You can't afford a ford any more?

On this day in history in 1908 Henry Ford introduced the Model T automobile. It cost $825.

"It is generally regarded as the first affordable automobile, the car that opened travel to the common middle-class American; some of this was because of Ford's efficient fabrication, including assembly line production instead of individual hand crafting." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Model_T By 1914, an assembly line worker could buy a Model T with four months' pay.

Could you buy a new car with a few months pay?

We have lots of stuff today but what do we get for our labor? What are you worth?

The same silver dollars used to buy that car were worth almost $29000.00 dollars in 2012 yet people were buying the car with cash.

As of at least the year 2012 the relative worth of $825.00 from 1908 is depending on how you calculate it:
It could be about

  • $44,200.00 using the value of consumer bundle or
  • $89,500.00 using the unskilled wage or
  • $137,000.00 using the Production Worker Compensation or
  • $124,000.00 using the nominal GDP per capita or even
  • $441,000.00 using the relative share of GDP [1]

According to some the average salary in 1908 was $600 a year. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_was_the_average_salary_in_1908

Accordingly In 2012, the relative worth of $600.00 from 1908 is

  • $65,100.00 using the unskilled wage or
  • $99,900.00 using the Production Worker Compensation or
  • $320,000.00 using the relative share of GDP .

So you have a lot of shiny things but you make less and the average household debt shows that you are going farther into debt. Governments won't change until people change.

Get out of debt.

Develop a different economy based on something of real value.

What is real value?

People.

You need to value others as much as your self, your comfort and especially more than your stuff.

Christ valued you more than his own life.

How much do you value your neighbor.

The problem today is not politics, the economy, the courts, etc. The problem today is selfishness. It is the selfishness of the people that has robbed them of their freedom. If you want to Repent of this selfishness you must seek to selflessness.

Seek people who care about each other as much as they care about themselves.

Seek people who are willing to sacrifice their standard of comfort for a standard of living based on the principles of Christ which is righteousness.

Learn to care for others.

Gather together to practice "Pure religion".
