Spirit

The modern definition it is said that spirit' includes:

  1. "the nonphysical part of a person that is the seat of emotions and character; the soul."
  2. "those qualities regarded as forming the definitive or typical elements in the character of a person, nation, or group or in the thought and attitudes of a particular period."

The word Spirit appears many times in the Bible. In Hebrew we see the word ruwach[1] which is also translated wind, breath, side, mind, blast, vain, air, and anger, cool, courage, etc.

Breath comes out of your mouth as you speak and manifests that spirit that dwells within in words.

In Genesis 1[2] we are told that "the earth was without form, and void" and it was "the Spirit of God" that "moved upon the face of the waters".

This breath of God also was apart of the formation of man as a living soul with a spirit of his own.[3]

Jesus would also breath on the Apostles so that they could receive that same Spirit of God or what is called the Holy Spirit.[4]

It is this same Spirit of God that is the source of revelation about the Law of Nature and the Will of God and make us anew man.[5]

In the Greek of the New Testament we see the word pneuma[6] translated Spirit or Ghost as in the phrase the Holy Ghost. It can refer to the Spirit of God, Spirit of truth, or a human spirit, or even an evil spirit.

Being born again is being born of the Spirit and not just of the flesh.[7] We as creatures of flesh cannot conjure up that Spirit with words and rituals but it is independent of what we do or say.[8]

While our words clearly cannot save us and Jesus emphasizes our doing the will of the Father in Heaven and forgiveness is clearly a part of opening our hearts to His redemption.

If we say we believe in the Lord and do what He says to do and not do what He condemns then our spirit, our breath, our character is one with His Holy Spirit.

If you are truly seeking the Kingdom of God then what you say and do should be conforming to the righteousness of God. If we keep the commandments of God the Father then our spirit is set apart, or said to be holy, our character or nature is upright, virtuous and honorable.

We are walking in the name of the Messiah, the Holy Spirit of Christ, or The Way of Jesus, etc. is walking in the righteousness of truth. The Truth and the Spirit of God are one.[9]

By the fruits you will know them.
