Jesus and John the Baptist opposed the leaven of the Pharisees because they misinterpreted the way of Moses and the LORD. They collected the resources for their tables of welfare to provide the free bread of their Corban which was their social safety net through forced offerings. Herod and the Pharisees had set up a system of legal charity rather than fervent charity which always makes the word of God to none effect and degenerates the masses until they become perfect savages. And because legal charity and its dainties provided through men who exercise authority is a covetous practice it makes men merchandise it will curse children.

Mark 8:15 "And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and [of] the leaven of Herod."
Luke 12:1 "In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy."
