Judges 18:9 And they said, Arise, that we may go up against them: for we have seen the land, and, behold, it is very good: and are ye still? be not slothful(לצע AyinZtadikLamed)[1] to go, and to enter to possess the land.

The same three letters as a noun with the letter Hey added הלצע AYIN TZADIK LAMED HEI[2] is found in
Proverbs 19:15 Slothfulness <06103> casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.
Ecclesiastes 10:18 By much slothfulness <06103> the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.
AYIN TZADIK LAMED HEI
  • ע AYIN Divine Providence Eye or Well of five states of kindness or severity. [eye, watch]
  • ץ TZADIK The Faith of the Righteous One the foundation of the world "to hunt." [Harvest pant desire]
  • ל LAMED Aspiration of the Heart to learn or direct like a shepherd [Hand prod, staff, whip... tongue]
  • ה HEI Expression--Thought, Speech, Action. Manifest seeds of thought and life.[jubilation window, fence]
We find the same word with a TAV, the mark of God and the letter for faith, instead of the HEI in Proverbs:
Proverbs 31:27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
Strong's number 06104 תולצע ‘atsluwth \@ats-looth’\@ also from 06101; n f; appearing just this once as idleness 1 defined as sluggishness, laziness.

The first two letters ץע ‘ets form the word for tree or wood and timber[3]

If you take the same first two letters which is said to mean tree or wood, which are also the letters for AYIN Divine Providence and ץ TZADIK The Faith of the Righteous One, but add a MEM, the Fountain, instead of a LAMED you get the word םצע ‘atsam which appears as increased 4 times, mighty 4,  … strong 4, more 2, broken his bones, closed, great, mightier, shutteth, stronger once each. Defined as "to be vast, be numerous, be mighty" but also "to shut (the eyes), close (the eyes)". As a noun םצע ‘etsem is translated bone 104, but selfsame 11 times, same 5, body 2, very 2, life 1, strength 1. It is defined "bone, essence, substance".[4] and with the letter HEI it becomes might, strong, substance, power, strength.

There is another word we see for slothful which is הימר rᵉmiyah which consists of the letters Reish Mem Yod Hei and first appears in:

Job 13:7 Will ye speak wickedly for God? and talk deceitfully <remiyah>[5] for him?
Reish Mem Yod Hei are much different letters than Ayin Tzadik Lamed Hei
  • ר REISH Process of Clarification The "head" or "beginning." [Head... Person head highest]
  • ם MEM Fountain of water a fountain of the Divine Wisdom [massive, overpower chaos]
  • י YUD The Infinite Point of essential good hidden in the tet. [closed hand... Deed work to make]
  • ה HEI Expression--Thought, Speech, Action. Manifest seeds of thought and life.[jubilation window, fence]

It also appears in other verses of Job and in Psalms and Proverbs as well as Jeremiah, Hosea, and Micah.

Job 27:4 My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit <remiyah>.
Psalms 32:2 Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile <remiyah>.
Psalms 52:2 Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully <remiyah>.
Psalms 78:57 But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful <remiyah> bow.
Psalms 101:7 He that worketh deceit <remiyah> shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.
Psalms 120:2 Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful <remiyah> tongue.
Psalms 120:3 What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false <remiyah> tongue?

Proverbs 10:4 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack <remiyah> hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

Proverbs 12:24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful <remiyah> shall be under tribute.
Proverbs 12:27 The slothful <remiyah> man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.
Proverbs 19:15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle <remiyah> soul shall suffer hunger.
Jeremiah 48:10 Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully <remiyah>, and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood.
Hosea 7:16 They return, but not to the most High: they are like a deceitful <remiyah> bow: their princes shall fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue: this shall be their derision in the land of Egypt.
Micah 6:12 For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful <remiyah> in their mouth.

If we go back to the letters and word לצע atsal(AyinZtadikLamed) which appeared in Judges 18:9 we can see the adjective AyinZtadikLamed[6] with the same letters in only in Proverbs:

Proverbs 6:6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard <06102>; consider her ways, and be wise:
Proverbs 6:9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard <06102>? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
Proverbs 10:26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard <06102> to them that send him.
Proverbs 13:4 The soul of the sluggard <06102> desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
Proverbs 15:19 The way of the slothfulman is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.
Proverbs 19:24 A slothful <06102> man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
Proverbs 20:4 The sluggard <06102> will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.
Proverbs 21:25 The desire of the slothful <06102> killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.
Proverbs 22:13 The slothful <06102> man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.
Proverbs 24:30 I went by the field of the slothful <06102>, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
Proverbs 26:13 The slothful <06102> man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.
Proverbs 26:14 As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful <06102> upon his bed.
Proverbs 26:15 The slothful <06102> hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.
Proverbs 26:16 The sluggard <06102> is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

In Proverbs we also see the word ReishPeiHei[7] Proverbs 18:9 He also that is slothful<raphah> in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

  • ר REISH Process of Clarification The "head" or "beginning." [Head... Person head highest]
  • ף פ PEI Communication: The Oral Torah The mouth, blow, edge . [Mouth speak open word]
  • ה HEI Expression--Thought, Speech, Action. Manifest seeds of thought and life.[jubilation window, fence]

While the word can certainly include the idea of slothful in context it normally is translated feeble, fail, weaken, with a definition of "to sink, relax, sink down, let drop, be disheartened".

In the New Testament we find the Greek word ὀκνηρός (okneros)[8] in:

Matthew 25:26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful<okneros> servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:
Romans 12:11 Not slothful<okneros> in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;
Philippians 3:1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed [is] not grievous<okneros>, but for you [it is] safe.

The Greek word is from oknos meaning delay

There is also the Greek νωθρός nothros[9] from the word νόθος nothos meaning illegitimate or bastard[10]

Hebrews 6:12 That ye be not slothful (nothros), but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
Hebrews 5:11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull (nothros) of hearing.
