The Law is spiritual.

After my article on James 4:4 and adultery

Someone commented that the Law is spiritual. Somone asked them to expound on what the meant before I could.

But no one expounded on this reference to Romans 7:14 " For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin."

If we go onto Romans 7:25 we see "I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin."

We see Paul gettin to the point in what is labeled as the next chapter Romans 8:1 "[There is] therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."

So what Paul was saying is that if you are violating the law of God then you are living of the flesh and not of the spirit and are in need of repentance. And if you have not repented and show the works of the flesh your faith is dead as James also says and you are not really saved because your acceptance of Christ is a lie.

Many people like to say they believe in Christ and in their mind the matter is settled. But do they believe in the real Christ?

  • Mark 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if [it were] possible, even the elect.

There are many opinions about Christ but there is only one true Christ. How does one know if they believe in the real Christ or one of the many images of Christ created by different religions or denominations?

Is it not by the fruit of the spirit? If you really love the real Christ wouldn't you be keeping His commandments?

The flesh is not sinful in itself. The sin is in following the flesh rather than the spirit of the law.

What is the Spirit of the law?

The law is love.

  • Romans 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
  • Romans 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
  • Galatians 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
  • James 2:8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

Do we follow the law of love or the desires of our own wantonness and sloth?

I know many people who say they love Jesus but they make a habit and a policy to bite one another to satisfy their own desires. They pray to men who call themselves benefactors but only give what they take from our neighbors. To do that is to work ill upon your neighbor, not love. So if we continue in that way which is contrary to the way of Christ and the words of Christ can we say God is doing a work in us or are we actually workers of iniquity that will be cast away?

The instructions are to repent and to seek the kingdom or government of God and the righteousness of God. Seeking that righteousness will requre sacrificing some of your life, your sweat, even your blood for love of others which brings growth.[1] But if we have not repented and are not seeking the Kingdom of God and His righteousness then what growth should we expect? So have modern Christians actually repented?

Are they seeking the Kingdom of God and His righteousness?

Most Churches today do not do what the early Church did. They certainly do not do what John the Baptist said to do nor what Jesus said to do. In fact they do more things like the Pharisees. Early Christians would not take benefits from men who exercised authority like Caesar.

To desire those benefits would be coveting their neighbor's goods. The first century Church gathered to be of assistance to others seeking to live without coveting their neighbor's goods. Every week they came to give if they could and if they needed aid.they hoped people would help them. In the early church "service" was actually service. In a real Church established by Christ those that had extra shared with those who did not have enough. This was the Eucharist of Christ.

It was a "righteous welfare" that showed love for one another. Today, most church services are really of no service to anyone unless you count "tickling the ears" of the people. People today go to church to feel good. They pretend to "worship" God and Jesus with their mouth but since they have not repented and do not want to do what it requires to provide a righteous welfare for one another their sin remains.
