Homosexuality

The issue of homosexuality is a volatile and emotional issue that should be approached with patience and love, compassion and a true desire to understand and aid all who come to examine the condition. If anger, impatience, fear or guilt are stirred in the reader they will not be able to hear objectively.

Psychology was one of the first to study homosexuality as a discrete phenomenon. The previous view of homosexuality <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality> in terms of pathological models was that it was a disorder of the mind or even a mental illness. Today behavioral and social sciences has begun to oppose the classification of homosexuality as a mental disorder.

"The American Psychological Association Task Force on Appropriate Therapeutic Responses to Sexual Orientation conducted a systematic review of the peer-reviewed journal literature on sexual orientation change efforts (SOCE) and concluded that efforts to change sexual orientation are unlikely to be successful and involve some risk of harm, contrary to the claims of SOCE practitioners and advocates. Even though the research and clinical literature demonstrate that same-sex sexual and romantic attractions, feelings, and behaviors are normal and positive variations of human sexuality, regardless of sexual orientation identity, the task force concluded that the population that undergoes SOCE tends to have strongly conservative religious views that lead them to seek to change their sexual orientation. Thus, the appropriate application of affirmative therapeutic interventions for those who seek SOCE involves therapist acceptance, support, and understanding of clients and the facilitation of clients’ active coping, social support, and identity exploration and development, without imposing a specific sexual orientation identity outcome."

The research and clinical literature suggesting that same-sex sexual "behaviors are normal and positive variations of human sexuality" is patently absurd from the point of view of biology and the reproduction of society because they are not fruitful behaviors. Ultimately they are centered in self gratification and mere dominance and self.

The American Psychiatric Association has condemned "psychiatric treatment, such as reparative or conversion therapy which is based upon the assumption that homosexuality per se is a mental disorder or based upon the a priori assumption that the patient should change his/her sexual homosexual orientation."

While it may be true that SOCE may be ineffectual and in some cases harmful the problem is not with the conclusion that homosexuality is against the natural biological use of our given sexuality but with the methods and motivation of the SOCE (“sexual orientation change efforts”) practitioners. While it may be true that "strongly conservative religious views that lead them to seek to change their sexual orientation" are often motivating and driving the process, the truth is that the religious orientation of the practitioner is already become a victim of the changing definition of Religion.

The changing of theDiagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) has become a practice that has led to an increase in the number of people who are considered to be mentally ill whil removing the label :disorder" from those who clearly have a confusion about their biological identity which their mental and emotional state cannot support or coexist with.

" In September 2012, the California legislature passed Senate Bill 1172 (SB 1172), which prohibits licensed psychotherapists from engaging in “sexual orientation change efforts” (SOCE) with minor patients. This unprecedented statute aims to prevent any mental health professional from using techniques—commonly known as “conversion therapy” or “reparative therapy”—that attempt to eliminate homosexual attraction or foster heterosexual attraction when treating a minor patient.<Rev>S.B. 1172, 2011-12 S., Reg. Sess. (Cal. 2012) (codified at Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code § 865-865.2 (West 2013)).</Ref>

While this treatment of minor patient view is outlawed parents have been praised for ordering hormone therapy and irreversible sex changes for minors.

A mental disorder, also called a mental illness or psychiatric disorder, is a mental or behavioral pattern or anomaly that causes either suffering or an impaired ability to function in ordinary life (disability), and which is not a developmental or social norm. The fact that a male thinks he is attracted sexually to other males keeps him from a normal life if a normal life in society includes the reproduction of society. Throughout nature and even according to evolutionists procreation is a natural and fundamental part of the natural order of society. Homosexual behavior impairs the ability to function in ordinary life as nature intends.

Religious hatred and social stigmas often compound the nature of the problem or disorder bringing an element of emotional distress and therefore suffering.

Numerous studies of twins in different countries give no support that homosexuality is genetic and if it were and the evolutionist is correct any gay gene if it did exist would soon be weeded out of the genetic pool of society. SOCE practitioners seeks to change the mental state and emotional addiction of the homosexual with limited success because homosexuality is a symptom not the problem.

While we see homosexual behavior condemned in the Old Testament understanding the problem will take a lot more than mere hate speech and accusations. Most of the people who like to point the abomination finger at homosexuals have similar confusions or disorders about the meaning of Religion and the Gospel of the kingdom.

The homosexual may not be able to simply change themselves. In some cases changing a person physically might be easier than changing their mental sexuality through psychological means. But neither actually addresses the cause of the sexual confusion or physical/emotional dialectical dichotomy.

Paul seems to support the idea that the homosexual cannot change himself. In Romans 1 he emphasizes in verses 26 and 28 that the homosexual is given over to his present mental state. His or her obsession with the same sex is caused by other things and is not a choice. So the homosexual is right to say that he or she cannot change themselves. It is not merely a mental choice.

We will need to look deeply into our own hearts to find peace and resolution concerning these issues.
