had subdued an entire nation under his authority and laws. This is done with records and chains of command but human nature still plays a working influence over society. we should guard our thinking from a B'movie view of history.

Comprehending the metaphors of the Hebrew language and meanings of the Hebrew letters may allow us to make a more complete study of the sophistry that led the Pharisees astray.
